Citrus

Lemons: The Central Valley crop is in full production and sizing is large, peaking 95s/115s/140s. Ventura crop continues with good production. This region remains peaking on 140s and smaller fruit.

Oranges: We are seeing peak sizing of 56s/72s/88s. Percentage of 113s/138s continue to fall off in pack outs. The market remains active on 113s/138s both grades. Larger sizes are peaking for the balance of the navel season. Small fruit will be in short supply all season.

Crop Update

Apples & Pears

Avocados

Asparagus

Bell Peppers

Berries

Broccoli & Cauliflower

The apple market is steady with moderate demand and good quality. Pears have good quality and availability out of the Washington and Offshore markets.

Mexico supplies continue with lower yields on large sized fruit out of MX as we approach the end of their season. California continues with steady volume. Quality is good. Markets are steady.

Supplies from Mexico and California continue with limited supplies due to AD’s for Mother’s day. Overall quality is good and markets are higher.

Green bell supplies finish out of MX as we approach the end of their season. Product continues out of Coachella. Red and Yellowbells volume is limited out of mainland MX. Growers have started out of Coachella, but supplies remain very limited. Markets are active on all bells.

Broccoli supplies are abundant from all growing regions. The quality we are seeing is full bunches, decent crown size, minimal yellowing or dehydration.

Cauliflower supplies are decreasing as the cooler temperatures in the Salinas Valley and Santa Maria are slowing growth rates. Quality remains really nice with minimal bruising/brow and spotting.

Raspberry and Blackberry supplies overall are limited as MX is past peak and CA fruit volume is gradually increasing weekly; quality on both have been good with occasional bleeding and/or light color.

Strawberry supply is good; plenty of fruit as all growing areas are producing good fruit.

Blueberry supply continues to be steady.

FRESH FACTSYour Weekly Market Update!

Leaf Lettuce & Iceberg100% California Product

Potatoes

Squash

Tomatoes

Burbank season is in full swing. Demand is good on 60-80ct raising the price. Quality is good on all count sizes. California season is underway for colored potatoes, and the quality on all colors is good with little to no issues being reported. Idaho has good supplies on red and gold potatoes. Supplies are expected to last until the end of the month.

Supplies continue to be tight out of Mainland Mexico. Santa Maria is expected to start mid may on squash. Markets are active and quality is good.

Tomato supplies are starting to wind down out of mainland Mexico as we look to start the normal transition back into California and Baja. California is slated to start production of gas greens mid-June and Baja has already start on the vine ripes and romas. Quality remain good out of Mexico and prices are reasonable. Grape/Cherry tomatoes out of mainland MX are plentiful and should stay that way through May.

Iceberg Lettuce: This market is in a demand exceeds supply situation. Expect this to continue through next week as well. This market is very active. Production in Salinas has seen defects like misshapen heads, mechanical and slight cracking but the overall quality is good. Weights on palletized are averaging 43-48 pounds with multiple suppliers. Santa Maria will have light availability, but some product will be available. Multiple shippers will be called upon to meet market demand.

Leaf Lettuce: This market is unusual. There are plenty of supplies of romaine as well as romaine hearts. Excellent competitive pricing is available. Green and red leaf, as well as butter, however, are active, especially green leaf. There will light availability on this commodity for the entire week, minimum. Production in Santa Maria continues to be minimal but is helping somewhat to offset the demand for Salinas product. Slight mechanical, discoloration and a little twisting has been reported, but the overall quality has been reported to be good. Weights are favorable on romaine as well as all leaf items
