The Year 13 Physical Education students have been training for the last 2 months for the Auckland Tough Guy and Gal event. To do this the students have been utilising the facilities at New York Fitness on Elliott Street in Papakura. Owned and operated by a family of ex-Rosehill College students, we have been lucky enough to use the

state of the art equipment at the local gym. During our period 4 lessons, students have worked on developing their cardiovascular fitness in the ‘Cardio room” and during our period 5 lessons we were taken for training sessions by the master trainer Flloyd from Smashfit. We are thankful to New York Fitness for giving our students the opportunity to train at the gym and allow them to give their best at the Tough Guy and Gal event.

On Sunday the Rosehill U70’s rugby team had the privilege of playing King William’s college who were on a rugby tour from Isle of Man at Massey Park. After opening with a Haka the boys got down to business & showed them why NZ is famous for their rugby, it was an enjoyable game which we won 24-10Try scorers: Joel Nix, Daniel Moloney, Josh John Andrews & Anaru HallConversions: Daniel Moloney. The supporters in the stand really made it an awesome experience also. The after function was held in the Papakura Club rooms where the boys mingled together & shared experiences from both sides of the world. They were an awesome bunch to mingle with & we felt honoured to be a part of their tour. They selected our player of the match which was Anaru Hall & gifted something to our captain Noah Campbell as well. Both teams did Rosehill proud on Sunday. 1.What is measles? Measles is a virus that can make adults and children very sick. It is highly infectious and can spread quickly and easily through breathing, sneezing and coughing. If you are not immune to measles, you can catch the disease just by being in the same room as someone who has it.

2. What are the symptoms of measles? Measles symptoms include a high fever, runny nose, cough and sore red eyes, followed several days later by a rash starting on the face and neck before spreading to the rest of the body. Someone with measles can spread it to others from five days before the rash appears until five days after.

3. What will we do if we have a suspected case of measles at school? If we suspect measles because a student or staff member has a fever, rash or a number of the symptoms above, they will be isolated away from others and sent home. The student or staff member will need to see a doctor and be cleared of measles before they can return to school. It’s important that they, or their caregiver, ring ahead to let the health center, hospital or A&E clinic know so they can be isolated on arrival.

4. Who is immune? People are immune and not at risk of measles if they… Have had one (ideally two) doses of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine documented in a Well Child/Tamariki Ora book or by a doctor. Were born before 1969, as they would very likely have had measles as a studentHave been diagnosed with measles before. Have had a blood test confirming immunity People are not immune or are at risk of measles if they…Have had no doses of MMR vaccine Have a weakened immune system Have had a blood test that confirms they are not immune Are currently pregnant and not known to be immune

5. Infection control If you have a confirmed case of measles at your school, no special cleaning is required. This is because the measles virus has a short survival time (less than 2 hours) and is rapidly inactivated by heat and sunlight.

Matariki CelebrationsMatariki - meaning mata-eyes ariki-God: Eyes of God.This is a cluster of stars whetū in the sky that signal the beginning of the new year. Tuesday Rātū 25th June began our Matariki Celebrations held at lunchtime. The set up on the field was open to all to play Ki-o-rahi, a matariki inspired game. We had a decent amount of interest but no takers.

Wednesday Rāapa members of our leadership team Tangiwairoa Cook and Lavinya Ranga helped to make biscuit dough for those whom wanted to make star shaped biscuits and decorate them. One of the biggest helps on this particular day was a year 9 student Joey Kahui whom helped tirelessly to make the dough and clean up the here umu (kitchen).

Senior Art Exhibition

Friday Rāmere followed with fried bread made by Shikayla Faitua’s mum - Marama Teuila Lepou-Faitua. Ngā mihi nui kia koe Marama! Lines of students came to M block to eat the paraoa parai - fried bread and pumpkin soup on a cold day, and revel in the sounds of Kapahaka playing in the background. An enjoyable week for all whom participated.
