to show them how to apply their culinary expertise and to share the various career opportunities. Through application and practice students learned about career opportunities in this field. Also, students in the Video Communication class practiced writing a story board to completing a script to the completion of a short film. In these classes students learn about the multitude of opportunities in the film industry. To learn more about DoDEA’s focus on College and Career Readiness, please visit the DoDEa website: http://www.dodea.edu/collegeCareerReady.

With the Winter Break approaching we know that some of you plan to depart early for holiday trips. Please plan accordingly and contact the school to let us know if you plan to take your child earlier than the 18th. This way we can ensure that teachers are notified and that students have any missed work before they leave for the two week break. It is important that students stay focused and it is our goal to keep them on track through the end of the first semester which ends January 28.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The next Naples Elementary ADHD Support Group meeting will be held next Wednesday (12/9/2015). The meeting will start at 6 pm in room 106 at Naples Elementary School.

If you need a babysitter please contact Coleen Byrnes by Monday, 629-4058 or email her at [email protected].

We have adopted the orphanage of Reparatrix Sisters' in downtown Naples, and we are asking students, parents, staff and administration to jump in with us.

Any items are welcome. But, please, no toy guns, military figurines, or liquids of any kind. And no used clothing or toys. Everything should be new.

Drop off any items you wish to donate, in the boxes located in the High School Atrium. Ms. McKenzie will also have a drop off box in her classroom (#231)

There are two pick-up dates:

(1) Tuesday, December 15, 2015

(2) Tuesday, January 5, 2016

The actual event will be held on December 16, 2015.

Make a DifferenceMs. Cristina Hall—November 2015

Mrs. Cristina Hall has been selected and being awarded for the: Naples Middle High School, “I Make A Difference Award” November 2015

Her biggest accomplishment is starting the HOSA: Future Health Professionals chapter at Naples MHS. It is the first international chapter and starting its 3rd year, here at Naples.

Mrs. Hall enjoys keeping in touch with many of our Naples HS graduates who are pursuing a health profession.

She is also sparking high interest in the health field of our current students by exposing and sponsoring them to our monthly US Naval hospital department visits.

Another BIG accomplishment is sponsoring the Bone Marrow Registration drive annually. Already, this year we have had two people who have gone through the process of donating bone marrow, and others have had specific tests done for a potential match. Mrs. Hall has registered more than 300 people.

News from GuidanceEvergreen State College (www.evergreen.edu) is a very affordable option compared to other U.S. four-year schools. International students are eligible for multiple scholarships, and any applicant with a high GPA may also be eligible for a Scholastic Achievement Award (SAA), ranging from $2000-$6000.

SAT and ACT scores are not required, but we do require English proficiency. Applicants can apply for the Fall, Winter or Spring quarter every year.

If your students are unable to visit, they can still take the virtual campus tour www.evergreen.edu/admissions/visit.htm. Please contact me with any questions, and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Matthew PeipertAssociate Director of International Student [email protected]

For families with college bound seniors:

The President announced this fall an initiative to allow students and families to apply for financial aid earlier next year -- starting in October, as the college application process gets underway, rather than in January. Moreover, students filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid https://fafsa.ed.gov (FAFSA) will be able to electronically retrieve tax information filed for an earlier year, instead of waiting until tax season to complete applications).

From the School NurseWhen should I keep my child at home?

There are three reasons to keep sick children at home:1. When your child has a

contagious or communicable disease.

2. When your child is exhibiting any of the signs or symptoms listed below or has an illness for which temporary exclusion is recommended for the health and safety of your child as well as other children.

3. When your child does not feel well enough to comfortably participate in their normal school activities.

Signs and SymptomsFever: Elevated temperature of 100 F or greater demonstrates the need to exclude the student from the school setting. Note: A fever is noted to be present at 100.4 F.Severe uncontrolled coughing or wheezing, rapid or difficult breathing; coughing lasting longer than 5-7 days.Vomiting: Two or more episodes of vomiting in the past 24 hours.

When may they return to school after being out of school with a fever? When accompanied by behavior changes or other symptoms of illness, i.e.: rash, sore throat, stomach ache/vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, head ache, ear ache. The student should be fever free (oral temperature below 99 F) without the use of fever-reducing medicines, for a complete school day (24 hours) before returning to school.
