Thursday, February 2, is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. According to Luke’s Gospel, chapter 2:22-40, when Jesus was 40 days old, Mary and Joseph followed the ancient Jewish custom of presenting the first born to the Lord as the Jewish people remembered how in the days of Moses God spared the lives of the first born from the Angel of Death (Exodus chapters 11-13). The prophet Simeon took Baby Jesus in his arms and proclaimed him as a “light to the nations.” Stressing the point that Jesus Christ is our light, in the Middle Ages, the Feast took on the secondary name Candlemas or Candle Mass. So, on Thursday at the regular 8:30 am Mass (celebrated in the Church, not the Chapel), we will bless all the candles to be used by our Church; you may even bring your own candles from your house, and we will bless them. At 6:30 pm also in the Church we will have the same celebration in Spanish. Thus, regularly scheduled Confessions will be cancelled that Thursday night. Also, please note that the regularly scheduled Thursday 6:30 am Mass will be canceled and transferred to the next day, Friday.
Friday, February 3, is the Feastday of St. Blaise, Bishop and Martyr. According to tradition, when Bishop Blaise was being taken to his martyrdom, a mother whose son was choking on a fish bone caught in his throat pleaded for Blaise to pray for her son, and the boy’s life was spared. On this day, we will be blessing people’s throats and praying that the Lord deliver them from ailments of the throat and every disease. That will take place after the 6:30 am Mass in the Chapel (replacing the displaced Thursday 6:30 am Mass) and the normal 8:30 am Mass although the blessing of the throats at the 8:30 Mass will begin after the homily. The regularly scheduled 6:30 pm Spanish Mass will be canceled since we just had the Spanish Mass the night before.
Bishop Greg Kelly will honor 2 outstanding parishioners from every parish in the Diocese next Saturday, February 4, at 10:00 am at the Cathedral Guadalupe downtown at the intersection of Ross and Pearl. This year we have chosen as our outstanding parishioners Delia Beavers and Samuel Mora for serving us so wonderfully during their years with us. Please pray for and congratulate them. You might even want to attend the ceremony.

El jueves 2 de febrero es la Fiesta de la Presentación del Señor. Según el Evangelio de Lucas, capítulo 2: 22-40, cuando Jesús tenía 40 días, María y José siguieron la antigua costumbre judía de presentar a su primogénito al Señor, recordando cuando Dios salvó las vidas de los primogénitos del pueblo judío del Ángel de la Muerte en el tiempo de Moisés (Éxodo capítulos 11-13). El profeta Simeón tomó al Niño Jesús en sus brazos y lo proclamó como "Luz de las naciones". Además, tenga en cuenta que la Misa regular del jueves a las 6:30 am será cancelada y se celebrará al día siguiente, viernes.
El viernes, 3 de febrero, es la Celebración de San Blas, Obispo y Mártir. Según la tradición, cuando el obispo Blas fue llevado a su martirio, una madre cuyo, hijo se ahogaba con un hueso de pescado atorado en su garganta, pidió a Blas que orara por su hijo, y la vida del niño fue salvada. En la actualidad, nosotros bendeciremos la garganta de las personas y rezaremos para que el Señor los libere de los malestares y enfermedades de la garganta. Esto ocurrirá aquí el viernes después de la Misa de 6:30 am en la Capilla (reemplazando a la Misa regular del jueves 6:30 am) y en la Misa regular de 8:30 am, aunque la bendición de las gargantas en esta Misa comenzará después de la homilía. Tomen en cuenta que la Misa regular en español del viernes a las 6:30 pm será cancelada, ya que acabamos de celebrar la Misa en español la noche anterior.
El obispo Greg Kelly honrará a 2 feligreses sobresalientes de cada parroquia de la Diócesis el próximo sábado 4 de febrero a las 10:00 am en el centro de la Catedral Guadalupe en la intersección de Ross y Pearl. Attention all Current Extra-Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion It is a requirement of the Diocese of Dallas for all actively serving Eucharistic Ministers to attend annual retraining and re-commissioning in order to be able to serve for another year.
