    My dear Parishioners,

This past Friday evening I concelebrated a Mass of Thanks-

giving at St. Thomas More Parish in Decatur, marking the

retirement of its pastor of the past 13 years, Monsignor Paul

Fogarty. The principal celebrant and homilist was Arch-

bishop Gregory. A large number of priests attended and the

sanctuary overflowed with parishioners present and past,

many coming from other parishes previously served by

Monsignor Paul over the past 49 years of his priesthood.

The first reading was proclaimed by his nephew and godson

from Ireland. Sitting with him in the first row were Mon-

signor’s niece and husband also from Ireland who surprised

him by showing up unexpectedly. It was a grand celebration

and a fitting tribute to one of the priestly pillars of the Arch-

    diocese.

In miles, St. Thomas More is not terribly far from St. Paul of

the Cross, 12 or 13 at most. But on Friday afternoon — I

left early by my calculations, took the shorter and more di-

rect route and still missed the dinner, arriving barely 15

minutes before the Mass at 6:00 o’clock. I should have

known better; stowed a power bar and bottle of water in the

door pocket and left at noon! Inching through the center of

town toward I-75 South for what seemed to be an eternity, I

marveled at the patience and courtesy of so many drivers

who apparently endure this every day of the week. While

the media focuses our attention on the wild ones and the

accidents, there has to be a lot of decency —sanctity, if you

will — bound up in those traffic lines. City traffic is a lot

like life. Deal with it and, hopefully, at the end of the jour-

ney, a really great party! —Fr. Jerome, C.P.

The time for the 2016 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal pledges had arrived. Commitment this weekend January 30-31. The goal set for St. Paul of the Cross is $37,100.00. To be able to exceed this goal, it is very important that we fulfill our pledges. Once the pledge pay-ments have surpassed our goal, all of the additional funds are returned to our parish for use in our own ministries. THIS YEAR LET US MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO EXCEED OUR GOAL.

Lent is an invitation to put the brakes on our often hectic lives. A good way to build in some quiet and fruitful time is to join a small faith sharing community and experience Lenten Longings. You will meet other members of the parish once a week during Lent to reflect on Scripture and talk about how our faith applies to our everyday lives. It’s a good way to prepare for our Easter celebration dur-ing this Jubilee Year of Mercy. Sign-up Sheets are located on the resource table at the rear of the church. If you have questions about the program please talk with one of the group leaders or call the parish office at 404-696-6704.

I just want to thank the Choir and other volunteers for preparing and serving a hot, delicious, nutritious meal to

35 men who were homeless at The Shrine of The Immaculate Conception night shelter on Friday,

January 15 ! They were very appreciative!

  • CUARTO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO 31 DE ENERO, 2016

¡Bienvenidos a San Pablo de la

    Cruz!
