Das Konzept schien Mitte der Siebziger halsbrecherisch: Man reiht sich nicht bei den Krautrockern wie Can, Kraftwerk oder Amon Düül ein, sondern versucht die starken Staaten-Rocker mit ihren ureigenen heißen Waffen zu schlagen. Bluesig-harte Arrangements, Steely-Dan-Jazz-Finesse inklusive, starke Lead-Vocals - das Ganze nicht nur mit Beach-Boys-blassmachenden Chören, sondern auch noch beim Wilson-Brüder-Intimus Jim Guercioin Colorado realisiert. Der Wahlhamburger Schotte James Hopkins-Harrison († 1991) und der Berliner Hanseat Alex Conti (ex-Atlantis) waren die Lake-Köpfe - und in dem neuesten Band-Update sind beide wieder da. Conti als Bandleader seit 2003 wieder auf der Lake-Straße, mit brandneuem Album FREEDOM, das den Originalsänger Hopkins-Harrison aus Demo-Tiefen in brandheißes Songgewand holt. Schotten sangen bei Lake immer: Lloyd Anderson begeistert seit zwei Jahren, führt die Band durch Latin und feinste Balladen. Mit Conti, Keyboarder Jens Skwirblies und Rhythmus-Tandem Mickie Stickdorn und Holger Trull strotzt FREEDOM auch mit hartem Rock - würde man sonst wie einst in den Seventieswieder im Schlepptau von Lynyrd Skynyrd touren?

The concept seemed daring for a German band in the Seventies: You didn´t join the Kraut rockes like Can, Kraftwerk or Amon Düül. Instead, you tried to beat the strong Stateside rockers on their very own, damn hot battleground. Bluesy, hard-hitting arrangements, SteelyDan type jazzy refinement included, strong lead vocals - and the whole thing not only topped with harmonies making conemporary Beach Boys pale, but put on tape with the Wilson Brothers´ blood brother Jim Guercio in Colorado. The Hamburg based Scots expatriate James Hopkins Har-rison († 1991) and the Berlin born Hanse axeman Alex Conti (ex Atlantis) were Lake´s leaders - and in the latest Lake update, they´re both kind of back. Conti as bandleader put Lake back on the road in 2003, with a brand new album FREEDOM that gets original singer Hopkins Harrison from the depths of a demo onto a sizzling song structure. Scotsmen have always been sínging for Lake: Lloyd Anderson has impressed for two years now, and he pushes the band through Latin and finest ballads. With Conti, keyboard wizard Jens Skwirblies and the rhythm tandem of Mickie Stickdorn and Holger Trull, FREEDOM oozes hard rock sounds as well - how else would the band have got away with touring alongside Lynyrd Skynyrd again - just like the Seventies?

In den Album-Charts Deutschland konnten sich 3 Alben von Lake platzieren. Allerdings erreichte kein Album die Top 10. Das erfolgreichste Album von Lake in den Album-Charts Deutschland war “Lake 2”.
