WSIS+10: ICT, Innovation, Entrepreneurship • ICTs play an important role in socio-economic development through job creation and

entrepreneurship.• ICTs have become vitally important drivers for economic growth and development, and have

stimulated innovation and new business opportunities. It remains important that adequate policies and frameworks enable Small and Medium-sized Enterprises to benefit from the economic potential of ICTs;

• The need to continue to promote investment and foster entrepreneurship and innovation in ICTs at the national, regional, and international levels as appropriate;

• Nurture innovation and entrepreneurship by stimulating investment by ensuring effective and fair competition;

7,000 entries have been registered in the WSIS Stocktaking Database reflecting innovative activities of stakeholders working on the implementation of WSIS outcomes, and knowledge and experience sharing of projects by replicating successful models

ICT projects and initiatives reflected on this platform also highlight progress made towards achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

WSIS Prizes: Success Stories ContestA Unique Global Recognition For Excellence in the Implementation of WSIS Outcomes

WSIS Prizes is an immediate response to the requests expressed by WSIS stakeholders during the WSIS Forum 2011: to create a mechanism to evaluate and reward stakeholders for their efforts in the implementation of WSIS outcomes.

WSIS Prizes contest is part of WSIS Stocktaking Process and it rapidly became popular with the ICT4D community.

Since 2012, more than 1,000 ICT projects have been submitted for the prestigious WSIS Prizes!

Each year, on the occasion of the WSIS Forum, 18 WSIS stakeholders are awarded WSIS Prizes

The reporting is based on the contributions of the stakeholders responding to the WSIS regular calls for update and new entries. New Call coming up in Fall 2015!

RI-EUR5 - Entrepreneurship, innovation and youthWTDC-14 Outcomes• Objective: To foster the creation of an enabling environment and build

capacities at the regional level, aimed at growth of entrepreneurship and increased innovation in the ICT ecosystem, while encouraging empowerment of young men and women and creating new opportunities for them in the ICT sector.

• Expected results: Assistance to the countries in need in the following:1. A stronger and expanded regional network of ICT incubators2. Improved performance, gender-responsiveness and sustainability of ICT incubators

across the region3. Enhanced competitiveness and sustainability of small and medium enterprises

(SMEs) in the region4. Integration of ICT professionals, including young people and students, into the employment market

by providing them with appropriate skills and knowledge and promoting self-development to help them find employment or create their own businesses.
