Can God forgive any sin? Many live Can God forgive any sin? Many live during their lives pondering about during their lives pondering about this question over and over again- this question over and over again- doubting the love of God and the doubting the love of God and the promise that he made. “It doesn’t promise that he made. “It doesn’t matter how great our sin is”, He matter how great our sin is”, He will forgive it.will forgive it.There is one requirement from God in order for

him to forgive us of our sins.

1.Confession: We need to tell God when we have done wrong, it is not good to keep it for ourselves; un-confessed sins do not help us at all.

1 John 1:9-10… “

The Horrible sin of King David!

We say Horrible because that’s the way society classifies sins. There are no “better” sins than others. Sin is sin and God deals with it in the same manner.

1 It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. 2 Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold.

Page 9: This Congregation meets at: Sunday Bible Class at 10:00 am. Sunday Worship Service at 11:00 am. Sunday Night Worship service at 6:00 pm. Wednesday Night

3 So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” 4 Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house. 5 And the woman conceived; so she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.” 6 Then David sent to Joab, saying, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” And Joab sent Uriah to David. 7 When Uriah had come to him, David asked how Joab was doing, and how the people were doing, and how the war prospered. 8 And David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” So Uriah departed from the king’s house, and a gift of food from the king followed him. 9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and did not go down to his house. 10 So when they told David, saying, “Uriah did not go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “Did you not come from a journey? Why did you not go down to your house?”

11 And Uriah said to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah are 11 And Uriah said to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah are dwelling in tents, and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord dwelling in tents, and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open fields. Shall I then go to my house to are encamped in the open fields. Shall I then go to my house to eat and drink, and to lie with my wife? eat and drink, and to lie with my wife? AsAs you live, and you live, and asas your your soul lives, I will not do this thing.” 12 Then David said to Uriah, soul lives, I will not do this thing.” 12 Then David said to Uriah, “Wait here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart.” So “Wait here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart.” So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next. 13 Now Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next. 13 Now when David called him, he ate and drank before him; and he when David called him, he ate and drank before him; and he made him drunk. And at evening he went out to lie on his bed made him drunk. And at evening he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but he did not go down to his with the servants of his lord, but he did not go down to his house. 14 In the morning it happened that David wrote a letter to house. 14 In the morning it happened that David wrote a letter to Joab and sent Joab and sent itit by the hand of Uriah. 15 And he wrote in the by the hand of Uriah. 15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, letter, saying, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die.” 16 and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die.” 16 So it was, while Joab besieged the city, that he assigned Uriah to So it was, while Joab besieged the city, that he assigned Uriah to a place where he knew there a place where he knew there werewere valiant men. valiant men.

David Killed and also committed adultery…that’s going to be our lesson this evening. We judge things in different ways but any person, even a person with very low moral principles can see and understand that what David did was very wrong and that he would never receive the approval of man, neither (what is more important) God.

We will see in this case how God deals in a very special way with the sinner and also, how God treats sin. David will be the sinner in this case and God is the Judge.

David is attracted physically, to the beauty of a woman with the name of… Bathsheba. 2 Samuel 11:2-4… “2 Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. 3 So David sent and inquired about the woman. Is it normal? Some say yes, it is normal. But no, it is not normal. For a man of God that is already married and with compromises, it is not normal to look at, to desire, and even what is more compromising… to take the woman or the wife of his neighbor.

Jesus says that even if we look at a woman and desire her, we have already committed adultery with her in our hearts.

Matthew 5:27-28… “27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Page 14: This Congregation meets at: Sunday Bible Class at 10:00 am. Sunday Worship Service at 11:00 am. Sunday Night Worship service at 6:00 pm. Wednesday Night

Sorry brother but you know what the problem was? David had too much time on his hands, like many of us. That is what happens when we have so much time on our hands and we do not use it properly, that’s what happens. We sin! Please don’t say that this is normal!

2 Samuel 11:3… Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. I call that, too much time in our hands! The result? We know it. When he saw the woman, of course he followed the same plan that many in the Bible followed and that is the process of Sin. SAW---Coveted---Took. Remember Adam and Eve? Remember Achan? The same situation happened to David.

In order to cover his illicit act, David In order to cover his illicit act, David follows the deceived and the lie.follows the deceived and the lie. 2Samuel 11:5-122Samuel 11:5-12… “5 And the woman conceived; so she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.” 6 Then David sent to Joab, saying, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” And Joab sent Uriah to David. Did David violate the word of God by killing Uriah? Yes, we openly can say that the man that was “after God’s own heart”, is now a killer and God will not overlook his sin.

Let see please some commandments that David violated by Killing his servant.

You shall not commit Adultery. Exodus 20:14.You shall not kill. Exodus 20:13.You shall not steal. Exodus 20:15.You shall not take your neighbours wife. Exodus 20:17.

Was the Lord proud of what David had done? No, the Bible tells us that God was very displeased with David’s actions…

2 Samuel 11:27… “27 And when her mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

Many asked: Why do we have this account Many asked: Why do we have this account in the Bible? Our answer is with the in the Bible? Our answer is with the following reasons:following reasons:

Page 18: This Congregation meets at: Sunday Bible Class at 10:00 am. Sunday Worship Service at 11:00 am. Sunday Night Worship service at 6:00 pm. Wednesday Night

So that we could see and show the reality of the nature of the human heart. Also, to show in a very vivid way the weakness of man, and what man is capable of doing when he is under the influence of the Holy Spirit and Heaven.

Another reason is to show us that sin brings forth consequences, disgraces, and more things that can accompany us for the rest of our lives. This also makes us conscience of the fact we are the ones who choose to do good or to do evil.

The last reason that I will mention as to why we have this account in the Bible is because, even though we fail and sin, there is a God that is willing to forgive and to clean any iniquities from us. 1 John 1:9.1 John 1:9.

Let’s see the consequences of David’s Sin!

2 Samuel 12:1-12… “1 Then the LORD sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: “There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. 3 But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him. 4 And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.” 5 So David’s anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the LORD lives, the man who has done this shall surely die!

Page 20: This Congregation meets at: Sunday Bible Class at 10:00 am. Sunday Worship Service at 11:00 am. Sunday Night Worship service at 6:00 pm. Wednesday Night

6 And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity.” 7 Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. 8 I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more! 9 Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon. 10 Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ 11 Thus says the LORD: ‘Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbour, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. 12 For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun.’

Did God forgive David? That was my question at the beginning and we will try to answer that question right now. Remember please…

Proverbs. 28:13… “13 He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

When we sin we need to remember that we have an advocate with God the Father.

John 2:1… “1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

First of all, he did recognize that he had violated the law of God and that he was guilty in front of God. Psa. 32:1-5.

Thru the assistance of the Holy Spirit, he found the way of repentance. Psalm. 51:1,7.
