From the Principals Desk

Welcome back to Term 4. I hope everyone had a safe and restful holiday in preparation for a busy term ahead. Enrolments for 2018 Our enrolments for 2018 are marginally higher than 2017 and we will continue with 11 classes next year. Please fill out the attached form if you are moving out of the area or if you will be late returning next year. The students return on Tuesday 30 January 2018. Kindergarten Orientation Our first Kindergarten Orientation takes place on Tuesday 31 October. A note will be coming home asking our Kindergarten parents to assist with morning tea for the new parents and students. Parents will be meeting in the library while the students will be participating in fun activities in the classroom. There will be two more orientation sessions on Wednesday 8 November and Thursday 16 November. On Wednesday 8 November, there will be a presentation on Healthy Lunches, Speech, Occupational Therapy and Behavioural Optometrist. The final session is where the parents drop their children at school at 9.00am and return to collect them after recess at 11.20am. They will spend recess with their buddy in the playground. Book Parade Thank you to all the staff, students and community members who participated and shared our Book Week Parade on Wednesday 20 September. There were many awesome costumes and ideas paraded on the day and a lot of fun was had by all. Some images have been included in this newsletter and can now be viewed on the website. Telstra Community Grant Competition Congratulations Seven Hills North, we received the highest number of votes in the Telstra Community Grants program at the Seven Hills Telstra Store and we won $1000 for the school. Thank you to all our community members who called in and voted. The money will be used to help resource the school. Decorate a Tree and Win $1000 for Your School This term Telstra Store Seven Hills are running another competition. The store will supply a Christmas tree and the students will make decorations at home and at school to decorate our tree. A photo will be taken of our decorated tree and then community members are asked to vote for their favourite tree. The tree will also be set up as a giving tree where students, staff and community members can donate a gift wrapped in Christmas paper with a tag indicating age and gender that the gift is appropriate for. These gifts will be delivered to a charity prior to Christmas. Woolworths Earn and Learn A big thank you to all our families we were able to submit approximately 27000 points in Earn and Learn stickers to Woolworths at the end of term. We will be using these points to replace and purchase new Maths resources.

Working Bee (URGENT) The date of the working bee has been changed from Sunday 15 October to Sunday 22 October. We need to dig up the garden near the entrance in preparation for planting. Please bring picks, shovels and wheelbarrow if possible. Mr Turrisi, one of our fantastic dads is a landscape gardener and he will be overseeing the process including suppling some equipment to help.

Spelling Bee At the end of last term four of SHNP’s top spellers represented our school at the Regional Finals of the 2017 Premier’s Spelling Bee held at Jasper Road Public School.

Congratulations to Atilla (Year 3) and Dhruv (Year 4) along with Eamon and Jamie (Year 6) for their outstanding performances in the competition.

Thank you to each and every student who participated in our school spelling bee, the selection process was very competitive.

To assists with planning staffing, accommodation and other resources for next year, we would ask that if you have a child who is due to start Kindergarten in 2018 or know of someone who is in area and has a child due to start Kindergarten please make sure to get your enrolment forms in as soon as possible.

Alternatively if you know that you will not be returning next year or that you will not be starting till later in the year because of a family holiday please complete the following forms and return them to the school office.

LIBRARY GOSSIP

Welcome back everyone.

Who can believe it is term 4 already? Almost a year of being in

kindy and the last term for year 6.

I would like to thank everyone who attended our Book Parade

on the last Wednesday of term. I hope you had as much fun as

I did. There were some very creative costume ideas that had a

lot of thought, care and time put

into them. Thank you for getting

in to the spirit of the day. We had

some amazing costumes and

great music to parade to, with a

wonderful book painted by our

very talented Ms Ricketts.
