Treatment for End-Stage Kidney FailureKidney Transplant or Dialysis Therapy

HaemodialysisA dialysis machine filters the blood and then infuses it back into the body through a vein in the patient's arm.

Peritoneal dialysis(Water dialysis) A permanent tube is surgically inserted into the stomach to pump and drain 2 litres of special solution into the body.

There are 2 types of dialysis. 1 2

3X a week, 4-hours a session

Dialysis done at center or home

Treatment done at home everyday

Health assessment and consultation prior to traveling to Singapore

Recipient & Donor Arrival to Singapore (outpatient assessment)Clinical review and consultation with specialists.

Transplant Ethics Committee (TEC) meeting

Follow up by doctor in home country.

Ethics Committee Approval

Surgery

Hospitalization

Anaesthetist Consultation(one day before surgery)

Patient rests at hotel or apartment and goes back to hospital for follow-up treatment.

Estimated total journey for recipient:

From recipent & donor arrival in Singapore to Ethics Commitee Approval will take about 2 - 3 weeks.

7 days for decision making upon approval by TEC.

Recipient: Removal of stent 2 weeks after surgery. Return to home country thereafter.

Donor: Return home usually 10th day after surgery.

Recipient : Should undergo some preliminary investigation to determine whether you are medically suitable for the transplant.

Donor : Should also undergo investigation to determine thathe is medically suitable to be a kidney donor.
