From the Principal’s Desk It was wonderful to see so many of our Dads and Father figures at our Father’s Day breakfast last Friday. Over 330 breakfasts were made by our industrious P&C. Thank you to the Dad’s who helped out with cooking the bacon and eggs so early in the morning. To those who contributed their time getting to school at 6am in the morning, while it was still dark, thank you for enabling our breakfast to be cooked in time for a 7:30am start. We had a variety of events before our assembly including a presentation by the choir, classroom visits and of course access to the coffee van. We are in the process of developing our 2019 classroom structure. If you are aware that you will be moving and as a result your child will not be returning to Burrendah PS next year, please inform Reception either via email or if you prefer come in and see the School Officers in person. Our National School Opinion Survey for parents stands at 97 completed and 83 started. We are keen to have feedback from families and I encourage every parent to complete the survey. This information will help in the development of our planning for next year. The parent survey closes at the end of this term. hps://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/f5bssyFY Thank you to all of the families who took the time and effort to support our recent Book Week parade. Hundreds of students joined the staff in dressing up as their favourite book character. It is also terrific to see the number of families who are visiting classrooms to see our Maths lessons during our Literacy and Numeracy Week. I recently attended a ceremony where I was presented with the recognition of becoming a ‘Fellow’ by Minister Sue Ellery. This program involves an extensive body of learning, mentoring and development. It includes two intensive Harvard University Graduate School of Education courses, one delivered in Boston, Massachusetts and one online. Principals participate in executive mentoring and active engagement in an area of system improvement. Science News

Students have been busy conducting investigations in the Science Lab related to the Chemical Sciences. Year 3s have been investigating the effect of heat on difference materials and discovered when you mix certain materials and heat them they can be very tasty.

Year 2 students also discovered some delicious changes when mixing liquids and solids together.

Our Year 4 students are experts on selecting appropriate materials for packaging. They were excited to receive their biscuit packages back through the post and realised they had made excellent choices when selecting materials that were light weight and protective. Some materials were so protective that biscuits didn’t even break when a heavy object was dropped on them in a different investigation. Other materials were tested to see if they would soak, leak or repel water in an activity that provided opportunity for students to use their ability to design and conduct a “fair” test.

Some of our senior students discovered that chemical reactions can provide power that allows a boat to travel across the water while also observing Newton’s third law of motion.

Notizie Italiane

In Italian Class Year 3 students have been doing activities around La Festa Del Papa (Father’s Day).

Year 5 classes have started doing their posters on what you can see from a hot air balloon when flying over Italy.

Year 4 - Room 10 students being supported in Italian class by Year 11 students from Willetton Senior High School.

Buon Viaggio - Tips for travelling to Italy. - The south and north of Italy are very different; with the north being more industrial and the south more agricultural. - Summer in Italy can be very hot and winters very cold especially in the north. - Water is safe to drink and it’s worth carrying a water bottle to avoid purchasing expensive bottles of water.

School Banking The school banking program has been running for almost a year now and has 70 students registered. Students bank deposits at school on a Wednesday morning to earn small rewards via the school banking program. Our cur-rent coordinator has taken up employment and is looking to pass the position on to a new volunteer or two. The coordinator's position is very straight forward - involving an hour on a Wednesday morning between 8-9am (would be quicker if there was a helper) to process deposits and a trip to the bank to deposit the money collected in the bag drop within the branch. Training will be provided and there is support from the bank's school banking program repre-sentative. The school banking program is a form of fund-raising for the school and it would be a shame to lose the program. We hope you will consider assisting - please feel free to visit Sonia at the school canteen on a Wednesday morning to ask about the coordinator's position or contact the P&C to offer your support. Regards, P&C President
