foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

And God permitting, we will do so.

1. Jesus came to the world to get people to repent of sin.

2. All people have been born sinners since Adam & Eve.

3. People didn’t sin first: Lucifer / Satan / the Devil did.

4. Sin must be punished with labor, pain, disease and death.

5. We all weren’t just born sinners, we all sin, and habitually.

6. We didn’t really know what sin was until we got the Law.

7. Since Jesus, the Law of Moses has been fulfilled by love.

8. Dead works sums up our efforts to earn God’s salvation.

9. To repent means to ask forgiveness and turn from sin.

10. Those who never repent will be punished on the Last Day.

11. If we do repent, God receives us with many good gifts.

12. After we repent, we should preach repentance to others.

Why did Jesus come to earth?

Q1: Why did Jesus come to earth?

A1: To do what God has been trying to do throughout history: get people to repent. Jesus came to be a doctor who heals sick people-spiritually sick. He came to call sinners to repentance.

R1: 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Luke 5:31,32

2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Luke 5:31,32 Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." (NIV)

A2: The first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve, his wife, became the first sinners when they disobeyed God's only rule: not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Because we are their children, their nature (DNA-physical and spiritual) is in every single one of us. We were born sinners.

Genesis 2:16,17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die."

A3: Yes, Satan, the Devil, Lucifer, the Serpent, was originally an angel in heaven, but he became full of pride and rebelled against God. God judged him and threw him out of heaven. He met the first woman, Eve, in the Garden of Eden, and wanted her to rebel against God, too.

A4: Hard work, pain, disease and death. Thanks to Adam and Eve, our lives are miserable and short.

A5: Absolutely, everyone sins. Some sins we commit. Some sins come from what we omit (don't do). Some of us have sin habits, called iniquities, which are often learned from our parents.

A6: God, through Moses, gave the famous 10 Commandments, as well as many other detailed laws, to the Jewish people. If they wanted to be righteous, like God, then they must obey every commandment.

A7: No, it was only for the Jews and only for a limited time. Later, God let us know that the Law was only an image of what He really wants. The real Law has only 2 parts: Love God. Love people.

Matthew 22:35-40 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him (Jesus) a question to test him. "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. A8: Any time we try to do anything to earn a good place with God, it's useless. The Law failed because no one can live without breaking the Law. Our actions can do nothing to bring us back to righteousness in God's eyes. The only thing we can do is accept the free gift by believing in Jesus.

A9: By praying to God, admitting that you are a sinner by birth and by your own actions, apologizing, asking for his forgiveness, promising to try to stop sinning and, if possible, undoing any bad that you've done.

John 1:8-10 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Luke 19:1-10 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a sinner." But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

A10: The Judgment Day will be a Day of Anger of God towards us. You will have to pay the penalty for all your sins. The price will not be cheap.

Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

A11: We will stop trying to earn our own way to God and will accept the way that he has provided. But our faith, we will receive forgiveness, peace, the loving arms of our Father God, and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

A12: Preach repentance and forgiveness of sins to the whole world, in His name. We have received a precious gift, so it's only right that we share it with others.
