Many of you have reached out to staff to share yourgratitude for a number of reasons. I truly thank you for planting positive seedsand fueling our students and staff through obstacles this week. I sincerelythank you for reaching out to the families and loved ones left in need ofsupport and sympathy due to the tragic event that occurred this week. As acommunity, we can overcome unfortunate circumstances through supporting ourcommunity members. We should always remember to cherish the good times andmemories with each other. Thank you again foryour patience through our Georgia Milestones EOG administration. Your support,flexibility, and understanding is truly appreciated. We will continue shareyour feedback and concerns with our district departments and will continue towork with them in effort to improve our testing administrations for ourstudents. Monday May 2, 2016 marks the beginning of the Georgia MilestonesEOC for students enrolled in high school science courses. We will begin our scienceadministration Monday at 9 AM. If you have questions regarding theadministration, please feel free to reach out to our testing coordinatorJanette Hinton at [email protected] . CourseVerification Forms will be distributed to our rising 7th and 8thgraders the week of May 2nd. If you are not in agreement with yourstudent’s current placement, you may make changes on these forms and returnthem to their Thrive teachers. All forms, with or without changes, should bereturned to the school by May 9th. We are exploring the option ofadding another Career Tech course to our current connections course options forthe 2016-17 school year. WILDCAT DAY IS COMING!

WILDCAT DAY is coming! This year's Wildcat Nationcelebration will be held on Monday, May 23rd. If any parent wouldlike to volunteer to help pass out water as needed during the day, pleasecontact Mrs.Armstrong. Also, parents, please be aware that as a part ofthe celebration, students will watch theanimated PG movie, "Inside Out". If you wish to have your child opt out of watching the movie, pleasesend anemail to your child's Thrive teacher prior to May 23rd.

Atlanta Humane Society DonationDrive/Spirit Week

On behalf of the NMS Run Club, we would like to thankeveryone who donated to the Atlanta HumaneSociety and participated in thespirit week! We will announce the winning grade level and the totalamountraised in the coming weeks!

Any 8th grader attending Milton next year who isinterested in joining the Cross Country team, pleasecome to the wildcat den onMonday 5/2 during thrive to meet the 2016 captains. They will be informingyouabout upcoming events and all the fun and success you will have if you join.

NMS JUNIOR BETA CLUB will be accepting applications for the 2016-17 schoolyear beginning in August, 2016Deadline: Friday, August 26th

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Junior Beta is open to current 7th and 8th grade students meeting theserequirements: 1. Minimum 88% GPA across Core and Connections classes(verified by sponsors) 2. 1’s and 2’s in conduct remarks each 9 weekgrading period 3. Complete 10 summer service hours prior to application.(Submit on proper form)*** 4. Once accepted into membership: Complete 20service hours each school semester for a total of 50for the year. (10 summer;20 fall; 20 spring) 5. No ISS or OSS assignments during current school year 6.Be current on membership dues ($30- new members; $15- returning members) 7.Miss no more than 2 meetings per semester-with writtenexcuse. 8. Strive to participate in one Junior Beta Service Saturday persemester.

Applications are accepted in August of each school year. They areavailable in the front office or fromclub sponsors in room 915 and 903beginning early August.

The NMS Junior Beta Club Meetings are the second school day Tuesday of eachmonth from 4:15 - 4:55pm in the Media Center; possible exception occurs inApril due to Georgia Milestones testing.

An informational meeting for new members and/or their parents will be heldAugust 16, 2016 at 4:15pmin the media center.

Accepted members are announced via homeroom classes early in Septemberfollowed by our first clubmeeting on September 13, 2016; 4:15 – 4:50.

Junior Beta Induction Ceremony

Invitations for the 2015-16 Junior Beta Induction Ceremonyof new members will be issued on Tuesdayand Wednesday, May 2nd and3rd through THRIVE classes. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday,May 10th at 6:30pmin the school cafeteria. All members areencouraged to attend this special end ofyear event, where new members will beinducted and this year’s awards distributed. Parents and staff

are welcome to attend this special evening. Attireshould be slacks with nice shirt for guys, nice dress orslacks for girls. Invitations were not issued to members whodid not turn in their spring service tally sheetor did not meet the 88% gradeaverage for the year. If your child is acurrent member, in good standing,who did not receive an invitation, pleaseemail Mrs. Daniel at [email protected].

Dear 8thGrade Students and Parents:

We are excited to celebrate the final year of Middle Schoolwith an 8th grade dance. There is a $10.00fee to help offset the cost of food, a photo booth, and theDJ. Please review the following rules:

1. Thedance begins at 6:30 p.m. Students must check in as they enter through theWildcat Den. 2. Parentsmust pick up students by 9:30 p.m. 3. Studentsmust stay in the designated areas during the dance. Once students leave the dance

they will not be allowed to return.4. Studentsmust attend school the ENTIREday on May 13th in order to attend the dance. 5. Anystudent assigned In-School or Out-of-School Suspension on May 13thwill not be allowed to

attendthe dance.6. AllFulton County and Northwestern School rules, including dress code, apply.

7. Nooutside food or drink will be permitted.

Miss Amazing Pageant!

Miss Amazing Inc. is a national non-profit 501c (3) organization that offers pageants for girls and womenwith disabilities in over 30 states. Miss Amazing aims to build the self confidence of those withdisabilities in a safe and supportive environment. We believe all people should be given theopportunity to reach their full potential.

The fourth annual Miss Amazing pageant in Georgia will be held on Saturday, 4/30, at Lassiter ConcertHall in Marietta. The pageant is free of charge for participants, with a suggested donation of five cansof food. The day includes; interviews, on stage introductions, evening-wear presentations, and anoptional talent show. The participants of the Miss Amazing Pageant learn valuable life skills helpingthem reach their own unique goals and dreams. Miss Amazing welcomes all females ages five andolder. (Boys and men are also invited to participate as escorts to participants as Right-Hand Men.) It isproven to be life-changing experience! The last day to return textbooks will be May 18th. Pleasehelp your student be proactive in locatingtextbooks as fines can be costly andcould result inreport cards being held.

Students will be returning textbooks shortly. Withthequick turnaround at the end of the year, Mrs.Robbins is now able to take backany of thesecond sets of textbooks if you are not usingthem. When youare finished, please send in orbring the textbooks to the front office.

8th Grade Celebration

Mark your calendars! We will celebrate thepromotion of our 8th grade class on May 26th at 10 aminthe gymnasium. Please look for information to be sent home with yourchild next week. We lookforward to celebrating the accomplishments ofour 8th grade students!
