Executive Director Notes

Foundation News July 2015

The Community Foundation of Washington County MD, Inc. is a tax-exempt public charity

created by and for the people of Washington County, MD.

facebook.com/cfwashingtoncountymd twitter.com/CFWCMD www.cfwcmd.org

We had another successful Washington County Gives raising $100,000 more than last year! We really appreciated the

support from the Washington County community to help our local nonprofits further their missions. I would personally

like to thank our presenting sponsors for supporting this event: Pauline Anderson Foundation, Big Cork Vineyards, The

Fletcher Foundation, Hershey Family Foundation, Thompson Gas, Thompson Family Fund and Waltersdorf

Family Fund. See Page 2 for the Top 10 list and our media sponsors.

Even though it won’t take place until November 5, it’s never too early to start thinking about nominations for our

People’s Choice Awards. We invite you to nominate an individual or a team of two who give generously and

unselfishly of their time and talents to make Washington County a better place to live. (Visit our website to complete the

online nomination form.) We will honor three nominees at our annual award’s dinner. The Foundation will also

establish a $5,000 endowment on behalf of each winner to benefit the nonprofit organization of their choice.

In November, we also publish our annual report, IMPACT. We have already started taking reservations for one or two

page advertorials. We mail this publication out to more than 7,000 high income homes and businesses throughout the

county. Call me at (301) 745-5210 or e-mail me at [email protected] to reserve your space or for more information.

Did you know the Community Foundation’s five-year annualized investment return makes us one of the top performing

community foundations in the country? A bequest is the easiest way to create a legacy of giving. Call me for the correct

language to put in your will.

New CFWC Website

For the past several months, we have worked with High Rock Studios to create a new Community Foundation

website. In addition to an updated look and feel, the new site will also have a new donation form, Planned

Giving section, donor stories and much more. We hope you will find this new site easier to navigate when

looking for a specific fund or scholarship, grant information or how to create your own fund at the Foundation.

It will also be mobile ready, so now you can view it on your tablet or phone in addition to your desktop. Look

for the new site to go live sometime this month!

The Community Foundation offers a wide variety of funds,

allowing donors the greatest flexibility in meeting their charitable goals. You may establish any of the following

funds with a minimum gift of $1,000, with growth to $5,000 within five years: Donor-Advised, Community, Field of

Interest, Designated, Scholarship or Memorial.

All funds are managed carefully and prudently by professional investment managers and administered by CFWC. We protect donor intent, while at the same time

complying with federal tax requirements. The Foundation retains the right to make final decisions regarding the

management, administration and distribution of all funds.
