Thisyear’scelebrationtohonourourMarianistheritagewasonceagainawonderfulsuccess.Indeedthisyear’sactivitiestookonanextrasignificanceduetotheBicentennialofthefoundationsoftheMarianistbrothers.

OurweekofcelebrationbeganonSunday22ndJanuary,theFeastdayofBlessedChaminadewithagatheringforSundayMassattheBrother’shouse.

TheMissionIntegrationTeamhasmetpriortoFoundersweekandagreedontheactivitiesfortheweekofcelebrationfortheschool.

Weagreedthatwewouldcontinuewiththeformatthathadbeenusedoverthelastnumberofyears.Eachdaywecelebratedthelifeofoneofthefoundersduringextendedprayertime,soastoreflectoneachoftheirlivesandtheircontributiontotheMarianistfamilyandtheChurch.

WebeganonMondaywithhonouringtheVenerableAdeledeBatzdeTrenquelleon.DuringTuesday’sprayertimewereflectedonthelifeandcontributionofMarieTheresedeLamouroustotheMarianistfamily.Wednesdaymorning’sprayergaveanopportunitytorevisitthelifeofBlessedWilliamJosephChaminadeandtoprayforhiscontinuedintercessionforourschoolandallMarianistinstitutions.OnThursdayweintroducedBlessedJakobGappduringtheprayerandtooktimetocontemplateonthefaithandcourageofthisMarianistandtheinspirationheistoallofuswhoaremissionariesofMary.

TheLiturgytocelebrateourMarianistheritagetookplaceonFridayforthewholeschoolcommunityintheBrotherFredRechSMlibrary.MasswascelebratedbyFrMikeReaumeSM.Ourthemeandreadings(2Cor4:6-7andJn.2:1-11)reflectedonwhatitmeanstobeusedbyGodasMarianists,“Dowhateverhetellsyou,”andthefirstreadingspokeabouthow,eventhoughourlivesarelikeclayjars,thereistreasurewhichcanbeusedbyChristwithin.ManyofourLIFEmembersparticipatedinaspecialwayduringtheMassinthechoirandasreadersoftheWord.

Manyactivitiestookplaceduringtheweekofcelebration;TheChaminadeCupsoccermatchbetweenourseniorboys(5thand6thyearboys)tookplaceonWednesdayandwaswonbyour6thYearboy’steamwithascoreof13-10.

LIFEmeeting

AlsoonWednesdayafternoonafterschoolwehadanextendedLIFEmeetingleadbyour3LIFEleaders.WejoinedbyLayMarianistSusanBuckleyfortheoccasion.Thethemeofourmeetingwas“GettingtoKnowYou.Theybeganwithanicebreaker,whichhelpedthegrouptotalkaboutthemselves.Weatepizzaaswediscussedhowenrichingitcanbegettingtoknowothers,especiallyifwedidn’tknowthembefore.Thiswasfollowedbyasimplebutbeautifulprayerservice.

TheChaminadeawardsceremonywasheldafterMassonFriday,andtheseawardsweregiventothestudentsthatmostembodytheMarianistspiritinourschoolcommunity.

DuringFridaylunch,wehadthetraditional‘PotLuckLunch’forstaff,whereeveryonecontributedfood,anditwasatimetobuildupcommunitywithallthestaffatSLC.

Attheendofthedayafterthe3o’clockprayer,thelongawaitedMarianistquiztookplace,basedontheinformationgivenduringtheweekonourthreefoundersandonBl.JakobGapp.Ourseniorswerehopingtowintheprizebutwerepipedatthepostbyonepointbyour1styears,whomusthavelistenedverycarefullyovertheweek,asitwastheirfirsttimehearingtheMarianiststory!!MrRedmondpresentedthewinningclasswiththeirprizeofaboxofsweetstobesharedbytheclass.

TheMarianistcommunitywasblessedovertheweekendofthe28thand29thJanuarywhenBrotherJackSomervilleSM,visitedthecommunitywiththeMarianistIcononroutetoAfricia.

ALiturgytocelebratetheBicentennialofthefoundationoftheSocietyofMaryandtopresenttheIcontookplaceinStLaurenceCollegeonSundaymorning.TheMarianistCommunitywasjoinedbyfriends,familyandrepresentativesofourschoolcommunity,includingstaffandstudentswhocelebratedtogetherthiswonderfuloccasion.
