CB111The day to day construction of buildings,

highways, bridges and much of the world’s infrastructure relies on cement, and the reliability of the plants to produce this product continuously for world consumption. From limestone to clinker to cement, there is a never ending chain of shovels, trucks, crushers, conveyors, kilns, ball mills, and numerous other pieces of rotating equipment providing a high quality and long lasting material for today and tomorrow.

Inside these cement plants the equipment is subjected to heavy use, dirty environments, and in the case of the kiln, temperatures that can reach 1500°C. The rotational equipment of the cement plant utilizes both rolling element bearings and sleeve bearings as the application dictates. CM (Condition Monitoring) programs are put in place to monitor the vibration of the bearings throughout the plant, and improve the reliability of the overall process.

• 4-20 mA Process Monitoring using loop power sensors will provide operations with the overall vibration level of the machine so that it can be trended and alarmed using the in plant DCS, PLC, or SCADA systems.

• Dynamic Vibration Analysis using accelerometers will provide detailed information on the frequency and amplitude of vibrations generated by the machine.

• A combination of Dynamic Vibration Analysis and Process Monitoring will provide operations and the vibration analyst with the tools they need to maintain daily production quotas.

Process Monitoring will require permanently mounted loop power sensors like the LP202, LP204, LP252, or LP254 series that output a 4-20 mA signal proportional to velocity. A durable cable like CB111 (Yellow Jacketed Teflon®) or CB206 (Stainless Steel Armored Jacket) combined with the V2N (CB111 only), B2N, or A2N connectors over molded on the cables will provide reliable connectivity back to the PLC, DCS, or SCADA systems.

Dynamic Vibration Analysis can be in the form of portable or permanent measurements. In the case of portable vibration analysis, you will need a data collector, accelerometer, mounting magnet, and data collector cable with the break-away safety feature. If you are using on-line vibration monitoring, permanently mounted accelerometers like the AC102, AC104, AC192, or AC194 will provide dynamic vibration signals that can be analyzed to identify the fault frequency and amplitude of the fault or condition of the machine. A durable cable like CB111 (Yellow Jacketed Teflon®) or CB206 (Stainless Steel Armored Jacket) combined with the V2N (CB111 only), B2N, or A2N connectors over molded on the cables will provide reliable connectivity back to the on-line vibration monitoring system.

A combination of Dynamic Vibration Analysis and Process Monitoring will require accelerometers to measure the dynamic vibration, and a 4 wire transmitter (SC200 series) to convert the dynamic signal to 4-20 mA output for trending and alarming on the DCS, PLC or SCADA systems. In this application, if the control room notes a change in the amplitude of the vibration via the 4-20 mA signal, the analyst can use the dynamic output of the transmitter to identify the frequency fault and determine what is wrong with the machine.

The SC200 series can even accommodate dual output sensors. The TA131, TA102, TA104, TA184, TA133, and TA135 provide dynamic vibration and temperature inputs to the SC200 series. The SC200 series signal conditioner will then transmit the overall vibration and temperature as 4-20 mA signals to the DCS, PLC or SCADA systems. Combining vibration and temperature measurements in a single sensor, at one location, provides a permanent and reliable assessment of the overall condition of the machine.
