Process, Practice, Performance This research studies off-site modular production processes usingcase studies in international permanent modular construction (PMC). The PMC projects documentedherein provide a research test bed to evaluate the performance metrics attributed to off-siteconstruction and the contingent qualitative contextual factors by which PMC in building design andconstruction may be realized. This research quantifies the added value of PMC and evaluates the

contextual factors by which PMC in building design and construction may be realized in the U.S. andbeyond. The scope of this Structural Design research focuses on commercial construction and doesnot include single family residential. The research uses a case study method to compare PMCprojects to traditional site built projects globally for construction performance parameters such ascost, schedule, quality, and safety. Both quantitative and qualitative data is collected throughliterature review, questionnaire and interviews. In addition to the comparative analysis, this reportshares the results of an off-site industry survey, and a return on investment assessmentdemonstrates the lifecycle value of reduction in schedule as a result of modular.
