(Christ's Entry into Jerusalem by Hippolyte Flandrin c. 1842) As we lift our palms in praise and our voices in melodious song at Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, let us be jolted by the disharmony of the recitation of the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. This disparity, this discord, this dissonance is meant to jar us spiritually, emotionally, psychologically, and viscerally at the disharmony sin presents in our Christian lives – like a sour note or a misplayed key. Unbeknown to the crowds and even to many of His followers, Christ the King enters Jerusalem in order to give His regal life for ours, to mount the throne of the Cross, to be crowned king with thorns, to accept a scepter of nails, to be hailed with “Crucify Him,” to be robed in scourge-torn flesh, to anoint with His Precious Blood poured out as a cleansing libation, all surrounded by His subjects – sinners and thieves. Let us allow ourselves to confront our own rebellion against God’s Kingdom and our revolt against His Holy Covenant, not to be condemned, but to repent. So confronted, may we die to our old sinful selves on Good Friday and rise to new sanctified selves on Easter. With contrite hearts, may we respond with heart’s pierced for Love of the Father, the Son, and the Spirit. May we seek the true harmony of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty that exists in lives lived for Christ the King alone. St Mary, Mother of the Crucified King, pray for us. ~ Fr. Gries ST. (Christ's Entry into Jerusalem by Hippolyte Flandrin c. 1842)

As we lift our palms in praise and our voices in melodious song at Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, let us be jolted by the disharmony of the recitation of the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ.

~ Fr. Gries
