PERMIT #141
FROM THE COMMANDER
As always I want to thank all of you that help out at the
Post in various ways in putting our Post on the path of being
the place to go for a great time, the names are too numerous
to list but you all know who you are. Thank you!
First, we are in need of a Service Officer. What is a Service
Officer? He/she provides information on the rights and benefits obtained by
the American Legion to members and their dependents. Anyone wishing to
step into this position please contact me a.s.a.p. A school will be held at the
Fall Conference for this position but it fills quickly so time is of the essence.
1 November 2016 is the date decided on at the last meeting that the Post
will go non-smoking.
Approved outside seating is available for those that want to have a
smoke. We are still working with various state agencies to have food and
alcohol outside.
A lot of events are in the works for the Post, and the kitchen is open
more often, so check the calendar for the changes.
The Post now accepts credit cards! Our POS system is up and working
well.
Participation is what will make our Post grow. So come out and support
the valiant effort of the entire Legion Family. If you want to volunteer, just
come to the Post on the day you want to help. Experience is not necessary!
If you have a suggestion please either call, email, place it in the
suggestion box, or attend a meeting. All items are reviewed and placed
under consideration.
See you at upcoming events.

you paid your 2016 dues yet? The dues are now $40.00 as your dues notice
has indicated.
The Early Bird Dinner, compliments of your American Legion Post 163, will
be on October 22. Details in the events section of this newsletter.
Now that a no-smoking date has been posted as you wished, we are doing all
we can to made the atmosphere as pleasant as possible. This will take a little
time. Your support and attendance would be appreciated. Please join us for
daily lunches, dinners, and other events. You asked for it, now is your chance
to show us that the changes are worthwhile.
We need volunteers. There are several areas that you could get involved in
and spend as little or much time as you desire.

FORGET NEVER
FROM THE AUXILIARY PRESIDENT
In September the Unit will be getting prepared for
Hiking the Trails of Success for Our Veterans and their
families. I hope that you ladies will come out and support
our Labor Day lunch (it is being requested that the auxil-
iary members bring side dishes in for the hamburgers and
hotdogs that will be served.) It would really be nice to see a nice group
turn out for the annual 9/11 Ceremony that is held at the Post Home at
8:30 a.m. (coffee, juice and donuts will be provided) on September 11th.
I hope that all the Legion family and friends will please come out and
support our Annual POW/MIA Recognition Day Ceremony. It will be
held at the Post Home on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 4:30 p.m.
Please mark your calendar and take an hour or 2 out of your busy day and
help all of us to honor and remember those who have never made it home
and those who have. This is really important! There will be a great home
cooked open faced roast beef dinner following. Hope to see a big turnout.
Please keep your post 163 events calendar close at hand so that you
keep track of when you can visit your Post and share in the fun events that
are being planned for you the member.
Ladies I hope to see more of you at our monthly meetings that are
held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
God Bless you all.

Billie Pierce, President

FROM THE A.L.R. DIRECTOR The Legion Riders are actively supporting area veterans. We have and continue to visit veterans at the Avante Assisted Living Facility. We also continue to raise money and donate to homeless veterans organizations. The Riders have also been actively supporting Post 163. We have taken the lead in establishing our outside seating area. We are also trying to recruit new members for the Post as well as the Riders. The Post is in need of new members that are willing to step up and volun-teer to help out in all the Post activities. Currently Riders are working the kitchen on both the Legion weekend as well as the Riders week-end.
