Annual Report 2013 Review Dear Allied Arts Supporters, Over the past five years, Allied Arts of Whatcom County, like most other non-profit organizations, has had to evaluate their budget and develop creative ways to produce quality art programs that serve our community and the surrounding region. To prioritize effectively, we have had to rely on the organization’s mission statement: “Allied Arts of Whatcom County is dedicated to the arts in our region by empowering local artists through organized festivals and events, enriching our local school children through educational outreach programs, and working as a liaison to art enthusiasts of all ages, within our uniquely creative community.” The most effective ways we have served that mission in the past year is through our efforts to promote the Arts Community of Whatcom County, four different art exhibit programs throughout the county, our 3 different annual arts and music festivals and our renowned Arts in the Schools program. The three primary ways in which we promote our rich arts community is through marketing efforts which include the Arts and Culture Guide, our sought after annual publication highlighting some of the region’s top visual and performing arts venues and artist, regional advertising from Vancouver BC and south to Seattle, and a much needed newly improved Allied Arts of Whatcom County web site at www.alliedarts.org. Many thanks to Nancy Chambers for her incredible graphics and the Bellingham Tourism Commission for their grant assistance for both of these programs, as well as Art Talk and Event Calendar in partnership with KMRE- Spark Radio housed at the Spark Museum. We are thrilled that our projected budget for 2014 is finally out of the red and we have a solid five year track record of highly sustainable programs that are serving our local arts, organizations and patrons. On behalf of the staff and board, we thank all of you who have supported our efforts through membership, monetary and in-kind donations as well as the countless volunteer hours and community collaborations. We look forward to presenting another year of quality community arts programs. Executive Director Founded in 1979 Return Service Requested P.O. Box 2584 Bellingham, WA 98227 NONPROFIT ORG. Annual Report 2013 Review

Dear Allied Arts Supporters,

Over the past five years, Allied Arts of Whatcom County, like most other non-profit organizations, has had to evaluate their budget and develop creative ways to produce quality art programs that serve our community and the surrounding region. To prioritize effectively, we have had to rely on the organization’s mission statement: “Allied Arts of Whatcom County is dedicated to the arts in our region by empowering local artists through organized festivals and events, enriching our local school children through educational outreach programs, and working as a liaison to art enthusiasts of all ages, within our uniquely creative community.”

The most effective ways we have served that mission in the past year is through our efforts to promote the Arts Community of Whatcom County, four different art exhibit programs throughout the county, our 3 different annual arts and music festivals and our renowned Arts in the Schools program.

Festivals Allied Arts of Whatcom County hosts festivals to accomplish two main goals: to provide a setting in which artists can exhibit, discuss, as well as sell their work and to increase the accessibility of the arts in our community by providing a wide range of visual and performing arts in one location. 2013’s line-up of festivals did just that!

Gallery The Allied Arts Gallery, on Cornwall Avenue, continues to be a place where artists are proud to show their work and where the community comes to experience great art. Here is what we accomplished in 2013:

The Allied Arts Gallery exhibited work from over 175 local artists over the course of 12 shows. The exhibits consisted of the Juried Artist Series, Annual Member’s Show and Petite Fours, Recycled Art Show with The RE Store, a showcase from our Education Project’s Teaching Artists, Chinese art with the Bellingham Cultural Association, and the Cascade Clay Artists.

As well as exhibiting works from some of Northwest Washington’s greatest artists, our gallery has become a gathering place for organizations and individuals to host classes, workshops and presentations.

We have also worked to make the arts more accessible to residents and visitors of Whatcom County by continuing our off-site exhibits at Giuseppe’s Al Porto and the Hotel Bellwether which highlight selected works from our gallery exhibits and festivals.

Education Project The Education Project focused on expanding opportunities for quality arts learning to Whatcom County students through standard observed and social-emotional development considered curriculum, with an emphasis on bringing ‘Artful Thinking’ to all students.

Last year our program conducted workshops led by local artists in dance, theatre and the visual arts in public school classrooms. The project continues to support our community by helping develop equal access to arts education programs. Additionally, we host the Children’s Art Walk each year which provides children with a chance to display their works of art throughout Downtown Bellingham!
