Scripture Reflection:
Among the compelling Eucharistic themes proclaimed in today’s
readings is the notion of “participation” as found in Saint Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. Good stewards are part of a
Eucharistic family: loving, welcoming, service. An important
part of living as a steward comes about in the many ways we can participate in the life of the Church. No matter how much
times we have to give, no matter what our skills or interests, no matter what our level of commitment, there is a way to
participate as a good steward to enrich our lives and the lives of others to build up the Body of Christ. Catholic Stewardship Council

Come & Pray for Religious Freedom as we begin the Fortnight for Freedom
The Fortnight for Freedom: Freedom to Serve will take place from
June 21 to July 4, 2014, a time when our liturgical calendar
celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the
face of persecution by political power—St. Thomas More and St.
John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First
Martyrs of the Church of Rome. The theme of this year's Fortnight
will focus on the freedom to serve the poor and vulnerable in
accord with human dignity and the Church's teaching. This program
is sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
As part of your personal participation in the Fortnight for Freedom,
I encourage you to recite the prayer on the cover of this week’s
bulletin with your spouse and family for the 14 days from June 21
to July 4. Fr. John D’Antonio – Pastor

Stewardship Reflection
“Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.” 1 Corinthians 10:17
As disciples of Jesus, we are called to lead holy lives and invite others to join us. Living a stewardship
lifestyle, being grateful and generous with our gifts, serves a twofold purpose. One, it helps build God’s kingdom here on earth. Two, it is a road map to Heaven. Let’s help each other get there!

Bringing home the word
Men and Women Welcome: Do you want to enrich your spiritual life and develop close Catholic friendships? Then come to a meeting of the
Legion of Mary praesidium (chapter) here at Holy Cross. Legion members meet once a week and with a partner do spiritual works of mercy for the parish, like visits to nursing home, religious education, and bringing the Eucharist to individual who can't come to Mass. Currently the Legion meets on Friday at 9 am in Classroom 12 but there is the possibility of changing the meeting time to afternoon or
evening to accommodate new members. "Come and see" what the Legion is all about by attending a weekly meeting. For information call Cele Giordano, 709-0030.
“The situation today points to an ever-increasing urgency for a doctrinal formation of
the lay faithful, not simply in a better understanding which is natural to faith’s
dynamism, but also in enabling them to “give a reason for their hoping” in view of the world and its grave and complex problems. Therefore a
systematic approach to catechesis geared to age and the diverse situations of life is an absolute
necessity.” (CL 60 – St. Pope John Paul II)
Come join us in our study of the Catechism of the Catholic Church every Monday evening at 6:30pm in
Classrooms 1 and 2. ______________________________________________

Reverend John D’Antonio, Pastor
Prayer for Religious Freedom to be recited from June 21 till July 4
O God our Creator,
providently from your hand we have received our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
You have called us as your people and given us the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God,
and your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit,
you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light and the saving truth of
to every corner of society. We ask you to bless us
in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty.Give us the strength of mind and heart
to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard
on behalf of the rights of your Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.
Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons
gathered in your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation,
so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome
for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, and all who come after us
this great land will always be "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
