Another Pilot year has begun and we are off to a flying start! The Virginia Pilots who were able to attend the Pilot International Conference in Las Vegas had a great time and watched with pride as our own Faith Stamps became the 2017-18 PI President. For your DAC, it was a hectic week combining hard work, informative workshops, and

productive meetings. We experienced workshops that made us examine our strengths and weaknesses and how we can use that knowledge to make us better leaders and make our organization a more effective service organization. Virginia Pilots did our state proud at the International Installation Banquet and we were able to address several items during our District meeting at the PI Conference. There were 3 Pilots from Virginia attending for the first time. Amy Hurst from the Danville club won the Kindle Fire donated by the Virginia District as a PIFF fundraiser.
During the conference, we got to meet some wonderful, generous, and enthusiastic Pilots from around the world. It was so nice to see familiar faces and get to know new Pilot friends as well. District and International meetings are a wonderful way to get new ideas, discuss solutions to common problems within clubs, and renew your Pilot spirit.
Pres. Faith encouraged us to “Explore the Possibilities” and become Faith’s Adventurers in Pilot. I am very excited to be a part of Pilot International and I am honored to serve as your Governor this year. Your DAC has been working to make your Fall Council fun and informative. So, come adventure with us in Danville and begin to explore the possibilities of service within Pilot International.

Oh, how I wish ALL of you could have joined us in Las Vegas for the Pilot International Convention and Leadership Conference this July! We received leadership training, learned team building skills, participated in a hands-on service project, and were introduced to 3 new BrainMinderspuppets. We left the meeting exhausted, but excited and
energized about the future of Pilot.PLEASE make plans to attend Fall Council in Danville next month! Not only does your DAC and
the host club - PC of Danville - have a FUN meeting in store, we are sharing many of the things we discovered at PI Convention, including some of the leadership training and a new BrainMindersgame for senior citizens. World renown motivational speaker Brian Biro will be giving a dynamic workshop, too! Some of us were lucky enough to meet him at a PI Convention many years ago, and he’s FABULOUS!
It’s not often that we get to have the President of Pilot International attend our District meetings. But we’re hoping to have President Faith, as well as Past Presidents Dot Franklin and Bobbi Hudson at this one. We’re putting the final touches on it now, and you KNOW that we’re going to have an educational, entertaining, exciting, and heartwarming time. So plan to come join the fun September 29-30!!!
Can’t wait to see you there!!!

What a great time to be a Pilot! It was 20 years ago when I became a member of the Luncheon Pilot Club of Danville. I would have never dreamed how much my Pilot membership would enrich my life. Real friends bring out the best in each other. They encourage and motivate one another to reach their goals. When you run alone, you run fast. But when you run together, you run far. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve the Virginia District as Treasurer.
Many thanks to all those Pilot Clubs and District members who have sent in their dues. If you haven’t had a chance to send yours in, or have sent only a partial list of your members, please complete the process as soon as possible. Send to: Cathy Gore, 112 Windsor Trail, Danville, VA 24541.

A Message from our ECRDebbie Hayes
What a wonderful week we had in Las Vegas! While some of you won big at the slots and tables, we all came out winners at the Pilot International Annual Convention and Leadership Conference! We’re now ready to “Explore the Possibilities” of Pilot.
Our District Leaders started the week by attending Council of Leaders. These officers had two days of training, including learning more about parliamentary procedure, developing leadership skills, and receiving officer specific training, all of which they will be bringing back to your district to benefit you and your clubs. Guest speakers challenged all those attending convention to be innovative and get beyond what we’ve always done as we move our organization to our future. The workshops provided ideas and information that can be brought back to our clubs.
The updated BrainMinders program was presented in both the general session and workshops. You will want to learn more aboutthe new snippets and characters that are being introduced. New student books are being printed, and bookmarks and stickers will be available for order.
The new Compass Club logo and manual were also unveiled at convention. Approved at a previous convention, Compass Clubs are for young adults ages 18-26 (in Japan the ages are 18-28). The manual will be available on the PI website for download. Pilots can start working on a Compass Club now!
Mark your calendar for June 27 – July 1, 2018 (yes, the last week of June!) to attend the next PI Annual Convention and Leadership Conference! We will be at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee. More information to come!
I look forward to the opportunity to work with your DAC, your club, and you this year. If I can be of help to you, please contact me.
President Faith has challenged us to “Explore the Possibilities” this year. Are you ready for the adventure?

Hello Virginia Pilots. I am this year’s District Membership Coordinator. By way of introduction, I am a 25-year member of the Pilot Club of Suffolk. I have served as a division coordinator on a number of occasions, our Recording Secretary, and have just finished my fourth term as President. I have also served on the District level as District Secretary.
We’ve all heard the secret to real estate is location, location, location. I think it can be said that the secret to Pilot is membership, membership, membership. I look forward to working, and sharing ideas, with Pilots across the District on what we can do to increase membership. As we know, the stronger in numbers we are, the more serve we can provide in our communities. Also, the greater our membership, the more opportunities to make lasting friendships. Please contact me at [email protected] with your ideas. I look forward to working with you and Governor Suzanne over the next Pilot year to increase our membership, allowing us to do even more, care even more and be even more.
