Last Wednesday, 14 February, parents/ caregivers met informally with teachers for our annual “Meet and Greet” barbecue. The aernoon was a great opportunity for parents/caregivers to meet and discuss their children’s educaonal needs with their teachers. We have just heard back from the Allora Show Society that the conduct of our students at the Allora Show was once again exemplary – so much so that Mr Ted Cowley arranged for cer� fi cates to be presented to several of our students including Charlize W, Jacob M, Faith Mc and Ala F. Well done, students!

Tuckshop volunteers are urgently needed. If you can

help out for an hour or two once a month on a Monday,

Wednesday or Friday (usual tuckshop days), please contact

Serena at the tuckshop on 4666 7226. It is a great way to

meet new people and get to know the children at school.

Assessment Informa! on from Mr Hay

7 English - working our way through out fi rst unit on Persuasion. We

will conduct a “Monitoring Task” in class this week, where we will test

how our students are going thus far. We will then begin the second part

of the unit, which is on “Persuasive Speaking”. Students will have to

plan, write and deliver a short persuasive speech. The an! cipated date

for this task will be the second last week of term. Weekly homework

tasks have been distributed (Monday) and will be due every Friday.

8 English: Assessment task for “Representa! ons in the News Media”

will be held next week.

9 History: Assessment task for Slavery unit will be an end of unit exam,

which will be held in the last week of term.

10 English: Assessment task for Sa! re unit will be distributed next

week. Task will be completed in class, under exam condi! ons.

Barefoot Bowls - P&C Fundraiser

Our Parents and Ci! zens’ Associa! on have organised a fun night,

with barefoot bowls and a BBQ to be held on Friday 23 March at

the Allora Sports Club. REGISTRATION is essen! al. $5/team of 4

people. Prizes for the best team name / team ou" it. A sausage

sizzle and barbecue will begin at 5pm, with bowling commencing at

Year 1 to Year 10 Religion Permission / Non-Permission forms are

due back to the offi ce, as religion lessons have begun. There are

s! ll some forms outstanding.

A second copy of the gold Student Resource Scheme -

Par! cipa! on Agreement Form has been posted home. It is an

audit requirement that we hold a signed copy of this form in the

offi ce. Please complete and sign the form and return to the offi ce

promptly. Payment is not required un! l the end of March.

School Photo Forms - Just a reminder that school photo forms (for

all students) and student ID forms (for students in Years 7-10) have

been sent home with students. If you wish to order school photos,

the order form and payment need to be returned to the school by

noon on Friday 23 February 2018 (cheques payable to Queensland

School Photography Pty Ltd). For Student ID for students in Years

7-10 only, cheques are to be payable to Allora State School, with

money and order also due by noon on Friday 23 February.

Southern Downs Swimming - Congratula! ons to all swimmers

who a% ended the recent Southern Downs swimming carnival as

members of the Central Downs Team. Well done to Georgina L

Runner-Up) and Hamish G (12Yrs Runner-Up). We would like to

Border District Summer Trials - Border District Summer trials were

held recently and a number of Allora students were selected to

compete at the next level. Well done Ryley L, Jacob M, Lexie H and

Alexia L. Ryley, Jacob and Alexia went to Darling Downs trials on

Tuesday 13 February but were unsuccessful in gaining a spot in the

Darling Downs team.

Border District Winter Trials - We have a number of students

compe! ng for selec! on in netball, soccer and hockey this Thursday

in Warwick as part of the Border District Winter trials. Good luck is

extended to these students.

Central Downs Sports Trials - A number of 11 and 12 year old

students will take part in a number of spor! ng trials next week.

The Rugby League trials will be held next Wednesday and Netball

and Soccer trials will be held on Thursday. All the best to those

students trialling.

Central Downs Triathlon - A number of Allora students have

expressed an interest in compe! ng at the Triathlon in Nobby on

Friday 9 March. Good Luck to these students.

A Note from the Library

Book Club orders have now been delivered to students. Thank you

to all students and parents who support this venture.

Library borrowing has commenced and it’s wonderful to see

so many students borrowing from our fantas! c library. Please

remember that students must bring a library bag with them to

! cket books out for the Easter raffl e. Each class teacher in the primary area have ! ckets to sell in the raffl e if primary

students/parents are interested in purchasing some. Year 10 students are selling ! ckets, along with some Year 8 and

Year 9 students. Tickets are $1 each. First prize is a wooden truck full of Easter eggs. There will be several smaller

prizes as well. You have to be in it, to win it! The raffl e will be drawn on assembly on Monday 26 March (last assembly

before the holidays).

Disco - Friday 9 March - “Under The Sea” theme. Performing Arts Hall, Allora P-10 State School. Prep to Year 6 students

will be a few prizes throughout the season as well, including four $25 gi* vouchers from the hardware. You will be able

to keep an eye on how you are going, by checking the board at the Allora Hardware. The more people who enter the
