“Nowhere else matters”
Triplet Falls in the Great Otway National Park. I climbed over the rails and walked down to the river, crossed into the middle of the river in front of the waterfall where the flow was at its best.

Welcome to the first newsletter of 2017, and I hope everyone
has had a happy and healthy festive season. My wife and I had a great time at the club’s Christmas barbe-cue, and I particularly enjoyed social-ising with people that I usually don’t get a chance to chat with. Now with the kids returning to school and folks returning to work I guess it’s back to business as usual at the club.
An issue that has been consum-ing my (and a lot of other people’s) attention this last couple of months is regarding the monthly competi-tion rules. The committee recently decided to amend the the number of digital image entries that can be sub-mitted each month (now 4). During the course of discussing this change we got feedback from members and committee people that made it clear that there are lots of differ-ent views as to how best to run our competitions.
I believe this to be an important issue for the club, because knowing
members’ competition preferences informs us as to the kind of con-tent we should be providing in our weekly meetings and the kind of workshops and presentations we should be concentrating on. (Hav-ing said that though I feel bound to also say that the weekly content that we have been getting is pretty good in my humble opinion).
Part of the discussion might also be a review of the set subjects that we have for monthly competitions, and, for example, whether or not we should have an open category each month along with a set subject.
In order to take account of all members’ preferences we will be canvassing everyone in regard to how they would like to see the com-petitions evolving, or indeed if they would like to see them stay exactly as they are. If the feedback we get calls for change then we will put that to a vote at the next AGM to ensure that there is majority support for any such change.

Daytime Group
At our December meeting at Frankston RSL we had a good
attendance of about 18 members.Members discussed a programme for the next twelve months. Twelve or so alternatives were suggested and members indicated their preferences.
The most favoured were:- Cape Schancke, Williamstown, Seawinds (Arthurs Seat), Werribee Zoo, Queenscliffe, Phillip Island, and
Monstalvat. A number of more local alternatives such a McClelland Gallery, Moonlit Sanctuary and an Apiary at Moorooduc were also suggested. There was also some interest in going away as group for a few days somewhere such as Port Campbell. The idea of having “themed” (such as Drama, Tonal contrast, scale, detail, reflections etc.) shoots was thought to be of value, and will be implemented.
