Farewell Year 11
We bid a fond farewell to our current Year 11 students this week
and wish them all the best with their forthcoming exams. The
students enjoyed a traditional send off together with staff. They
were treated to pizza and sunshine in the outside social space
whilst signing their uniform shirts which has become a rite of
passage. We welcomed families to join the Year 11 Final
Assembly which was held this morning in the Sports Hall.
Year 11 Final Assembly
Thank you all for coming to the final assembly today. I know that many families were unable to come due to work commitments but it was lovely to see so many of you today. What a special occasion. I would like to thank Amit Grewal for his wonderful, professional piano playing. I have never heard ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ sound so wonderful. He is so talented. Thank you also to our Sports Prefects Ruby Penney, Adam Stephenson, Alistair Highmoor and Ben Leach for their fantastic reflection on the time at Teddington School, plus a great video too. We enjoyed an excellent rendition of ‘I see Fire’ from Daniel Hyde on guitar, Dermot Fowler on bass and Elise Busset singing her heart out. The Review of Teddington was written and excellently delivered by Max Cotton Head of Year Prefect. He helped us to reflect on the special times we have had over the five years. Sophie Edgington’s performance of ‘Starting Over, Starting Now’ was tremendous. As was the performance of ‘In My Life’, one of my favourite Beatles tracks, from the very talented Taya Conner and Demi Pearce. Ms Pollard’s compilation video was a brilliant reflection on some of our very happy times together. To really sum up this remarkable year group however is their desire to have fun and dance. Thank you to the Year 11 Dance group with their Bollywood style extravaganza. How could I end without thanking the flash mob for their great performance of ‘Don’t Stop Believing’. Who knew you had such incredible singers amongst us! Lastly a special thanks to Jack Cummings and Morgan Evans for their technical support today. We would not have had a show without them. So for the time being I sign off and say thank you to all of you for the wonderful support and comments from today. Ms A Morozgalska Head of Year 11

Calshot Revision Weekend
The Calshot Revision Weekend was a success in giving invited students a chance to practise the key
skills in English and Maths intensively in small groups. Students were able to further challenge
themselves with climbing and other outdoor activities. All students worked very hard and also
managed to enjoy themselves. A rewarding weekend.
Sixth Form News
Year 13 We are looking forward to the final weeks of exam preparation with Year 13 and to starting their partial study leave with the Leavers’ Tea on Wednesday 24 May. We will also be celebrating the end of exams at the Graduation Ball on Thursday 29 June at The Park Hotel. If any Year 13s have not made their payment through ParentPay, they can drop the cash or cheque (payable to Teddington School) to Mrs Carroll. Year 12 Year 12 have started partial study leave and we wish them well when AS exams start next week. We have emailed the Employer’s Report Form, and a copy is on the school website, to be completed at the end of work experience and handed to Mrs Carroll on Monday 26 June when Year 12 return for A level lessons. Year 11 We wish Year 11 well for their GCSEs and will be writing in the next few weeks about arrangements for GCSE Results Day and enrolment in Sixth Form. Information will be sent via UCAS Progress, email and the school newsletter. Hampton High and Twickenham Academy Visit We were happy to welcome prospective Sixth Form students from Hampton High and Twickenham Academy who visited Teddington School to see the benefits of a school based Sixth Form. They were given a comprehensive tour of the facilities and had the opportunity to ask questions. We enjoyed the opportunity to promote the Sixth Form.

Dr Hui Presents Discovery: The Unseen Obvious
The act of discovery is vital to much of human culture, but the way to make discoveries is seldom taught. Join Dr Hui on Tuesday 13 June at 7.00pm at a public evening lecture in the beautiful Georgian venue at Hampton Court House School’s ‘Form Seven’. Using his own discoveries and those of others, he will attempt to prove that anyone is able to make discoveries, as long as they have curiosity, passion and perseverance. The evening is £10, free for under-18s. More information and tickets are available at http://www.formseven.co.uk/discovery/.
Election of Parent Governors The Governing Body will soon be asking you to vote for two parent governors from the parent community at Teddington School to join our team. Parent governors are very valuable members of our Governing Body. We rely on them to communicate parent views and help us decide what is best for all our students.
You DO NOT need to be an expert in education to be an effective governor
You DO have to have a long-term commitment to our school and its wider community
SUPPORT and TRAINING are available to help you to get to grips with the role
Besides parents, the Governing Body includes the Headteacher, members of staff, and people from the local community. The Governing Body helps to decide the key priorities for the school, helps plan to achieve them, and then checks whether the actions taken have had the desired impact. The Governing Body also plays an important role in deciding how the school’s budget should be spent, and it helps to appoint our staff. The full Governing Body and each of its sub committees meet three times each academic year. Please consider taking on the job, or suggesting someone who will do it well. We need committed parent governors, people who really want to make a positive difference to the life chances of our children. If you would like to know a little more about becoming a parent governor please visit https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/governors-handbook--3 or contact the Chair of Governors,
Jen Johnson via [email protected] with any questions.

Teddington School PTA Update
Keep up with the latest PTA news and events— follow us on Twitter @teddschPTA or Facebook
Teddington School PTA Plant Sale This was another great event, continuing the tradition of the sale. Once again the effort from all the volunteers has made a welcome addition to the PTA funds of almost £3000 for the benefit of our children. The event was well attended and all the plants have found a new home. Thanks must go to all the volunteers who delivered leaflets, advertised the event, baked cakes and helped on the day selling refreshments and plants. The PTA received donations from Miles and Bird, Sainsbury’s and Costa Coffee for the event. A special thanks to those who came and bought the plants - good luck with your purchases and best wishes for a summer full of flower power.
Committee Opportunities The PTA committee has now appointed a new Treasurer, Year 9 parent Louise Lawson. There is still a request for a new Secretary. The committee only meets once a term and these meetings last up to one hour. Just want to help? Email us and we can offer suggestions [email protected] or keep your details on file for future events.
