KATRA: As part of the cele- bration of International Women's Day, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCoN), Kakryal, organised a prelimi- nary screening camp for women employees of the Shrine Board to conduct their general health check up at the Spiritual Growth Centre, Katra on Thursday. The students of the SMVDCoN conducted blood sugar testing of the visitors to the camp to detect diabetic cases besides conducting their haemoglobin estimation to identify cases of anaemia. They were also advised about diets to be taken in case of hyperten- sion, diabetes and anaemia. More than 40 women employ- ees of the Board participated in the camp. SMVDCoN also organised a Health Awareness Camp for women at Kakryal in which the students and faculty of this institution apprised them about breast self examination techniques to detect any possi- ble ailment. Nearly 40 women took part in this camp. These camps were organised under the supervision of Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing. POONCH: Army celebrated 'International Women's Day' at various Youth Centers and schools of Rajouri and Poonch districts. In an effort to gener- ate awareness about gender equality and women empower- ment, Indian Army conducted a variety of activities to include motivational lecture, Medical Checkup Camp, Skit etc at Youth Centre Surankote, Youth Centre Chhatral, Army Goodwill School, Potha, Government High School, Poonch in Poonch district and Government High School, Hattan Seri and Azad Public School, Phardhala in Rajouri district. Large number of persons to include Principal, Teachers, Students and members of civil society attended the events with great amount of zeal and enthusiasm. Today women are playing an equal role in nation building and thus it is impor- tant that they are given equal opportunity in all spheres to include education, health, employment etc to enable them to become responsible and capable citizens of the country. BHADARWAH: A seminar on women empowerment was organised by Gender Champions of GDC Bhaderwah.The event was organised by the joint efforts of Gender Champion Committee and other teaching faculty of the college. The programme started with a formal welcome address by Convener of the Gender Champions Committee Prof. Pinky Kotwal. The other mem- bers of the gender champions committee namely Prof. DeepaKak, Prof. Vijay Kumari, Prof. Jai Mala, Prof. Manzoor, Prof. Manjeetalso equally also spoke on the occasion. The student speakers delivered some impressive speeches on the occasion and three of them were awarded also with the first prize to Sharvan Goswami, second - Rabia Bano and third to Devansh Sharma. Prof. Arjun Kotwal, Prof. Jaivardhana and Prof. Ravinder Kumar were the jury members to judge the performance of student speak- ers. The seminar was official- ly presided over by Dr.JavedIqbal Head Department of Botany while vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Jai Mala. Following students also spoke on the occasion by giv- ing a message to the society through Speech and Play viz, Shweta , Samiksha, Saima, Tahira , Tanveer , Jasvinder, Shiwali, Amit, Priya, Sehrish, Deepika, Altaf , Ujalla, Dherraj , Nighat etc on International Women's Day. While concluding Principal Amandeep Anand of Tariq College of Education said that we do not give rights of women from ourself but the women deserve it. NOWSHERA: Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan Nowshera (DJJS) today organised a spiritual programme on the occasion of International Women's Day in which the Disciple of Shri Ashutosh Ji Sadhvi Oma Bharti in her address to the big religious gathering said that women were highly honoured during the Vedic period. While Bharti appealed to the masses to save the girl child, she also advised spiritual awareness among the women folk. STATE TIMES NEWSREASI: To mark InternationalWomen's Day, Govt DegreeCollege Dharmari organised anessay writing competition onthe topic-'Role of Women InOur Times'.

As many as 35 students par-ticipated in the essay writingcompetition in which Jamal dinof sem-6th Mohd Rafiq of sem-6th and Musharaf Hussain ofSem-4th secured first, secondand third position respectively.While interacting with the stu-dents Dr Tilak Raj Sharma,Principal of the College laidstress on the importance of gen-der sensitisation from an earlyage. Prof. Sharma said that nocountry can progress if half ofits population is facing oppres-sion and their energy is notproperly utilized.

Meanwhile, GDC Bishnahorganised a one day Inter-Collegiate Symposium and slo-gan writing competitions on theoccasion of InternationalWomen's Day,. In all, 26 stu-dents participated in the eventshailing from various collegesnamely GGM Science CollegeJammu, SPMR College ofCommerce Jammu, GCWParade, GDC Billawar, GDCSamba, GDC Bishnah, DograDegree College BariBrahmana. Prof. Kuldip SinghKoushal, Principal of theCollege was the Chief Guest onthe occasion and Prof. SureshK. Sharma, Principal of GDCBillawar was the Guest ofHonour along with Yash PaulSharma, Principal Govt. Hr.Sec. School (B) Bishnah.

The performances of the par-ticipants in both the eventswere adjudged by a jury com-prising of Prof. BhavanaJamwal, Prof. Shashi Sharmaand Prof. Suman teaching fra-ternity from different colleges.

In slogan writing competitionthe first, second and third posi-tion was bagged by HansjaSharma, Supriya Sharma bothfrom GCW Parade and ShagunThakur, whereas in the sympo-sium the first, second and thirdprizes were bagged by SupriyaSharma, Hansja Sharma both

from GCW Parade and RishavBali of GGM Science CollegeJammu. Besides this two con-solation prizes and participa-tion certificates were providedto other participants.

The programme was Co-ordinated by Dr. Seema Sudan,and the vote of thanks was pre-sented by Dr. Seema Jamwal,while the programme was com-pered by Prof. Preeti Dogra,NCC Officer of the college.

KATRA: As part of the cele-bration of InternationalWomen's Day, Shri MataVaishno Devi College ofNursing (SMVDCoN),Kakryal, organised a prelimi-nary screening camp forwomen employees of the ShrineBoard to conduct their generalhealth check up at the SpiritualGrowth Centre, Katra onThursday.

The students of theSMVDCoN conducted bloodsugar testing of the visitors tothe camp to detect diabeticcases besides conducting theirhaemoglobin estimation toidentify cases of anaemia. Theywere also advised about diets tobe taken in case of hyperten-sion, diabetes and anaemia.More than 40 women employ-ees of the Board participated inthe camp.

SMVDCoN also organised aHealth Awareness Camp forwomen at Kakryal in which thestudents and faculty of thisinstitution apprised themabout breast self examinationtechniques to detect any possi-ble ailment. Nearly 40 women

took part in this camp.These camps were organised
