SPRING IS HERE!
Of course as much as we look forward to leaving winter behind, there IS spring house cleaning! The nurses of RSU 40 would like to encourage you to remember to clean out your medicine cabinet. This includes medications that are outdated or discontinued, whether they are prescription or over the counter products. Sunscreen has an expiration date and also needs to be replaced in order to be effective. Bug repellent should be replaced each year as well. Medications are not safe to be discarded in landfills, but rather should be disposed of by dropping them off at either the Waldoboro Police Department, Route 1 in Waldoboro or the Knox County Sherriff’s Department, located at 327 Park Street in Rockland. If your student has medications kept at school, please make arrangements to pick them up prior to the end of the school year. A parent must pick them up, as we cannot send them home with a student.
Just one more step in keeping our families safe!

Library Happenings We are now collecting books to rest on the shelves in our library for the summer. Please, look around for any misplaced or due books your child has at home. Reminders are being sent home to those who have books yet to be returned. Your help is very much appreciated. We are almost ready to turn the calendar page once more before summer days are upon us. How quickly the year has gone! There will be a celebration for the MSBA participants in June. We are proud of our avid readers here at FVS. Technology seems to be impacting the use of books that we can actually sit down with and read. It is wonderful how our students here still enjoy the touch and feel of a book. They continue to be enthusiastic about the library and checking out books. The support of our families and community is to be commended. As always, READ ON!

There are always lots of activities at this time of year in classes. Please be sure to check in as a volunteer if you’re coming to join a class activity or celebration. It is for the safety of all our children that we know who is in the building at all times.
We will have our awards program on June 14th at 1:30 p.m. and field day on our last day June 15th. Students will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. on the last day.
Enjoy your long weekend!

Ever wonder why you need water? Like food, water acts like fuel in your body and helps your body run. To keep your body running smoothly, drink plenty of water throughout the day.
kids who eat healthy, drink enough water, and sleep well at night will have more energy for all their sports and activities! • Between 70-80% of your body is made up of water.• Water is the # 1 thirst quencher.
give Your Body Water When You need More Fuel!
When you exercise, you sweat, and when you sweat, you LOSe water and minerals. it’s important to replace the water you lose when you sweat by drinking water. you can replace the minerals by eating a piece of fruit such as a banana. it’s uncommon for kids to reach a level of activity where they require sports drinks. Most often the best choice is water and a light snack.
energy drinks should never be used to replace water during exercise. Most energy drinks, like Red Bull and SuperStar, contain CaFFEinE. Caffeine causes the body to lose water and can sometimes cause anxiety, headaches, stomachaches, and sleep problems.
energy drinks and many sports drinks contain HIgH amounts of sugar and calories. The extra sugar and calories may add to weight gain and tooth decay.
“ In a game, when my players get thirsty, water gets the call.”
