FREE DIVING EXPEDITION WITH FRED BUYLE SOCORRO ISLANDS DIVE WITH A PURPOSE Join the amazing crew of the Quino El Guardian, free diving champion, Fred Buyle and shark specialist, Dr. James Ketchum on one of the most inspiring dive adventures of your lifeme! This expedion is designed specifically for free divers and the primary goal will be to tag hammerhead sharks at greater than 100’. We will also be going to the island of Clarion. The primary work will be placing tags on sharks, geng photo idenficaon images and sex/size raos and collecng and replacing receivers. Dr. Ketchum also involves divers in every aspect of his on-board research. Daily presentaons include subjects such as shark behavior, migraon, movement and conservaon. Take part in as much or as lile as you like! ABOUT FRED BUYLE & DR. KETCHUM Fred Buyle is a 3 me world-record free diver, underwater photographer and marine conservaonist. Fred is the only free diver to have dived at the Geographic North Pole (2005) and Antarcca. Since 2005 he has worked with sciensts around the world to field missions in which free diving is paramount, i.e. telemetry studies that involve tagging sharks or researching cetacean acouscs. James has studied sharks and migratory pelagic species since 1996, parcularly whale sharks, hammerhead sharks and dolphinfish in the Gulf of California and Eastern Tropical Pacific. James holds a Ph.D. in Ecology from UC Davis, where he studied the movement paerns and habitat use of scalloped hammerhead sharks in the Galapagos Islands. James is also co-founder of Pelagios Kakunjá, a Mexican non- profit organizaon that seeks to conserve sharks and pelagic species by understanding their movements, migratory paerns and populaon dynamics in the Mexican Pacific.
