SZX12/SZX9 zoom microscope bodies specifications

SZX12 From 0.7× - 9×, the SZX12 offers azoom ratio of 1:12.86 — currentlyunmatched. Equally impressive is the31.43mm field diameter, achieved with a1× objective. The zoom body has anintegrated aperture diaphragm whichallows increased depth of focus controlfor high magnification, helping the SZX12to deliver an outstanding performance forimage observation and recording.

SZX9 With a magnification from 0.63× to5.7×, the SZX9's zoom ratio of 1 : 9.05puts it at the top of its class andcomplements the 34.92mm maximumfield diameter, achieved with a 1×objective. This lens establishes a longworking distance and contributes toconsistently excellent operation. Anoptional aperture diaphragm unit (SZX-AS) can be attached.

Coarse and fine focusing unit / SZX-FOFThe coaxial coarse/fine focusing knoballows quick, easy focusing. The controlknob resistance can be fine-tuned (a toolis supplied) and locked in to preventfocus drift during observation. A counterbalance is installed, ensuring smoothoperation even when multiplephotomicrography units and videocameras are attached.

The SZX12 — offering the largestzoom ratio of 1 : 12.86* and continu-ous magnification change of 41×.The SZX12 is equipped with Olympus'original parfocal objectives. When usedwith the two-position revolving nosepieceSZX-2RE, the combined magnificationrange of 3.5 × - 144× makesobservation from large field overview tohigh resolution detail extremely efficient(using the10× eyepiece, DFPLFL0.5×PFand DFPLFL1.6×PF). Auxiliary objective / SZX-AL20×This is a 2.5× lens for attachment to theDFPLAPO1×PF primary objective. Thelong working distance facilitatesobservation of specimen such as eggcells. The Olympus cap system allowsdetailed study and analysis of specimenin up to 2mm of fluid as well asobservation of specimen without coverglass. A versatile lighting systems to meetdifferent observation requirements.Offering consistently bright, stable andeffective illumination, the SZX systemfeatures three different types of stands —all with 6V 30W light sources built in, andall sealed to accept moist as well as dryspecimen. Other components which canbe attached include a warm plate, a largeglass plate, manipulators and cold lightsources, ensuring complete suitability forobservations and experiments using livecells or egg cells. Reflected lightrequirements are met by such variedillumination devices as a coaxialilluminator, a dual flexible light guide anda ring light. These options allow users toundertake different kinds of stereomicroscopic observations on widelyvarying specimen types.

Large stage plate / SZX-CLThis component allows a 200 × 200mmglass plate to be attached to thetransmitted illuminator. With the platecovering almost the entire surface of thestand, it is easy to clean and sterilize thestage. By adding stand-offs one can liftthe glass plate by 22mm, and make itpossible to insert a panel illuminator, orsheets of background paper, to obtaindifferent lighting effects. The use of astage plate also effectively prevents thelight source from warming the specimen.

Warm plate / MATS-55SZX(available from March 1998)This 200 × 200mm warm plate hastransparent heating elements built in.The temperature of the plate can be setfrom room temperature to 50 C゚. Thetemperature reaches virtually the entiresurface, so several specimens can bewarmed simultaneously.

Built-in magnification display withintegral click-stop.The zoom control on the right side of themicroscope body clearly displays thecurrent magnification setting (for use withthe combination of the 1× objective and10× eyepiece ). A click-stop mechanismrepeatably gives the magnification soughtand may be overridden for anyintermediate setting. An exclusivemagnification display ring identifies themagnification even when objectives otherthan a 1× are being used.

When the trinocular head and beam-splitter are combined, a total of 3photomicrography units or videocameras can be attachedsimultaneously.The SZX Series also features a range ofadapters to accommodate variousimaging devices, including digitalcameras for easy image filing, slidemaking and transmission via personalcomputer.

Beam splitter / SZX-BSThis adapter allows a 35mm SLRcamera, a video camera and anotherphotomicrography unit to be attached onboth sides of the zoom body. The opticalpath is switchable in three stages: 100%observation, 100% photo/video, or 50%observation and 50% photo/video.

30 degree trinocular head / SZX-TR30This component accepts aphotomicrography unit or video camerawithout the use of an intermediate tube.The user can maintain a natural postureduring observation without adjusting theeyepoint.

Automatic Photomicrography system /PM30With the PM30, photomicrography is simple— requiring nothing more than a touch onthe shutter release — because thesystem's integrated super FL auto modeallows fully automatic exposure offluorescent photos for consistently excellentresults. Normal auto mode should beselected for automatic shooting of non-fluorescent specimen images. High-level transmitted light illuminator / SZX-ILLBWith its variable magnification range (from 1× to highmagnification), this unit provides clear, effective illumination.Light intensity and color temperature are adjusted by means ofa built-in bank of three filters. Used with a high magnificationobjective such as the SZX-AL20×, it permits observation ofextremely small detail of highly contrasted structures with theaid of its unique slit aperture oblique illumination — anadvantage which cannot be matched by conventional stereomicroscopes. This illumination technique is particularly effectivefor observation of oocytes, embryos and many other biologicalstructures.

Transmitted light illuminator / SZX-ILLKUsing oblique illumination to provide contrast enhanced imagesof transparent specimen, this transmitted light illuminator has abuilt-in 6V 30W halogen lamp and is particularly suitable for usewith 1× objectives.

Brightfield / darkfield transmitted light illuminator / SZX-ILLDThe new design of the optical illumination path producesintense, evenly distributed illumination.
