Dear Parents and Community Members,

On Monday, we welcomed 86 new Kindergarten students to our school for their first day. To these students and their families, we extend a special welcome and wish them a long and happy association with our South School family.

Most of our new students coped very well with the introduction of ‘big school’. They waved mum, dad, aunts, grandma and grandpa off, without any hesitation. When I had the pleasure of visiting each classroom, every child was happy and comfortable in their new environment. What was more exciting was having the privilege of presenting every new student with a library bag and a book to remember their first day of kindergarten.

Congratulations to parents for the preparations you have made over the last six months to get your children to this point. I also would like to thank and congratulate our Kindergarten team lead by Mrs McGowan for their efforts to ensure the children remain happy and comfortable at school. Kindergarten students will spend the next few weeks getting to know their new environment, establishing routines and making new friends.

It has been a pleasure to also welcome to our school 41 new families whose children began at Gunnedah South Public School from K-6. My staff and I, will make it our top priority to ensure your children feel settled and happy in their new school too. To this end we have placed each child with a buddy from their class to help show the children around. If you are unsure of any procedures please don’t hesitate to see your child’s teacher or contact the school office.

Swimming Carnival

Wow! What an amazing day. I would like to thank all parents and staff who assisted and supported on the day.

A personal highlight for me was the novelty races. A massive thank you to all staff who supported all students who wanted to participate in all events no matter ability. Well done!

P&C Meeting The February meeting of the P&C will be held on Tuesday 12 February 2019 starting at 7:00pm in the staffroom. All parents are invited.

School Hats A reminder that we have a No Hat Play Under The Cola policy. Please ensure your child has their hat each day and this needs to be worn during morning, recess and lunch time play. Thanks.

School Newsletters Included in our newsletter next week a note we will attached about your preferred method for receiving newsletters. Newsletters will be going home each Friday.

School Contributions In the following weeks you will receive an invoice for planned excursions/incursions, sporting activities and general contributions. You may pay with cash, cheque, EFTPOS or online payment. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to call our office.

Food Unfortunately we do not offer any refrigeration for student food. In Summer, I strongly urge all parents to ensure ice bricks or frozen poppers are used to keep food cool.

Skoolbag App Our Skoolbag App has been updated. Please take the time to have a look at the new app as all notes are now uploaded into this app . We use this daily as a means of updating and reminding you of events and happenings.

Finally, thank you to all families, students and staff for a fantastic first full week of school.

Have a fantastic Weekend,

Kindest regrads,

Pete B.

Yarn Up

with

Baylee & Jack…

Year 6 started the school year designing an Acknowledgement of Country for

their classrooms. Students discussed the importance of an Acknowledgement

and the difference between this and a Welcome to Country.

Our classes, 6F, 6T and 6W can’t wait to share these at our whole school

assemblies.

A fantastic day was had by all at our Annual Swimming Carnival this week. Students and teachers came dressed in their house colours ready to enjoy a great day at the newly refurbished Gunnedah Memorial Pool.

Throughout the carnival, it was great to see the team spirit come to life as students cheered on their fellow team mates, in the competitive races and during the fun filled novelty events. Even some of the teachers and Mr B jumped at the chance to cool off!

A massive thank you to all of the parent volunteers who donated their time throughout the day. Without the support of our amazing families these events would not be possible.

Thanks must also go to the amazing teachers at Gunnedah South who ensured that every student had a fabulous day, making memories, that were beautifully captured by our very talented photographer, Mrs Reynolds.

Ribbons were handed out for the competitive races at school on Wednesday and champion trophies and runner up medallions will be handed out at the Whole School Assembly in Week 3.

Permission notes will be coming home soon for those students who qualified for the Zone Carnival, which is due to be held on Friday 22nd February.
