This course is designed for personnel working on sea vessels who require the Certificate of Safety Training (CoST) provides the skills and knowledge required by seafarers to prevent and respond to fires on board a vessel. This applies to seafarers working in the maritime industry requiring a CoST. The individuals attending the course will be Seafarers serving in any capacity on board ships operat- ing in international waters and personnel working in the Offshore Oil and Gas industry. Authority / Regulator - The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) is the national regulator for Nationally Recognised Training delivered by Australia’s vocational education and training sector. - STCW training delivered in Australia is regulated by AMSA, which is Australia's national agency responsible for maritime safety. ERGT Recommended Skills & KnowledgeIn order for ERGT to deliver the training and assessment in the timeframe specified for this course, it is desirable (but not mandatory) that trainees come to the course with a specific range of skills and knowledge as listed: Skills:- Maritime experience on coastal or larger vessels- Emergency Response for vessels at seaKnowledge:- Knowledge of ships procedures- Security arrangements for offshore vessels and platforms ERGT have identified the following supporting courses that contribute to your ability to meet the desired skills and knowledge. These are: - Security Awareness Training STCW Reg VI/6 and Code Section A-VI/6, Table A-VI/6-1- Personal Survival Techniques STCW Reg VI/1 and Code Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-1- Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities STCW Reg VI/1 and Code Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-4If you do not have the recommended skills and knowledge please contact ERGT to discuss your options.

Additional RequirementsPlease read the attached AS/NZS 1715 Appendix B: Facial Seal of Respirators. You will not be able to meet competency if you do not comply with the requirements of the standard. Please contact us if you require further clarification.

Structure & AssessmentThis course is a combination of theory and practical training in a simulated workplace setting. The focus is on developing skills and knowledge regarding Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting in a maritime setting. Assessments will occur in both the training room and simulated workplace environment/s. Trainees must demonstrate satisfactory outcomes against all assessment criteria to be deemed competent. Guidance for conducting assessments is included in the Lesson Guide and assessment resources for this course.

CertificationUpon successful completion trainees will be issued with an AMSA Basic Safety and Security Awareness Training in:Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (STCW Reg VI/1 and Code Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-2)

Trainees will also be issued with a Statement of Attainment in:MARF008 Prevent and fight fires on board a vessel

RevalidationIt is an AMSA requirement to successfully revalidate Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (STCW Code A-VI/1-2) every 5 years.
