Audiences will be provided with elegant performances featuring romance, as well as a story of two “experienced” beggars teaching a poor scholar how to beg. The opera will be performed by Kunqu Opera artist Zhang Jun who has given more than 300 lectures in universities at home and abroad. He pioneered in reinterpreting Kunqu works with different artists including Oscar-winning composer Tan Dun, violinist Charlie Siem and jazz master Bobby McFerrin, and thus expanded the audience of the traditional art. It’s a joint effort between Lu Xun museums in Shanghai and Beijing. The exhibition chronicles the “reading life of Lu Xun” from his teenage years to being a profes- sional writer and editor. More than 300 pictures and 60 sets of books, manuscripts and letters of Lu are on display at Shanghai’s Lu Xun Museum. Records at the exhibition show Lu was an ardent reader. He had a personal collec- tion of more than 13,000 books, read more than 4,000 books and left more than 9,000 notebooks of reading notes. Twenty-five artists, architects and designers have spent half a year to revive the values of these stage props for the exhibition “Eye of the World, Jackie Chan Treasures.” The show features more than 40 artworks made of recycled items used in Chan’s movies, including decorations, spotlights, camera lenses and other equipment. One highlight shows two special-effect stages simulating “a mountain of swords” and the “sea of fire” where visitors can feel the excit- ing experiences of stunt men in Chan’s movies. The “mountain” and “sea” are made of wasted plastic bottles and sponges. Visitors are invited to create their own artworks with abandoned items such as buttons and plastic bottles at the end of the exhibition. Different from his peers, Amer has had an amazing life journey. Born in 1960 in Palestine, Amer fled his coun- try due to political strife and bombings. In 1979, he arrived in China and studied construction engineering at Shanghai Tongji University. After staying in the city for nine years, Amer went to Belgium and took up residency there. However, he still kept close contact with China. His experiences in Southeast Asia and Europe have unwittingly nurtured his desire to paint an art world in fluorescent colors. Through his paintings, Amer shares his thoughts, emotions, sensitivities and reflec- tions about the world. His paintings can be painful but colorful, dynamic but peaceful, realistic but abstract. Besides art, Amer is a linguist and speaks four foreign languages. A SOLO exhibition titled “A Journey” featur-ing works of Belgian artist Burhan Amer is currently underway at Chen Ji Art Museum.

Different from his peers, Amer has had an amazing life journey.

Born in 1960 in Palestine, Amer fled his coun-try due to political strife and bombings.
