Story: “This is a story about diamonds and two diamond hunters.” Step 2: Fold the bottom corner up to the top corner and crease in the middle, so it looks like a triangle (or a mountain). Story: “There were diamonds rumoured to be found in the Drakensberg mountain range in South Africa.” Step 3: Fold the right corner over to the left corner to make a smaller triangle. Crease and reopen so that the “valley” crease is facing up. Story: “This mountain range had large mountains and smaller mountains, too, but legend had it that the biggest mountain at the end of the valley was full of the most beautiful diamonds.” Step 4: Fold the right bottom corner up to the top corner and crease. Repeat the same with the left bottom corner. Then reopen. There should now be three “valley” creases. Story: “Two diamond hunters, who lived in the valley decided to climb the biggest mountain to seek their fortune. Righty, who was very bossy, went first and he climbed all the way to the top. Lefty followed him. When they both reached the top they decided to sit down and have a cup of tea. However, they weren’t there for very long at all because there came a great and terrifying earthquake. Lefty and Righty ran back down the mountain and to the valley as fast as they could.”

Step 1: Start with a square piece of paper in a diamond shape. If one side of the paper is white, position the paper with the white side up.

Story: “This is a story about diamonds and two diamond hunters.”

Step 2: Fold the bottom corner up to the top corner and crease in the middle, so it looks like a triangle (or a mountain).

Story: “There were diamonds rumoured to be found in the Drakensberg mountain range in South Africa.”

Step 3: Fold the right corner over to the left corner to make a smaller triangle. Crease and reopen so that the “valley” crease is facing up.

Story: “This mountain range had large mountains and smaller mountains, too, but legend had it that the biggest mountain at the end of the valley was full of the most beautiful diamonds.”

Step 4: Fold the right bottom corner up to the top corner and crease.

Step 5: Flip the paper over, so that the “mountain” creases are right side up.

Story: “Once they were safely in the valley, they turned around and looked back at the mountain.”

Step 6: Fold the first layer of the top corner to the bottom so that the top tip touches the centre line of the “valley” bottom.

Story: “The earthquake caused an avalanche! The top layer of snow from the summit fell right down to the bottom. Snow was blocking the path to the bottom of the mountain. When everything had settled, a cave was exposed inside the mountain.”

Step 7: Flip over the triangle layer just created and fold it inside and between the two sides of paper - in the “cave” pocket. Have the coloured corner reach the middle crease at the bottom.

Story: “They decided to put all the fallen snow inside the cave in the big mountain.”

Step 8: Refold all the “mountain” creases and hold in a “Party Hat” shape.

Story: “Finally, they sealed up all the entrances to the cave on the mountain. As they sealed up the last entrance, a fox ran out. Although Lefty and Righty didn’t find any diamonds, the villagers were so happy the snow was cleared that they made party hats and threw a fabulous party to celebrate .”

Now make the box!Step 10: The “fox ears” tabs of one piece slot into the pocket of the second piece (push them in all the way). If anything needs to be hidden inside the fortune cookie, put the item inside now, when only two pieces are slotted together. Next, insert the two “fox ears” tabs of the final piece into the pocket of the second piece (this part is rather tricky, so take your time, making sure the tabs are pushed in all the way). Enjoy your fortune cookie!

Step 9: Make two more pieces (three

pieces in total) by repeating Steps 1-8.
