Actually, all of those characters havebeen rolled into one: Liv, the Seattle-based morgue employee and member ofthe undead who assumes the lives of de-ceasad people ... by consuming theirbrains. The feast is nearing its end, though, since The CW’s comic-book-in-spired “iZombie” begins its fifth and finalseason Thursday, May 2.“We’re all kind of pinching ourselvesthat we got five seasons of a show weloved, and that everybody got along,”says pleasant New Zealand nativeMcIver. “It certainly has provided itsshare of challenges. It can be quite intim-idating to play Liv and all the things she’sthrown into, but at the same time, it’swhat has kept the show so fresh and alive. It’s been a dream job, really.”In her bid “to keep Liv grounded,”McIver credits executive producers RobThomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright(“Veronica Mars”) and the “iZombie”creative team with also helping her keepLiv “someone you actually care aboutamidst the novelty. The writers are sobrilliant, their wonderful imaginationshave done a lot to help me, but I was con-cerned about finding the detail and nu-

ance between (Liv’s alter egos). It’s beentricky, but I think we’ve pulled it off.”One side effect of making “iZombie,”McIver notes, is that she’s “incredibly re-spectful of people who work in morguesand deal with autopsies. Maybe I’m sortof (queasy) when I see a liver or a spleensitting in a dish, but I’ve seen enough ofthose now to make myself bizarrely com-fortable with it.”Seen previously on “Once Upon aTime” (as Tinker Bell) and “Masters ofSex,” McIver also has been comfortablewith many of Liv’s personalities, makingher hard-pressed to name favorites. “It’skind of like choosing favorite children,”she reasons. “I feel guilty, because all thewriters have done so much to bring themto life. During this last season, I get toplay a very codependent salsa dancer —and with any nod toward the dance direc-tion, I feel like I’m five years old again. That was a lot of fun.”Much like Liv may never die, “iZom-bie” could have future life if McIver hasany say. “Who knows? Down the line, I’dbe the first to jump in for a spinoff film.In this final season, you see that the othercharacters also are able to throw their hatsin the ring, so to speak. You start thinkingof the combinations and dynamics youcan put up. It’s a clever device, and I’mhappy that we’ve been able to extend it somuch.”’ ”
Rose McIver stars in the final season of“iZombie” starting Thursday on theCW.Page 2 TV Talk/Week of April 27- May 3, 2019 917-232-5501

Mayor Davis Announces Progress for Ferry Plans andSchools in State of the City Speech
Before an audience of local business people, municipal officials, and others, Mayor JimmyDavis delivered Bayonne’s annual State of the City address on April 16. Speaking at a dinnersponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Davis affirmed that ferry service for Bayonneremains “a top priority.” He said that a Bayonne-to-New York ferry will be in operation nextyear for daily commuters. Making use of a $650,000 federal grant, Mayor Davis announcedthat Bayonne will use a car ferry to serve as the docking and ticketing facility for the new com-muter boat.
After years of being underfunded by the State of New Jersey, Mayor Davis said, the Bayonneschool system is receiving additional millions of state dollars, and will be offering full-day pre-Kindergarten classes for four-year-olds this autumn.
Mayor Davis discussed recent construction and development in the community. He toutedthe completion of the 19 East apartment complex (East 19th Street) and the Hudson Flatsat 14th St. and Broadway. He also mentioned buildings under construction on Broadway,Avenue E, and the former Military Ocean Terminal. The local chief executive pointed outthat we have new restaurants, retail stores, and service businesses “opening virtually everyweek” in Bayonne. As a result of these openings, he said, “I do enjoy and take pride in beingcalled ‘the ribbon-cutting mayor.’” Mayor Davis said that the recent opening of the Costcowholesale store was the result of “vision, planning, and hard work.” Summarizing the de-velopment trends, Mayor Davis said, “Bayonne is the next new,” and “we are finally back onthe map.”
He thanked the City Council for exhibiting “political courage” and doing “the right thing”when they voted for tax incentives for developers.
Discussing the City of Bayonne’s finances, Mayor Davis stated that, when he took office in2014, there was an operating budget deficit of $25 million. He said that he has reduced thatfigure to $18.5 million, and that Bayonne is moving towards “fiscal solvency and responsibility.”
Mayor Davis announced that he has been discussing new ideas forthe Bayonne public schools with the Bayonne Board of Education. Those ideas include exploring middle schools, developing a plan to re-organize the current neighborhood school districts, and constructingnew school buildings for the community. He said that some of the pub-lic school buildings are over 100 years old, and that it was time to stopputting “Band-Aids” on old schools.
On quality-of-life issues, Mayor Davis pointed to recent analysis thatshow Bayonne as the seventh safest city in New Jersey and the twenty-fourth safest city in the country. He said that his Administration’s program of park improve-ments would continue throughout Bayonne. The reconstructed Neil DeSena Park at 52ndStreet and Avenue C will re-open soon, he announced.
Mayor Davis thanked Recreation Supervisor Pete Amadeo for developing programs for chil-dren and adults with special needs. He pointed in particular to the Buddy Baseball programas proof that the Bayonne “community cares for its own.” With 111 participants, BuddyBaseball will launch its season with an opening day parade on May 4, Mayor Davis said. Heindicated that the arts have grown in Bayonne in recent years. He pointed to such programsas new murals, utility box art, and concerts at the Bayonne Community Museum. MayorDavis also cited the Hometown Fair, the Bergen Point Festival, and the Food Truck Festivalas examples of growing opportunities to have fun in Bayonne.
Mayor Davis said, “There is nothing better than standing here as Mayor of the City of Bay-onne during its 150th anniversary.” After noting that Bayonne has experienced “many upsand downs” during its history, he pointed to one constant: the belief that Bayonne has “abright future ahead.”
Predicting that today’s Bayonne children will have “great memories” of growing up in Bay-onne, Mayor Davis called our community “a vibrant, active, electrifying city.” He concludedby saying that he would continue working to make Bayonne “the best city in the world.”

HOLLYWOODBy Tony RizzoHOLLYWOOD — Matt Damon has completed “Fordv. Ferrari,” with Christian Bale (for Nov. 15 release) andhas turned his attention to being executive producer forthe Netflix six-episode comedy-anthology series “GreenBeret’s Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse,” starring DarilFannin and Shawn Vance, and the Showtime psycho-logical horror film “City on a Hill,” starring Kevin Bacon.Bacon has just completed filming “You Should HaveLeft,” with Amanda Seyfried.
***With “Cats” and “Wicked” headed forthe big screen, Tristar Pictures has an-nounced its remake of the 1950 MGMmusical “Guys & Dolls,” which starredMarlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, JeanSimmons (of “Spartacus” not “Kiss”)and Vivian Blaine. The original 1950Broadway show won five Tony Awardsand the 1992 revival, with Nathan Lane, was a big hit. Trouble is, the plotline wasalready dated when they made the1955 film, and where will they ever find stars of the cal-iber of the original? Also getting a reboot is “Fantasy Island,” with MichaelPena assuming the Ricardo Montalban role of “Mr.Rourke.” Also on board are “Designated Survivor’s”Maggie Q, “Pretty Little Liars’” Lucy Hall and “Reign’s”Prince Henri, Nick Slater.
***TV legend Carol Burnett is joining forces with Tina Fey,Eric Gurian and Steven Rogers to co-produce a film ofher 2013 bestselling book, “Carrie And Me: A Mother-
Daughter Love Story.” Carol once introduced me to Car-rie, and she was sweet, bright and very talented. Sheovercame an addiction to drugs only to succumb to can-cer in 2002 at age 38.Zac Efron, fresh from playing serial killer Jeffrey Dahmerin Netflix’s “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile,”is getting a change of pace in the animated reboot of theScooby-Doo feature film, “Scoob,” with Efron as thevoice of Fred, Amanda Seyfried as Daphne, Will Forteas Shaggy and Gina Rodriguez as Velma, due May 2020.Veteran voice actor Frank Welker will be Scooby-Doo.
***Former series stars making pilots toreturn to series on ABC TV are “Par-enthood’s” Dax Shepard and “BostonLegal’s” Lake Bell in “Bless theMess”; “Veeps” Matt Walsh, “Reba’s”JoAnna Garcia and “Ugly Betty’s”Vanessa Williams in “Happy Acci-dent”; and “Married With Children’s”Katey Sagal in “Nana.” “Dr. Ken” KenJeong will become “The Emperor ofMalibu,” while “Grey’s Anatomy’s”Katherine Heigl takes on “Our
House.” Meanwhile, now that Rami Malek is a best-actorOscar winner for “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the USANetwork has given his “Mr. Robot” the pink slip.
***Another series becoming a feature film is “Dead-wood,” which ran on HBO from 2004-06 and wasnominated for 28 Emmy awards, winning eight. Thestory reunites Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, BradDourif and Gerald McRaney 10 years after the seriesended. Guess it wasn’t such “Deadwood” after all!
