INSPIRATION

Try To Be More Understanding

Often the reason a relationship fails is not because of a difference of opinion, but a lack of understanding. Why aren’t we more understanding? For Three Reasons: (1) Selfishness. Somebody quipped, “There’s two sides to every question-as long as it doesn’t concern me personally.” Paul writes: “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly, in honor giving preference to another.” (2) Fear. Prejudice is often the fear of what we’re unwilling to try and understand. When it comes to new ideas you’ve two options: open your mind and grow, or reject them and stay the same size. We tend to compare what we don’t understand with what we think we do-like the folks who told Columbus the earth was flat. When it comes to building relationships you’ve got to be willing to do what you’ve not yet done. (3) Differences. It takes more than one color to make a rainbow and one musician to make an orchestra. When you take time to appreciate the dif-ferences in people, you discover we all share the same hopes and fears. Harry truman said, “ When we understand the other fellow’s viewpoint and what he’s trying to do, nine times out of ten he’s just trying to do it right.” Two of our most common problems are “gift-envy” and gift-projection.” One happens when we compare our talents with others and feel inferior. The other happens when we expect others to feel equally passionate about what we do. The Bible says, “ There are different kinds of service....but we serve the same Lord” (1Co 12:5 NLT) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

After months of summer heat, it’s time to focus on the cooler days to come. Which, in the fashion world, means the retailers are quickly filling their racks with fall products. Being a style blogger and fashion expert I always have my eye out for the seasons best trends... before they hit the shelves! This fall I’m captivated by dark blues, deep forest greens and luxurious oxblood reds. Time ditch the summer sandals and get back into those chic pumps!

Update your wardrobe this season with key pieces like a structured military jackets, classic smoking slippers and silky blouses. Don’t be afraid to play around with rich red lips, loose ombré locks and lux smokey eyes!

How to Wear It Your Way

I love having a friend/sister/twin that has the same taste and size in clothes. It makes for the ideal shopping buddy and well, doubles the span of each others closets!

I love that this sweater is knitted loosely enough allowing it to breath and making it simple to layer without looking bulky.

Dark rich reds are a staple color for fall/winter considering that pairs well with practically any color, and com-pliments every skin tone.

America's NEXT TOP

sweetheartINTERVIEW and photos by xavier Mireles

FORMO: So Andie, how’s it going?ANDIE: My days been good!FORMO: What are you working on right now?ANDIE: Memorizing lines for a play Im in called “Somebody / Nobody” .. I play a..a movie star. (She smiles)FORMO: Haha very cool…well lets jump into it!.. Tell me about Next Top Model.. How did that happen??ANDIE: Americas Next Top Model…Well, I was on 6th street in Austin and a woman came up and ap-proached me and asked how tall I was. And I said I was 5’10.FORMO: Just like that??ANDIE: And she said, ‘I work for Tyra Banks...’ But I didn’t know if she was legit or not. So she gave me her card and asked if she could have my email ad-dress so she could send me info about it. So by the time I got home like an hour later she already sent me an application, it like a 12 page application…FORMO: Oh wow…ANDIE: And yeah, so immediately from there, I kind of hit the ground running. She didn’t tell me that I was in yet though. She asked me to do my mea-surements, send in pictures, record videos, you know, stuff like that. Then she asked me to sign a contract. And it took me a while to sign the contract because I was having it looked over by a lawyer before I signed it... When I signed the contract and sent it to her. She called me like 5 minutes later and was like, okay tyra picked you... I basically signed the contract saying I wouldn’t say anything. It was kind of a stressful time because I left in the middle of May and so I was do-ing all this stuff up until I left and it was finals week when I had to scan in and fax baby pictures and film myself in the theater building because that’s my major and we all said our majors on the show. It was a stressful time because it was very time consuming and they didn’t give you a break...But It was worth it.FORMO: So how long did you last there?ANDIE: I was there for a week and I made the first episode.FORMO: .Any tips to any girls out there that might want to be on the show, etc. etc?ANDIE: Yeah! The website for Americas Next Top Model is cwtv.com. They do castings for every sea-son for anyone to audition for, so if you look on that website..keep checking, they have casting people who go all over the united states. They have open castings in malls. So I just say keep trying. But you do have to be 5’7 or taller, but its an open call to anybody.FORMO: So what’s next for you?ANDIE: Well now I’m back in school, this was filmed

over the summer. Right now I’m a junior at Texas State, I’m an acting major, and I’m going to finish my degree a BFA in Acting. After that, I plan on moving to Los Angeles. Also since I recently got signed I’m hoping to do fashion shows in New York and any print modeling anywhere else. FORMO: So what happened on the show?ANDIE: So I was in LA for a week, and had to get some things knocked out before we started filming. Eventually all 30 of us went to this house in Holly-wood and they mic’ed us up and said, you’re going to be on camera! So get back there, be excited, meet everybody... So we all went into backyard and it was this huge grand looking house with this ginormous backyard and it was a pool party and people every-where. In the back of the yard there was a pool with a runway over it. And I was like ‘oh my gosh we’re to have to do a runway walk!’At the end of my panel, tyra told me she wanted me to act and she gave me a scenario and I acted it out and it was so embarrassing! And she made me to do a Russian accent and it awful and Im so glad it didn’t air..it was interesting. When I got home and I checked my facebook, I saw that tons of friends and family had reposted the picture, and it was a really good feeling to know that people actually cared you know, and people wanted to help me out..so that was cool (andie smiles). So social media played a roll this season. On the last day, we went to the house the pool party was at and Tyra was there and we all stood around her as she announced the 13 girls that would get into the house and I unfortunately was not one of them. Buts its okay, because I made the top 30 out of the thousands and thousands of girls and it was a great experience to get to where I made it.FORMO: Anything you learned that you weren’t expecting to learn?ANDIE: I haven’t been modeling for very long, so when I did my panel, they made some comments about things to adjust. and I think it was a good experience for me, good feedback for me to learn what to fix because im still learning right now. Im far from the top. I’m still a beginning model. It was cool to learn technique of posing I guess you could say.FORMO: Any final thoughts you’d like to share?ANDIE: I’ve been denied a lot in casting calls, in modeling jobs, acting jobs.. and you literally do have to keep trying and someone eventually say yes and that’s going to be your foot in the door and your way. So I literally say, don’t give up.FORMO: That’s very inspirational.ANDIE: Thank you. (Andie smirked modestly)

GTV: How did you get started promoting live music shows? Slusher: In 2007 I started booking a venue on the coast, in 2008 the economy took its toll and they could not handle the added expense. So in 2009 we decided to host house concerts. As it grew in popularity, I decided to branch out of the house and into the community.

GTV: I heard you won the Best Local Promoter category in the SA Current for 2012. How do you feel about winning this award? Slusher: I was thrilled and honored to be awarded this title. Aside from house concerts I haven’t had too many other shows but I hope to live up to it.

GTV: Where did the name Riff House come from? Slusher: We wanted a name that was synonymous with music. We played with names and logos and decided on Riff using the double forte for the double ff in Riff.

GTV: Do you have any big festivals or concerts planned for this summer? Slusher: I hosted a SXSW event this year and we are continu-ing that idea for a summer festival. The Nekkid Armadilla Summer Fest will be held in Palacios, TX Labor Day weekend. Hosting 10 regional bands for a full day of music.

GTV: Do you prefer hosting events in San Antonio or Austin? Slusher: I prefer San Antonio. It’s my hometown and I think we, as music fans, should be able to see great music in our city.

GTV: Good answer. What in your opinion is the best way to introduce new people to your events? Slusher: I still feel that word of mouth is the best way to gain

new fans, having a good reputation for hosting quality shows is important. If someone sees a band or bands they like they will tell others and so on.

GTV: Besides being a music promoter, what other hobbies do you have? Slusher: I dabble in photography but if I am not promoting shows I am usually attending them.

GTV: Using one word how would you describe the San Antonio Music Scene? Slusher: Disheveled - there is much potential in the music commu-nity but I find most of it needs improvement. We could all be more unified and more cohesive as a community.

GTV: Any advice for the next generation of music promoters? Slusher: Be professional. This is a job and it should be treated as such. Have a high standard and hold others to that standard.

GTV: What are some favorite bands that you have worked with? Slusher: I love working with bands that have their act together. Little Brave, Mobley, The Canvas Waiting, The Rosedale Highs, Chris Taylor, Laura Marie, and Pop Pistol. Look out for Riff House concert events on FB, the SA current or the Express News. Their next house concert is scheduled for June 29th with K Phipps CD Release show.
