Mike Mickle Mickle Communications & Video Productions

Mike Mickle is the owner of Mickle Communications. He specializes in video production work ranging from marketing videos for local companies to senior video resumes for high school students looking for college scholarships. Mike and his wife also publish QC Family Focus magazine. They publish 30-thousand copies each month. Mike anchored the news at KWQC for 18 1/2 years. He left last April. Beginning next week he will appear on WQAD for a limited engagement. He's also working on a new project for Mediacom and he's currently shooting a documentary for Iowa Public Television. Mike and his wife, Karen are the proud parents of 3 children, Kyle, Kate and Matt.

The departure of the Group Study Exchange Team on Monday April 19 brings a long list of people to thank for making the week a successful & rewarding experience for Glenys, Matthew, Marcus, Kerrie and Cindy, from D9790

of Australia. The home host families of Bob & Ann Bainter, Chris & Connie Connolly, Bill & Marilyn Puck, Fred Mulch & Nancy Kime and Dennis & Deb Peterson, were on call almost 24 hours a day for a week. The drivers for the week, Merle Anderson, Serge Pasheev, Ken Tank, Rich Golinghorst, Bob Bainter, Paul Kalainoff & Deb Peterson, picked up the team in Grinnell, dropped them off in Grand View and shuttled them to assorted activities & locations through out the week. Thanks also to Mary Ellen Chamberlin for the tour of Davenport and lunch at Rhythm City Casino. To Lisa and John Maxwell for leading an all day farm tour and feeding the team and host families. To Elza and Teri Sager for the musical entertainment at Maxwell’s farm. To Brad Burt for taking Marcus & Matthew to a Chicago Cub’s baseball game. To Nancy Kime for taking Glenys, Kerrie & Cindy jewelry shopping. To the Connolly & Mulch Families for taking the girls to Dubuque site seeing and shopping. To Steve Suiter for arranging the Farewell Dinner at the Davenport Country Club. To officers Chuck Briegel and Charlie Jones for the warm welcome to the team at the Machine Shed. SPECIAL PAUL HARRIS RECOGNITION DAY ON

MAY 7, 2010

Jan Trimble, Chair of the New Ideas Committee and Teresa Paper, Chair of the Foundation Committee, with help and ideas from Kellie Esters, are planning a special recognition of everyone in the club whom has a Paul Harris designation. The meeting will have a special speaker from the Chicago International office. Everyone is asked to wear their Paul Harris pins and medallions in celebration of this event. Spouses and others are invited, especially if they have a Paul Harris designation, also. Several people will receive Paul Harris gifts that day, so please be sure to sign up on the Blue sheets at the meetings on April 23 & 30. We will be meeting in the pool area of the Steeplegate that day and need to know how many to plan for. What is the Paul Harris Society? The Paul Harris Society is a special district recognition program designed for Rotarians who wish to support The Rotary Foundation in a more substantial way. The PHS recognizes Rotarians and friends when they have contributed $1000 to the Annual Programs Fund, Polio Plus, Polio Plus Partners or the Humanitarian Grants Program. The first PHS was established in 1998 in District 5340 (California) and gained momentum and spread to districts throughout the world. The trustees of The Rotary Foundation officially approved the PHS as a district-administered recognition program, effective July 1, 2006.

GSE TEAM D9790, Melbourne, Australia Seventy people were present to listen to the five members of the Group Study Exchange Team tell about themselves, their employment and families. Glenys Hall, the team leader has been a Rotarian for 12 years and farms with her husband of 42 years, Winston, near Albury. She keeps very busy with Rotary and will be her club’s president in 2011-12. She is also participating in a Rotary Friendship Exchange in Spokane, WA in May. Matthew Pitzen lives in Holbrook and is a stock & station agent in the family business with his father. He spends most of his time marketing sheep & cattle and is also a Real Estate Agent. He is married to Margot and they have 3 children. Marcus Walta is from Euroa and is the Red Meat National Replenishment Manager for Coles Supermarkets. He has also worked for Mars Confectionery and spent time working in China and England. Cindy Uren lives in Moonee Ponds and works as a personal assistant to the National Supply Chain Manager at Bunnings. She is from a “Brady-Bunch” type of family and enjoys family gatherings. Dr. Kerrie Lante received her PhD in 2007 in the field of mental retardation. She teaches and lectures on disability related courses. She likes to travel with her husband, Roger, as she shares her knowledge with other universities. Guests present were: Rotarian Neal Bredbeck, son of Walt Bredbeck, Ron Sebastian, guest of Tom Messer, Jesse Clark, guest of Serge Pasheev, Ann Bainter, Susan Kalainoff, Jaime Ruiz and Dr. Nancy Kime. Students were present from Davenport Assumption. They were accompanied by Julie

Fulton, counselor. Mary Agnoli, outbound Youth Exchange student, sponsored by North Scott Rotary was introduced by Julie. Other students present were Blake Schnedon and Christina Gallagher-Quilty. Some of Blake’s activities include: Basketball, Tennis, Student Ambassador, FCA, NHS, Golf, Baseball & Chess Club. Christine is involved with: NHS, Mock trial, Tennis, Band, and teaching at St. Mary’s Sunday School. Linda Fredericksen gave $20 to the education fund in honor of a new granddaughter. Jim Koehler gave $50 in celebration of a clean bill of health and to celebrate his grandson being accepted into medical school. Sergeant John Maxwell collected $29 in fines. Charlie Jones asked for members to turn in committee sheets. Kelly Meyer gave a wrap up on the Special Olympics. Chuck reminded members about the District Conference this next weekend in Burlington, the Paul Harris lunch in May and also the Putnam Adventure for kids in May.
