FOUNDATIONAL TEACHINGS OF VEN. CHÖGYAM TRUNGPA, RINPOCHE A Retreat on The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma May 24 to June 2, Sky-Hy Conference Center, Topsham, Maine Led by Judith L. Lief A nine-day program of meditation practice and study of Volume 1 of The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma by Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche, edited by Judith L. Lief The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma represents meditation master Chögyam Trungpa’s greatest contribution to Western Buddhism. This three-volume collection presents in lively, relevant language the comprehensive teachings of the Tibetan Buddhist path of the hinayana, mahayana, and vajrayana. This work will resonate with new students of Buddhism as well as the most senior students. The first volume, The Path of Individual Liberation, presents the teachings of the hinayana, or foundational vehicle. The hinayana introduces core Buddhist teachings on the nature of mind, the practice of meditation, the reality of suffering, and the possibility of liberation. It examines the nature of suffering, impermanence, and egolessness, with an emphasis on personal development through meditative discipline and study. The hinayana path is based on training in mindfulness and awareness, cultivating virtue, and cutting grasping. The Profound Treasury is a work that rewards continual reading and study over a lifetime and in particular deep study in a quiet meditative context. In this program, over 9 days we will intersperse periods of meditation practice with teaching, instruction, study, and discussion of the teachings in Volume 1, The Path of Individual Liberation. Participants will follow a simple study guide prior to arriving, so when the retreat begins all of us will be familiar with the work. The retreat will include group meditation, individual meditation instruction, talks by Ms. Lief and others, and discussion groups. Upon completion of the retreat, participants will be in a position to make better use of the teachings contained in this groundbreaking set of books. Arrival is on Friday, May 24, with the program starting promptly on Saturday morning. It concludes Sunday aſternoon, June 2. The program is open to all but space is limited. If you are interested in attending, please contact us at [email protected]. We will send you further information.
