And actually a lot of peoplewho have seen the show don’t really rec-ognize me in it because of the gray wig.”Seymour joins the Chuck Lorre-createdcomedy, which begins streaming Friday,Oct. 25, in the role of Madelyn, a recentwidow who reconnects with her old flamefrom 50 years ago, Norman (Alan Arkin),the testy widowed agent of aging thes-pian-turned-acting coach Sandy Komin-sky (Douglas).Sandy also has someone re-entering hislife, French ex-spouse Gabrielle (Jacque-line Bisset, “Dancing on the Edge”), whostill delights in pushing his buttons, evenas his relationship with his current loveinterest Lisa (Nancy Travis) moves for-ward. Jane Seymour joins ‘The KominskyMethod’ for Season 2 of Netflix comedy

By George DickieViewers may find themselves not rec-ognizing ever-youthful-looking 68-year-old actress Jane Seymour under a wig oflong gray hair in Season 2 of Netflix’s“The Kominsky Method.” Evidently, herco-star, longtime friend and ex-neighborMichael Douglas didn’t.

But his intense anger to-ward her is something Madelyn won’t tol-erate.“Madelyn had a very tempestuous mar-riage and her husband would get veryangry,” Seymour explains. “And she justsays it’s the one thing she can’t take isthat kind of anger. And she realizes thatlife is too short and if he’s going to beangry or behave a certain way, especiallytowards his daughter, that she can’t han-dle it.”As for Seymour and Arkin, they had nosuch problems. Though they had neverworked together before, Seymour reportstheir chemistry was immediate but sheadds that Arkin needed to resolve oneissue before filming began.“He was very concerned because he wasgoing to be playing love scenes ... and hewanted his wife to be comfortable withit,” Seymour says. “So one of the firstthings that happened was we all went outfor a lovely brunch and kind of got toknow one another. And I thought that wasso sweet. ...“But he is fantastic. He’s great to workwith and always right there and his deliv-ery is impeccable. It was just a joy.”

Rating HHHHH

TV PIPELINE By Jay Bobbin

Q: I’ve been looking for Steve Harvey’s talk showand can’t find it. Where is it? — Monica Hale, via e-mailA: It’s gone. Effectively, what happened was thatKelly Clarkson’s new series — which has beengetting some of the most significant ratings anysyndicated daytime show has won in a while —took over the time period Harveyhad occupied, at least on NBC’sown owned-and-operated sta-tions. NBC also produced Har-vey’s talk show and nowproduces Clarkson’s, so the writ-ing was pretty much on the wall,as even Harvey himself acknowl-edged before his cancellation be-came official.Of course, Harvey still remains aforce in syndication via “FamilyFeud” and also a prominent en-tertainment figure through his many other ven-tures. Lately, he’s added to those an equity stakein the ownership of the cable networks HDNetMovies and AXS TV.Q: I was surprised to see Kyle MacLachlan onthe new show “Carol’s Second Act.” Has he donemuch comedy? — Kim Barrett, via e-mailA: “Sex and the City” fans wouldn’t take long toanswer that, since the actor had a notable runon that sitcom as Trey, Charlotte’s (Kristin

Davis) husband before she ultimately ended upwith Harry (Evan Handler). MacLachlan alsomade multiple appearances on “How I Met YourMother” as The Captain, but some also may viewhis “Twin Peaks” and “Desperate Housewives”roles as amusing, though it admittedly was a dryform of humor he was conveying in those cases. And movie-wise, MacLachlan got some laughsas the scheming Cliff Vandercave in the 1994

live-action version of “The Flint-stones.”Q:With “The Brady Bunch” nowin its 50th-anniverary year, someone told me that GeneHackman almost was cast asMike Brady instead of RobertReed. Is that true? — Matt Ames,Umatilla, Fla.A: Series creator and executiveproducer Sherwood Schwartzfirst sought the then pre-Oscar-winning Hackman for the part,

which also was pursued by Jeffrey Hunter (leg-endary to “Star Trek” fans as Captain Christo-pher Pike in that show’s original pilot) beforeReed was cast.Similarly, Joyce Bulifant was considered first forthe role of Carol Brady before it went to FlorenceHenderson. Bulifant would make a notable TVmark later as Murray Slaughter’s (GavinMacLeod) wife Marie on “The Mary Tyler MooreShow.”

By Jay BobbinWhen his hometown beckons, JimmyKimmel has just the solution: He takes hisshow there.

For the fifth time, the ABC late-nighthost returns to Brooklyn, N.Y., for a weekof “Jimmy Kimmel Live” episodes start-ing Monday, Oct. 21. The borough be-comes a landscape for comedy bits —some undoubtedly featuring sidekickGuillermo Rodriguez — but Kimmel alsowill use his traditional New York base, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, forsuch basic elements as his nightly mono-logue and celebrity interviews.“We love traveling,” Kimmel main-tains. “It’s fun for us. As a staff, it’s veryexpensive, so there are a lot of places wewould like to go that we’re unable to goto. But I’d love to go to Chicago. I’d loveto go to Miami.”The latest trip back East comes early inKimmel’s new three-year deal to remainwith ABC. He reflects, “I was seriouslyconsidering ... I don’t know if you wouldsay it was retirement, because I would al-ways do something, but I don’t know thatI would host anything. I really do like(the current ABC executives), and theycame in with (an offer where) I felt ap-preciated, and that is important even ifyou have a job that people think of asglamorous.“You still want to feel like your com-

pany is behind you, and I do,” adds Kim-mel, “and that was a big part of it. Also, alot of my relatives would be unemployedif I quit this job.”Kimmel also has other ABC plans in-cluding — in December — another edi-tion of the “Live in Front of a StudioAudience” franchise that restagesepisodes of classic Norman Lear sitcoms. The first recently earned an Emmy Awardfor outstanding variety special (live),making Kimmel’s fellow producer Learthe oldest Emmy winner in history.Explaining why he spearheaded “StudioAudience,” Kimmel says, “I’ve watcheda lot of episodes of ‘All in the Family’ andof ‘The Jeffersons,’ and it seems like therhythm of those shows was more like aplay in that it wasn’t joke, joke, joke, joke. It was more of an evolution through-out the half-hour. Maybe the first fiveminutes of the show, there really weren’tany laughs ... but by Minute 20, ArchieBunker had been worked up into such alather.”Kimmel also is developing, along with“Survivor” and “The Voice” producerMark Burnett, an ABC game show called“Generation Gap.” One thing he won’tdo, though, is run for office despite histackling political and social issues on“Jimmy Kimmel Live.” He muses, “Ican’t believe anybody is completely seri-ous” about his making such a bid. “Iguess you just don’t know me that well.”

Jimmy Kimmel returns to Brooklyn,N.Y., for a week of “Jimmy KimmelLive” shows starting Monday on ABC.

Channel celebrate Halloween withsome boo!-tiful treat ideas

Unless you’ve been stranded on a South Pacific island a la TomHanks in “Cast Away,” you’re probably well aware by now that Hal-loween comes next week.To get you in the proper state of culinary mind, Food Network andCooking Channel have concocted a schedule rife with ideas for whatto prepare and serve on or around the holiday. So sit back, turn onthe TV and take in the tips, tricks and recipes that their experts haveto offer.Probably the most noteworthy entry on this week’s schedule comesup Monday, Oct. 21, on Cooking, when Carla Hall hosts the hourlongspecial “Trick or Eat,” in which the chef and author ventures to stopsin Atlanta, New Orleans and Salem, Mass., to sample such tricked-out treats as zombie burgers, Franken-chops and freak shakes. Hardto say “boo!” to these options. Also in the holiday mood is Guy Fieri, who on his Saturday, Oct. 26,episode of Food’s “Guy’s Ranch Kitchen,” invites in Amanda Freitagto prepare a red hot blood orange margarita with spicy cinnamonsyrup and smoked, deep-fried chicken wings coated in hot sauce andpomegranate molasses; Marc Murphy to make orange-and-blackcaviar-covered deviled eggs and a cheesy risotto served in an acornsquash; and Christian Petroni for a tenderoni pizza with hot honeyand a fire-roasted brococolini sprinkled with sweet and tart preservedlemon. Halloween eats have never been so upscale. Also that afternoon on Food, Trisha Yearwood of “Trisha’s SouthernKitchen” is taking on a Roaring Twenties look for her Ghoulish GatsbyParty, during which she will serve up such offerings as a festive fruit

gelatin mold, crunchyfried olives, shrimpcocktail with dippingsauces, and spiderweb deviled eggs, allwashed down with anapple champagnecocktail suitable fortoasting. Cheers! If competition showsare your thing, FoodNetwork has you cov-ered, starting withMonday’s penultimateepisode of “HalloweenBaking Champi-onship,” in which thefour remaining bakersare tasked with creat-ing desserts with agrave-robber themeand sculpting a marbled tomb cake.On the Sunday, Oct. 20, edition of “Halloween Wars,” the teams ofthree must create displays that show how holiday mascots like Santaand the Easter Bunny do trick-or-treating, with actor Jackson Rath-bone (the “Twilight” movies) serving as a guest judge alongside reg-ulars Shinmin Li and Todd Tucker. And immediately following on “Haunted Gingerbread Showdown,”“The Mummy’s Ancient Curse” is in effect as host Clinton Kelly chal-lenges three gingerbread artists to tell a story of mummies run amok.Without the odor, obviously.
