The month of September brings so many opportunities. We have the

opportunity to enjoy cooler weather while still being outside. We have the

opportunity to enjoy fall sports such as football and volleyball. We have

the opportunity to work in the garden and plant spring flowers for the next

year.

Finally we have the opportunity to remember all who died September 11th 2001 while

recognizing those who serve our community as first responders. It has been 18 years since we

woke up to buildings on fire. Early reports were sketchy, soon we realized that our country

was under attack. Subsequent planes kept crashing, the world seemed even more out of

control than I could ever remember. In all of the chaos men and women, first responders

raced into harm’s way. The price many of them paid that day was with their life. Others paid

a price going forward with failing health from exposure to toxic materials in the aftermath.

We never want to forget their sacrifice.

Without too much celebration, every day first responders serve in our community and are

doing work that often calls for danger. In addition many serve in our armed forces protecting

liberty. With that in mind, we want to take the opportunity to honor our first responders in

Metamora and Germantown Hills and active duty personnel on Sunday the 29th from 11:00 to

12:30. This event will take place following our “Meet in the Middle” service that day (at

10:00 AM) with all of our grills fully employed to feed our congregation and our guests

following the service. We will be inviting all of the first responders (and their families) in our

community to share a burger/brat/dog/or pork chop. We will also be inviting any active duty

military personnel and their families. This will be our opportunity to thank them for their

service face to face and share a meal. We will serve whoever shows up.

We anticipate a fun day of fellowship and sharing. If you would like to help, please give

me a call. We look forward to the chance to bless those in our community who serve so many.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus;

Stand in his strength alone;

The arm of flesh will fail you,

You dare not trust your own.

Put on the Gospel armor;

Each piece put on with prayer.

Where duty calls or danger,

Be never wanting there.

Remember ‘Fill the Barrel” is the Mission Summer Project!

In August & September we will continue to “Fill the Barrel” for Open Arms

Food Pantry. Items needed are: paper products, meals-in-a-can, dish soap,

& laundry detergent. At this time plastic bags or eggs cartons are NOT

needed. You can donate monetarily by using the special envelope in your giving

packet, or by marking a pew envelope ‘Summer Project.’ THANK YOU!

Hospital Visits — If someone from our church family has been admitted to the hospital

and would like a visit from Pastor Gary or Brandon, please contact them directly or

contact the church office. Unfortunately, area hospitals are no longer communicating

this information to us, even if you give them your church affiliation. Thank you!

Please pray God’s protection and strength for Andrew Dahl, stationed in Italy; Chelsie

Heathcoat, stationed in Fort Benning, GA; Levi Heathcoat, stationed at Fort Carlson in

Colorado Springs, CO. We continually lift up all the faithful men and women in uniform

serving throughout the world.

Please continue to pray for:

Our Daily Bread

The NEW edition of Our Daily Bread is available in the foyer and in

magazine racks around the church. Take one home for your family and feel free to share one with a friend or neighbor.

We have placed LED light bulbs throughout the sanctuary, however we now have extra bulbs that we no longer need. These bulbs are in working condi-tion and we would like to offer them to the congregation. There will be a table in the foyer with the bulbs. Please take as many as you need. If you know of someone these bulbs would bless, please give them. Thank you, Trustees.

September’s Memory Verse : Create in me a clean heart, O God,

and put a new and right spirit within me.. Psalm 51 : 10

Opportunity to help a community member: My name is Curtis Hill, a single parent, and I live in Metamora. I have a 17 year old

handicap son that I am in need of some help with. His name is Brandon. He has Cerebral

Palsy with a history of seizures (10+ years since he had one) and has no balance. Hence

he is in wheel chair and is a fall risk. He can transfer himself to the bath room and does

feed himself. The need I am trying to fill is for someone to be with him from about 6:30 to

7:30 on school mornings. He needs help with getting breakfast, getting medicine, placing

leg braces on, and getting out to the bus. His sister has been doing this but she is now

going to college out of town. We would also need help all day when school is out or if he is

sick. That would be from 6:30 to 3:30. He loves Xbox, so it would be a plus if the helper

enjoyed it also. Thank you!

Please call if you might be interested: Curtis Hill at 309 713 6100 after 4:00pm
