Sal Canale 2002 Thunderbird
All black,2002 T-Bird 3.9 CID V8 252 HBP, purchased Feb 06 in immaculate condition and history
from Able Ford. My Wife used some of her pension funds to buy me a 50’s street rod , a wish of
mine for many years. I decided on a perfect compromise, the new T-Bird which retains the fea-
tures and lines of the grand old Birds of the 50’s. Wanting extra muscle I installed a Borla exhaust
system, had Dan Carlson of Speed Auto for a dyno calibration which increased HP 222 to 232.
Sharing the same aluminum engine with the Lincoln, my Bird has the removable porthole top.
When I learned that Ford conceded to a hard tonneau cover to woo the public with an added
sleek look , I had to have one. Best regards Sal

What Comes After Twelve?
…and Happy Father’s Day
Our show is just around the corner and we only have about 23 people pre-registered, with both clubs combined. Most of the pre-reg. are
T.O.N.Y. members. So, I ask you what’s wrong with this picture. Please go to page nine, fill out the show form and mail your check to Dennis.
While you’re writing your check why not include a few Paso’s more for ―Building Homes for Heroes‖.
On the other side of the coin, your $15.00 will entitle you to a theme T-Shirt, with our three sponsors on the back along with the Motor Mouth
Radio logo. Our charity again this year is the ―Building Homes for Heroes‖, with its logo right in the middle of our three advertisers. At the top
of the shirt will be our new sponsor: ―Siben & Siben and all their contact info.
Show awards this year will be plaques again. First place is bigger, second place is smaller and etc. If you scroll down to the extra pages in this
newsletter you will see the art work for the plaques. This year along with the Jackets for Best in Show we’ll also have a jacket for Best in Show
for the Shelby Mustang Club. Awards will be plaques for the winners. I have also invited a vendor that we see every year at the North Jersey
Thunderbird Show.
HELP WANTED
Every year at our show we never have enough volunteers. Our pre-reg. show tent is always manned with the same people like Dennis B, and the
Daly’s doing their annual duties. Our day of show tent with Ken Weinberg and Art Fleming needs help all the time. With the possibility of
perhaps (70) cars that day, it would get crazy. We need help with the parking, and need members walking around with the 50/50 for cash.
Interested? Get to the show at 6 AM to set up. One perk for those who help is an additional T-Shirt, different color and STAFF on the back.
You all have my phone number don’t be bashful, and reach out to me to help out!
Just a short footnote to Help Wanted: As of right now, there are only (11) volunteers. Between you and me, not nearly enough bodies.
I Have Come Full Circle: On Monday, May 14th I was invited to attend the monthly Mustang Club meeting at Marjorie Post Park in Massape-
qua, and along for protection I asked Bob Marketta, AKA Mr. Music, if he would like to come for the ride. About a half hour into the meeting I
was asked to talk about our show, and I did. I threw in a few Weinerizems, dazzled them with my foot work, some yuks, and headed for home.
I mention full circle because about thirteen years ago after our first show at Sayville Ford, that generation of Mustang Club did not even want us
on the planet. These current generations are a bunch of really stand up guys, and we hope to see them in mass at our show.
Sunday, May 20th/National Thunderbird Appreciation Day/KP NY: With the threat of moisture it reduced the flock of Birds by a few.
However, Mother Nature was kind to us and it turned into one hell of a day! Bob Marketta, AKA Mr. Music, brought the entertainment. He set
up his DJ equipment and we had tunes all day.
Next: It seems every time we have an event with T.O.N.Y., they always outnumber us. I was thinking of changing my last name to Custer but
today we beat the clock and had them beat by two to one. Nice work guys. We ordered seven pies and I collected $5.00 from all who attended
to help with the cost of the pizza. In lieu of the $5.00, each attendee received a raffle ticket with the chance of winning a detail product donated
by yours truly from Surf City Garage.
Lastly/American Gangster: I believe it was 2007 that Big Bird was in the movie. During my trips to movie shoots I found some of the produc-
tion people wearing hoodies with American Gangster embroider across the front of them. I asked where I can get one. There answer ―you
can’t‖, however, long time member Rich Kamin who was involved in the movie industry for years brought me a gift today. Let’s call it ―The
Hoodie‖. I was blown away, and thanked him for this special gift.
Attendees: Not in any order. Rich Kamen, Ken Weinberg, Bob Marketta, Walter Stoeber, Art Fleming, Larry Werkstell, John Guiliano, Darryl
Dowers, Mr. & Mrs. Frisbe, Mr. & Mrs. Nardello, Mr. & Mrs. Cardinale, Mr. & Mrs. Henry Rajowski.

North Jer- sey Thunderbird Show/Saturday, June 9, 2018: It’s $15.00 if you pre-register, and $20.00 at the gate. If you are inter-
ested in go- ing, call me so we can caravan as a group to the show. In the extra pages of this newsletter is their registration form. We
meet at the police barracks on the SSP at around 6:45 a.m. SHARP, and then off to Pompton Plains. The trip takes about an hour and
fifteen min- utes, (last year we made it in less than an hour - I did not think my car could go that fast). We usually stop at the local
bagel place in Pompton Plains for breakfast on the way to the show. Don’t forget to bring your EZ Pass.
Police Surgeon’s Benevolent Association Car Show/Sunday, June 10, 2018 @ St. Anthony’s High School in Dix Hills: I have pre-
registered, how about you? The St. Anthony’s show is for a good cause and if you’re thinking of coming, let us know so we can park together
Thursday, June 21st - Outdoor Meeting @ Kings Park Plaza: This is a regular cruise night and I’m there almost every week. There are a
nice bunch of people and vehicles there. Also, the Merchants and the Chamber of Commerce support this event. There is pizza, the Professors
Diner, and Chinese food to eat, so you will not go hungry. This location will be our venue for our Thunderbird Ford Show. Remember this is an
informal meeting. No real theme, just hanging out and talking cars.
Directions: Heading north on the Sunken Meadow Parkway, get off at Indian Head Road. Continue north on IH for about three miles until you
see the shopping center on your left. If you hit the RR tracks you went too far.
Newsday Show - Saturday, May 19, 2018: Canceled due to the weather and moved to Saturday, June 16, 2018.

THUNDERBIRD APPRECIATION DAY MAY 20TH 2018
Thanks to our friends at VTCI for making us aware of this!!
Wixom, Mich – February 4, 2018 Owners of Ford’s Thunderbird from around the
world will be sharing their iconic cars with the public on “Thunderbird Appreciation
Day” May 20th, 2018. The three large Thunderbird clubs; Classic Thunderbird
Club International (CTCI), Vintage Thunderbird Club International (VTCI) and In-
ternational Thunderbird Club (ITC) are encouraging their members to take their
Thunderbirds out, individually or in groups, to places for the general-public to see,
to learn more about and to just plain enjoy.
“2017 was the inaugural year for “Thunderbird Appreciation Day” and it was a
great success!” reports Chuck Thompson, CTCI president. “Owners world-wide
took their cars to diners and parks, museums and on road trips, anywhere folks
don’t usually get to see these types of cars.”
With over 4 million Thunderbirds produced by Ford Motor Company from 1955 to
2005, it is still not common to see a Thunderbird on the road today, even later
models. This is the reason that the three Thunderbird clubs have agreed on May
20th as a day to share their Thunderbirds with the world.
“As a Thunderbird owner for many years, you don’t have to tell me it is a unique
car” adds VTCI president Rod Wake. “This day gives Thunderbird owners world-
wide the opportunity to let others see and learn why Ford touted these cars as
“Unique In All the World!””.
For a vehicle that has been out of production for over a decade, their presence is
still felt worldwide. Thunderbird owners can be found in all over North and South
America as well as Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and Europe.
“Many of our club members were excited for Thunderbird Appreciation Day last
year and I think the number of members taking their Thunderbirds out will only in-
crease this year!”, said ITC president Gerard Bartarsavich. “Members were post-
ing pictures and writing about their experiences for days on social media!”
For more details go to the VTCI website or the VTCI’s Facebook page. Thunder-
bird owners are asked to share pictures and stories that occur during Thunderbird
Appreciation Day on the club’s Facebook page.

GROUP LIFT PURCHASE Is anyone interested in buying a 4-post lift for their garage? I am refurbishing my garage, and have done some research on lifts. I have settled on the Backyard Buddy 7,000lb.
Standard Lift. BYB can store 2 cars in the space of one, requiring just 9' wide, 16' long, 9' ceiling height, and a 120V outlet to store one car above another car, where the lower car is
60" at its highest point or less (e.g. my 1970 Boss 302 on top of my 2013 Boss 302, for ex-ample). The lift is made in Warren, OH, has the best construction & lift locking system in my
opinion, offers jacks, drip pans, and wheels for movement, and offers the best warranty I can find. Go to their website & see for yourself www.backyardbuddy.com. It is also probably the
most expensive 4-post lift at $4,595. But I want one! I would like to assemble a group of 10 or more car guys living here on Long Island who would
like to buy this lift this summer. Then I intend to take the order to the All Ford Nationals (June 2-4), where Backyard Buddy will have a booth. My theory is in addition to the $300 -
400 show special, I can negotiate a volume price delivered to one "area". By negotiating a group purchase discount added to the reduced freight and the show special, I am going to try
to knock $ 500 - 1,000 off the standard retail price of the lift.
Please realize (1) You will still have to pay someone to install the lift at your home ($500 -
1,000), (2) You will have to modify your garage door tracks to clear the lift (~$200), (3) There is no guarantee of the final price; I can only try to get the $1,000 discount I seek. But
10 units should get us some discount; 20+ units will entice the manufacture to give a sub-stantial discount. As an additional incentive, I would invite the Backyard Buddy Marketing
team to come to Long Island and talk to / interview those who participated for their advertis-ing testimonials.
Please contact me by phone or email (below) with any questions, giving me your name, your
email address, phone, and address as confirmation you are willing to spend the necessary funds in June-July. Thank you!
