Moore River Weight Watchers Members celebrated the graduation of two members with lunch at Willowbrook on 27th August. A great day was had by all.

Congratulations to Anne Stroud and Heather Brine on reaching their goal weight.

This year has seen four members graduate at our club so we must be doing something right.

Welcome to our newest members Maggie and Ellen.

Our next big event is our

Fashion Parade on Wednesday 10th October at Guilderton Community Hall Starting at 10.30am. Entrance fee $2.

Lareema Fashions of East Bullsbrook will be providing some ter r ific clothes for our models to wear and for guests to buy. Morning Tea and Light lunches will be available to purchase along with raffles, lucky number boards and spot prizes. Once again all money raised will be donated to Wheelchairs for Kids along with small knee rugs, teddies and tool bags which have been made by members and friends. Our March Fashion Parade raised $700 and we are hoping to raise a similar or better amount this time. Wheelchairs for Kids is run entirely by Volunteers and there are no administration costs which means all funds donated go to the making of Wheelchairs.

We invite everyone to come along, join in the fun, support a very worthy charity

and enjoy the wonderful fashions on parade.

Anne and Heather with their fellow graduates Lou and Judy who graduated earlier this year.

Woodridge Spring Fair Meeting The meeting for the Spring Fair went very well in September. Food is to be supplied by Sovereign Hill and Redfield Park Associations. Egg and Bacon rolls from 8am onwards!!!! Kebabs for lunch! Get in touch with your Association if you can help. Woodridge Association will run the bar and the kitchen with tea, coffee and cakes. Debbie and Margaret are looking for volunteers to make cakes and do an hour in the kitchen . Please phone 9577 1885 or 9577 1814 if you can help with either. Playgroup will be doing the Showbags and we are all hoping they can do strawberries dipped in chocolate!!! Samantha Mountford will be doing face painting. We will be entertained by adult Belly Dancers, and Roxanne’s young dancers will amaze us once more. Please phone 9577 1498 if you can man either the Ambulance or the Fire Truck on November 11th. You will need to be in uniform and try to recruit new volunteers. If we get enough we can roster you for an hour each! Social Darts will be running a competition in the bar area. So enjoy a social drink and try your luck on the money wheel or the dollar stall. Big News, but not confirmed yet is that some classic cars may come for a visit. So invite your family up for the weekend, come and relax for the whole day, maybe pick up bargain or two in the auction or the swap meet and help support our local groups and volunteers.

Woodridge Community Association News

The next meeting for the WCA is on Monday October 8th 7.30pm. Members and Non Members are welcome to attend. We may have to vote on a new President as Pauline who has done such an amazing job over the past few years is retiring to enjoy herself.

Gail Hodson of Woodridge has put her hand up to be a phone co-ordinator for the Gingin West Fire Brigade. This means she could get a phone call from FESA or the Gingin Shire to call out our brigade. She then has to find a class 4 driver to drive the big truck and 2 crew. Then 2 more crew for the light tanker. If it is a big fire she must find 5 more crew for the next 6 hour shift. At present Anne Stroud and brigade secretary Margaret Browne are handling the job, they welcome Gail and are looking for one more back up. Phone 9577 1498 if you feel you could do this job. It can be in the middle of the night, you need to be able to stay calm when you find that a firefighter are not at home or cannot attend. You just have to do your best or phone back and say you cannot get a crew.

We also want to thank Shirley and Jackie Morris who have been doing this job for years and have just retired.

Another thank you to Nicky who is doing such a great job at the Woodridge recycling centre. Keep those cans coming, remember tops off for Art Centre or CMA.

Dave Stroud Captain

We have new Mr. and Mrs. Mop for the Woodridge Ambulance. A big thanks to Paul and Hazel Potthast. Thanks to retiring cleaners Judy and Roy Jackson who have moved away.

T hanks Sue Moir for the wonderful work you are doing in teaching lots of people in the community

many computer skills, with you being such a patient teacher, you make the lessons very enjoyable & rewarding . Keep the good work going.

From lots of happy older students

W ell another keep fit class has had to close through lack of support. I find it amazing that there are

not just 10 people in the whole of the Lower Coast area who want to keep fit!! Unfortunately the Fit Ball class in Guilderton on a Tuesday has stopped.

The very popular over 50’s Keep Fit on a Monday in the Woodridge Hall has been going for years and helps so many people keep on their feet and overcome injury or keep older bones and muscles keep in tune.

We now have the opportunity to combine Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates on a Thursday morning in the Woodridge Hall. The session ends with a beautiful deep relaxation. The class is popular in Gingin, so please if you can go along to the hall about 9.15am and see what it is all about. A keen keep fitter

Letters to the editor

J ane the organizer of the fundraising for Ronald McDonald House and her helpers Phyl,

Dot, Ann, Dot and Brenda were pleased to see the people who braved the very wet and windy weather and came along to support this charity at the Woodridge Swap Meet on the 26thAugust. Despite the bad weather the morning was successful and thanks must go to folk who gave donations and those who bought goods from the stall and refreshments from the kitchen.

Total made on the day was $390, applause to you all.

If you need to know more about this fundraising ring Jane on 9577 1443

The next event that funds will be raised for this same charity and the Moore River News will be at

with lots of fun trying your skill at darts A certificate and small prize will be given to a lady, man girl & boy who has hit the highest score at the end of the day. Also a table will be set up with lots of wares on it, our stall will be better than ever and every one who buys a $1 ticket is a winner. A chuck wheel will be running. Phil & Helen will be selling home made cakes. So come to the darts and bar area where the action will be. It’s always a good feeling knowing that the money made is going to worthy courses and help bring a little comfort to our own children in W A.

Crafty Patch

Every Tuesday 9am Woodridge Hall Sewing, quilting,

Scrapbooking and more

The crafty ladies have been busy this month finishing off their "Turnabout Scrap Quilts". Some have added plain borders, while others have been very creative and decorated their borders with a variety of designs. It is good to see all the different looks that have been achieved. The October outing has been decided. The ladies have organised a trip to Fremantle on the train, then lunch of Fish and Chips at one of the Seafood Restaurants. This should be a very enjoyable day.

The Crafty Patch meets each Tuesday at the Woodridge Hall between 9 - 12, so please feel free to come and join us for a "Cuppa" and see the variety of crafts being done.

And remember: A smile is a curve that can set things straight.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY FUN @ THE GRAVITY DISCOVERY CENTRE

The Gravity Discovery Centre is running fun filled activities during the school holidays. Each weekday from 1-12 October, kids can take part in activities involving our bushland and the heat from our soaring sun!

At 10.30am each day, kids will explore the bushland and take a walk to the edge of our solar system, passing planets along the way, and be on the lookout for rare plants. Then it’s off to our greenhouse where kids will be shown how and what you need to plant your own native plant to take home.

Then at 1.30pm, kids will make their own solar oven, using a pizza box! Then, using energy free from the sun… kids will get to cook and eat some yummy treats.

Each activity takes 1 hour and is followed by a tour of the Gravity Discovery Centre. Each activity costs $14 per child with the option of enrolling in both activities for an extra $4 per child.

Our school holiday program is popular, so book early to avoid disappointment by calling 9575 7577 or by emailing [email protected].
