“In My Father’s House” As most of you know, Sharon and I sold our home in Blandon and are living in our trailer at Sun Valley Campground while we wait for our new home to be built. The reason for this move at this stage of our lives is motivated by two factors. The first is simply a need for a little more elbow room. We truly loved our home in Blandon. It is a great house with a wonderful spirit about it. But we needed a little more open space. Every home we have ever lived in had space around it, and we really missed that. So our new home is on two acres of open land surrounded by open land. The second motivator is to prepare ourselves to “age in place.” Our plan is to remain in this house as long as it is humanly possible. The primary living space is all on one floor and accessible. So when we are older and less mobile we will still be able to navigate our way around our home unencumbered. Sharon and I will be married 40 years in December. This is our eighth move, We average a move every five years. Obviously some of the moves came in a short period of time. The longest we lived in one home was our 17 years in the parsonage at Amityville. Our desire is to beat that record at 10 Christman Road. Homes have special memories, don’t they? As you think about your homes, you remember all the good things about the houses that you loved and some things that were not as good. It is interesting that when Jesus talks about the afterlife he refers to it as a house with many rooms where all of God’s people will gather. I like the sound of that. Home was important to Jesus as it is important to us. As God’s children we were created to live in harmony in our homes and to enjoy the blessing of being a family, whatever form that may take. Part of that family experience is our place in another house, our beloved St. Paul’s on 5 West Arch Street. I hope you experience the love of family and the spirit of Christ in this house. It is a good place where God’s love abounds. I encourage you to invite your family, your friends, your neighbors and even the stranger to be part of this church family and to experience the wonderful home that we have when God’s love and grace are present in all that we do and say. “In My Father’s House”

As most of you know, Sharon and I sold our home in Blandon and are living in our trailer at Sun Valley Campground while we wait for our new home to be built. The reason for this move at this stage of our lives is motivated by two factors. The first is simply a need for a little more elbow room. We truly loved our home in Blandon. September Spotlight Jill Haley is half of St. Paul’s new dynamic duo of music ministry, the other half is Greta Ertel. We are doubly blessed to have both of these gifted musicians; Greta on the organ and piano, and Jilldirect and re-energize all of our choirs and instrumental groups. Jill grew up in Western New York State where her father was a Methodist minister. She and her family moved three times while he served three different churches while she was growing up.got her degree in music from Temple University. Jill married David Cullen twenty nine years ago. David is a guitarist who plays locally and teaches at several colleges. He also shares in leading the music ministry at Pennside Presbyterian in Mt. Penn. Jill and David have three children: Their oldest daughter, Dana, who is pursuing a Master’s degree in music at Rice University in Houston, a son, Graham, who is working on a bachelor’s degree in Cello performance at Indiana University, (Bloomington, Indiana) and his twin sister, Risa, who’s going for her bachelor’s degree in music education at Temple Univ., Philadelphia. Those apples have not fallen far from their musical family tree! In addition to being St. Paul’s new Director, Jill composes, performs and records music inspired by our national parks. She said “I was fortunate to have been invited to be an artist in Residence at two National Parks: Mesa Verde and the Badlands. Music is such an important part of the worship service at St. Paul’s UCC! I am looking forward to starting off the fall season with some new choirs as well as continuing with the adult choir. We welcome new members- no musical experience is necessary! The adult choir will resume rehearsals on Wednesday, September 2 at 7 pm. The newly formed chime choir will begin rehearsals also on Wednesday, September 2 at 6:15 pm. We already have a few adults who have expressed an interest in joining this choir and I hope that we have some more people join. The most common concern I hear expressed from congregation members is that they don’t read music- that is OK!! I will be teaching everyone how to do this. The other newly formed choir will be the children’s choir for ages Kindergarten-6 th grade. This choir will meet at 8:30 on Sunday mornings BEFORE Sunday School. This choir will sing once a month in church during the family worship service. The rehearsals for this choir will begin on Sunday, September 13 at 8:30 am in the choir room. Synopsis of A Place at the Table

Susan Rebecca White

“Spanning over sixty years and along the East Coast, A Place at the Table follows Alice Stone, an African-American chef who flees North Carolina in the 1930s; Bobby Banks, a Southern Baptist preacher’s gay son who moves to New York City just before the AIDS epidemic begins; and Amelia Brighton, a newly-single Connecticut mother of two who yearns to rediscover herself after a painful separation. While their backgrounds vary, each character becomes inextricably linked to Café Andres, a hole-in-theManhattan restaurant made famous by Alice’s cooking and its clientele. As Alice, Bobby, and Amelia persevere through personal struggles, broken hearts, and secrets, they ultimately discover the power food—and love—possesses to bring people together both within and beyond the kitchen. –(from the publisher –Schuster)"
