From the principal’s desk:
This week we welcome a visit
from Konosu High School from
Japan. We have previously
welcomed students from the
junior high schools of Konosu
but this is the first time we have
hosted the senior students.
Thank you to our students who
will be their buddies during
their visit.
Thank you to the 60 parents
and some students who came
to the working bee on
Saturday. Special thanks to
Wayne Humphreys and Mike
Chen for their co-ordination of
the tasks. We now have seats
along the bus bay, picnic
tables painted grey and
plants in the ground. Lots of
mulch was also moved and
distributed. Huge thanks to
Bunnings who donated paint,
drop sheets, paint brushes
and gardening supplies.
This is Spirit Week so students
have lots of activities planned
to celebrate the spirit of
Baulko. There will be face
painting, a baking
competition, a staff versus
students’ futsal match and

Procedure for Sick Students
Students who are sick in class should see a teacher for written permission to go to sick bay. They must
go to sick bay (which is in the Front Office) and follow instructions from the office staff, who will contact
a parent/guardian when necessary. Sick bay is used for a short time only. Students should not call their
parents first. Please be advised the school does not supply any medication (panadol).

The Creative and Performing Arts Faculty
Term 3 is moving fast and the Creative and Performing Arts faculty is working full steam ahead
with the many, many opportunities and engaging lessons currently being provided.
Important upcoming dates to remember:
HSC Visual Arts Body of Work Exhibition September 5th 2019.
HSC Music 2 and Extension Final HSC Performance 12th of September 2019.
CAPA Showcase 12th of December 2019
I have had the pleasure of visiting many classrooms and seeing very engaged students who
are listening attentively or participating in hands on practical activities. CAPA staff have really
outshone themselves this term with lots of new activities and content that students have
thoroughly enjoyed. Students have many opportunities that stem from their CAPA subjects.
Please encourage your children to get involved and have a go at the variety of programs
we have running to expand and strengthen their skills across all the arts.
We aim for extraordinary results with all of our students in the Creative and Performing Arts
Faculty. To assist us developing your sons and daughters, it is essential that each student in
our classes has the appropriate equipment for each lesson. Please check with your child to
ensure that all students are prepared for each lesson.
Miss Kristy Pugliano
Head Teacher of Creative and Performing Arts
Visual Arts:
Year 8 Visual arts are enjoying designing and constructing a ceramic totem. They are
employing a variety of clay techniques, including slab, coil and pinch, to construct their
personal and cultural inspired design. Images from 8VAUL3.
In Term 2 support students created
cool masks of their favourite Pop
Culture star. Students used
cardboard and mixed materials to
hand draw and paint their masks.
Page 9

Students from Support 1 Visual Arts have been learning about Australian artists and their
influence in landscape paintings. They are studying perspective and altering their
observation of nature. Here they are with their John Wolseley inspired ‘Birds in Paradise’
artworks. Students hand drew, blended and coloured in leaves and birds using oil pastels to
make an amazing montage of textures and colours.
Students were graffiti artists for a day when they used spray paint to make these cool stencil
prints. They collected leaves and branches and used spray paint to create layers of shapes.
Year 9 Visual Arts students have been extending their skills and have been learning to painting
using oil paints. This is a very advanced style of Still Life painting and Year 9 Visual Arts students
are to be commended on their sensational results.
