Top Story - The Robert Morris University football team returns home for its non-conference finale this Saturday, Nov. 7, as it meets a first-time foe by hosting East Tennessee State at Noon at Joe Walton Stadium. RMU was deadlocked at the half last week at Central Connecticut State, but the Colonials ran out of steam and fell on the road. The Buccaneers are coming off a 42-9 victory over Warner a week ago. Robert Morris will be the second Northeast Conference school that East Tennessee State has faced this season as the Bucs hosted Saint Francis to begin October. Wide receiver Kyle Buss earned a weekly NEC honor this week, giving Robert Morris a league-leading nine weekly awards this season. Perhaps more impressively, Robert Morris has tied a school record, which had not been achieved since 1997, in having seven distinct student- athletes honored with weekly accolades in a year. Entering the final month of the season, the Colonials rank among the top 30 nationally in both rushing and passing defense. RMU will make the short jaunt east to play Saint Francis next Saturday in what will be the Colonials’ road finale. Quick Stat of the Afternoon - Redshirt freshman Kyle Buss earned weekly recognition from multiple sources this week. He was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week and was also tabbed Honorable Mention National Freshman Player of the Week by STATS. Buss caught eight passes for 160 yards last Saturday at Central Connecticut. The 160 receiving yards repre- sented a new RMU freshman record and ranks as the sixth-highest figure in single-game RMU history and the best such mark by a Colonial in over eight years. His 160 receiving yards are the highest single-game figure by a NEC non-senior this season and the most by any NEC rookie since at least 2007. With his performance Saturday, Buss tied the single-season freshman recep- tion record at RMU, as he now has 34 grabs on the campaign. Buss currently ranks third among FCS freshmen in receiving yards (523) this season. The RMU rookie record for a season is 624. Saturday's Opponent - Saturday’s game between Robert Morris and East Tennessee State marks the inaugural meeting between the two programs. Robert Morris owns a record of 20-15-1 (.569) when facing off with an opponent for the first time. East Tennessee State is one of four new programs on RMU’s schedule this year, the most new foes the Colonials have faced since their inaugural season. This is also the sixth consecutive season in which RMU has played at least one new opponent. Of RMU’s previous 36 games against a first-time opponent, 17 have come at home. In those games, RMU is 13-4 (.765), and it has won three straight such outings. On This Date (Nov. 7) in Robert Morris Football History - Robert Morris has played on two prior occasions on this date, and it came away a winner both times. Unlike this week, both of those affairs were non-conference contests played on the road. The first time RMU competed on this date came in 1998 at Saint Francis. The Red Flash struck first with a field goal, but their advan- tage would be short-lived. Tim Levcik (1998-2001) threw one touchdown in the first and another in the second quarter to stake the guests to a 14-3 lead at the break. The rookie quarter- back threw for three more scores in the second 30 minutes, finishing with a RMU rookie record five overall, to lead the Colonials to a comfortable 35-3 victory. Robert Morris dominated the contest, outgaining the Red Flash 414-185, as it also held a +2 margin in turnovers. Donald Dorsey (1998-99) ran for 100 yards on just 10 carries and also caught a 15-yard touchdown pass. John O’Connell (1995-98) posted two interceptions and a fumble recovery in his final NEC game. Head Coach John BanaszakSecond Season - Eastern Michigan ’75

John Banaszak became the second head football coach in Robert Morris University history in December 2013. He served as an assistant coach and assistant head coach for the Colonials for 11 consecutive years prior to taking over the top spot. Banaszak was selected as Coach-In-Waiting in January 2012, allowing for a simple transition following the 2013 campaign. At the end of the 2013 season, he was named as the Assistant Coach of the Year at the FCS level as selected by the American Football Coaches Association. He was one of five coaches selected for dedication to their teams and communities. He was the first RMU coach, as well as the first from the NEC, to claim this honor. The 2013 season was Banaszak's sixth and final as assistant head coach for Robert Morris. Among his

numerous duties with the program before becoming head coach, he was responsi-ble for tutoring the defensive line and the special teams unit. Under Banaszak's guidance in 2013, Robert Morris led the NEC in net punting, punt return defense and punt return average. Banaszak was also a key component in instructing a RMU defense that finished second in the NEC in total defense within league play in 2013. Robert Morris finished its regular season ranked among the top 25 nationally in at least seven defensive categories including total defense. With Banaszak's assistance, RMU has led the NEC in total defense four times in the past 11 years and ranked among the top four nine times in the past 12 seasons. Banaszak was a key component to a 2010 defense that led the NEC in total defense as the Colonials claimed the NEC's inaugural berth in the FCS Playoffs. In 2006, he helped tutor an RMU defense that led I-AA in total defense, allowing an average of just 228.36 yards per game. 10 of the 13 players in school history to earn All-NEC recognition on the defensive line have come under the tutelage of Banaszak, including Nolan Nearhoof (2009-12), who was named the 2012 NEC Defensive Player of the Year after breaking both the school and league records for career sacks. Nearhoof would go on to earn All-America honors, becoming the third Colonial defensive lineman to claim an All-America nod under Banaszak in a seven-year span. As much as Banaszak's presence has been felt on the defensive side of the ball, the same can be said on special teams. He helped five distinct Colonials win an award at return specialist within the span of one decade. A graduate of Eastern Michigan, Banaszak signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to the 1975 season and was one of only three rookies to make the defending Super Bowl champion team out of training camp. Primarily a special teams player on Pittsburgh's Super Bowl X championship team, Banaszak started five games the following season and then started at both right end and inside tackle in 1977 before suffering a knee injury that forced him to the injured reserve list. Between 1978 and 1980, Banaszak started 45 regular-season games at defensive end as the Steelers won back-to-back Super Bowls. In Super Bowl XIII, Banaszak recorded six tackles, including a pair of sacks, and a fumble recovery in a 35-31 win over the Dallas Cowboys, which garnered him Defensive Player of the Game honors. The following year, Banaszak helped the Steelers to a 31-19 victory over the Rams.

Robert Morris Quick FactsLast Time Out - Robert Morris stayed step for step with Central Connecticut State dur-ing the first half, but the Blue Devils pulled away late to post a 34-0 victory … After shutting out first-place Central Connecticut in the first half, the RMU defense did yield three scores in the second half, but only one of the scoring drives was longer than 40 yards … It was the fifth time in eight games this season that the Colonials have shut out an opponent for an entire half … Sophomore cornerback Drew Allen and redshirt junior cornerback Marcelis Branch each notched nine tackles … Junior Zach Cooper contrib-uted six tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, while making his first career start.

Just For Kicks - RMU has done well at covering its kickoffs thus far in 2015. Junior Connor Shennan has tallied 16 touchbacks on 27 attempts, the highest percentage in the NEC. However, even when his kicks have not resulted in touchbacks, RMU is holding its opponents to just 15.2 yards per return, tied for the second best mark in the FCS.

The Right Gear - Safety Andy Smigiera has demonstrated an ability to knock down the football this year, be it on special teams or defense. The junior ranks second in the league, and among the top 25 in the FCS, in passes defended (1.25 per game). He has notched a pass breakup or an interception in seven of eight games this season. Additionally, he has blocked two kicks while notching 41 total tackles on the year.

Don't Be Offensive - Through eight games, Robert Morris has scored five non-offensive touchdowns. It has scored twice via an interception and also from a kick return, a punt return and a blocked punt. The school record for non-offensive TD in a season is six. Interestingly, all five of its unique touchdowns this season have come in home games.

Stock Watch - Mike Stojkovic was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this year Oct. 5. He led RMU with 11 stops in its win at Wagner and had earned his first honor after helping limit nationally ranked Youngstown State Sept. 12, as he posted 11 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble against the Penguins. He has hit double digits in stops in five of eight games this season and totaled 6.5 TFL. Stojkovic is currently second in the league in tackles per game (8.5).

No Typical November - When Robert Morris takes the field Saturday, fans will be wit-nessing a relatively rare sight as the Colonials will play a regular-season, non-confer-ence game in November for just the 11th time in program history. Four of the 10 prior occasions came before RMU joined a conference in football. It will be the first such contest for the Colonials since 2003 and the first such tilt at home since 1998. RMU is 6-4 (.600) in November non-conference games in the regular season.

Dante's Peak - True freshman Dante Satcher claimed Special Teams Player of the Week honors from the NEC Oct. 12 after returning a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown against Sacred Heart. It was the fourth kickoff return for a touchdown in program history, but it was the longest one of the quartet. It also stands as the second-longest touchdown of any type in RMU history and the longest since 1996. With his award, RMU became the first school in league history to win the special teams honor in four straight releases.

Break It Up - The median completion percentage across the FCS in 2014 was 57.6%. Robert Morris has allowed only three of its past 26 opponents to reach that mark. In fact, eight times in this stretch, the Colonials have held their opponent under a 45% rate. In each of the past two seasons, RMU had a stretch where it held its opponent under a 50% completion mark in three straight games.

Sack Master - Redshirt junior Austin Trgovcich had a monster game Oct. 10 as he notched career highs in tackles (12), tackles for loss (3.5) and sacks (2.5). Trgovcich leads the league in tackles per game among defensive linemen (6.4) and is first overall in the NEC in sacks per game (0.71). He missed last week's contest due to an injury.

Start Me Up - Nick Faraci enters Saturday's game with the most consecutive starting assignments of all active Colonials as he has served as the center for 41 straight games. On defense, Marcelis Branch has the most total starts among active Colonials with 28, but Andy Smigiera and Mike Stojkovic are tied for the longest active streak (19).

Game #8 • Central Connecticut State 34, Robert Morris 0October 31, 2015 • New Britain, Conn.

Arute Field (Attendance: 2,117) - Robert Morris stayed step for step with Central Connecticut State during the first half, but the Blue Devils pulled away late to post a 34-0 victory in NEC action. After shutting out first-place CCSU in the first half, the RMU defense did yield three scores in the second half, but only one of the scoring drives was longer than 40 yards. RMU received the opening kickoff, picked up two first downs and pushed into Blue Devil territory. However, a pass was controversially ruled an interception when the defender and receiver appeared to each have some level of possession. CCSU drove into the red zone after the takeaway, but a third down rush was stopped short to force a field goal attempt that was missed. After a punt, CCSU reached the red zone with a 31-yard drive, but RMU again kept it from scoring by forcing a second failed field goal. RMU then moved the ball 70 yards on 11 plays, spanning the quar-ter break, but an interception on third-and-goal ended the chance. The teams combined for just one yard on the game's next four drives with three ending in punts and one concluding with a fumble. CCSU then drove into the red zone with time ticking down in the first half, but RMU refused to give in. It stopped CCSU in a goal-to-go situation, twice stuffing rushes inside the 5-yard line. The game reached halftime before the Blue Devils could run a fourth down play. Each team went three-and-out to begin the second half, but Robert Morris, who had its starting punter injured last week, had its punt blocked. The Blue Devils picked up the loose pigskin and returned it to the end zone for the game's first score. Robert Morris picked up a first down before punting on its next drive. Junior Andy Smigiera then intercepted the Blue Devils at his own 1-yard line on a deep pass down the middle of the field. The Colonials were unable to move the ball away from their own end zone, creating a tough punting situation. As a result, CCSU started its next drive at the RMU 31-yard line. The hosts took advantage with a seven-play scoring drive that ended with a quarterback keeper. RMU drove 47 yards on its next drive, moving well into Blue Devil territory, but the hosts snagged an interception to end the chance. Robert Morris looked to have stopped CCSU near midfield on the ensuing drive, but a personal foul was called on fourth down. That penalty moved CCSU into RMU territory, and the hosts took advantage of their second chance by capping the drive with an 11-yard rush. CCSU tacked on two more scores in the last eight minutes.

Last RMU GameTkach Attack - Redshirt senior linebacker Jake Tkach has come on strong in recent weeks. After posting a team-leading 84 tackles a year ago, Tkach seems to have reached a new level in October. The veteran tallied 48 tackles in four games last month, including a career-high 16 Oct. 10. He has now hit double figures in stops in three of the past four games and five times overall in his career. As a result, Tkach has leapt ahead of his teammate and now ranks first in the league in tackles per game (8.9).

Protect This Backfield - The RMU offensive line did not allow a single sack Sept. 26 at No. 6 South Dakota State. It marked the first non-conference game in which RMU did not allow a sack since its 2006 season opener and was the first time ever RMU did not yield a sack when facing a ranked team.

Behind Enemy Lines - Robert Morris tallied 8.0 sacks Oct. 3 at Wagner, the most by a Colonial team in nine years and a single-game school record against a Division I foe. In its other seven games this year, the Seahawks have allowed only 17 total sacks. That effort helped RMU hold Wagner to 170 yards of total offense, the Seahawks' lowest such output in their past nine games against FCS foes. It marked the first time RMU held an opponent to a single-digit point total on the road since September 2010, also at Wagner.

Long Rush Trio - In its two road games Sept. 26 and Oct. 3, the Robert Morris offense produced three rushes of at least 50 yards. That equaled the number of 50+ yard rushes that RMU combined for in the five seasons from 2010-14. The three lengthy runs came from the feet of three Colonials with Mathew Barr, Cole Blake and Dante Satcher each contributing one. In fact, this is only the second season ever, and the first since 1996, in which three distinct Colonials have each posted a rush of 50+ yards.

Knock It Down - Through the first eight games of the 2015 season, the RMU defense has tallied 36 pass breakups, notching at least four in seven games. That puts the Colonials on pace to break the single-season school record of 49 pass breakups. 11 different Colonials have contributed to this mark with junior Andy Smigiera and sophomore Drew Allen leading the way with eight.

Next Man Up - Starting for an injured teammate, Gerald Ferguson made the most of his chance Oct. 24 against Duquesne. He contributed a game-high 15 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and two pass breakups. His effort helped keep the Dukes to one total touchdown and a then season-low 167 passing yards.

Initial Impressions - A number of RMU players have accrued a ‘first’ in 2015. 11 Colonials have made their first collegiate start through eight games. Eight of those 11 are part of a group of 17 Colonials that have made their collegiate deubt in 2015. A total of 27 Colonials made their first career start a year ago while 35 Colonials made their collegiate debut in 2014.

D-Fence - The Robert Morris defense limited two-time defending champion Sacred Heart Oct. 10. RMU, which allowed only one scoring drive over 45 yards, kept the Pioneers under 300 yards of offense, which has happened only twice in SHU’s past 24 games. The Colonials also held SHU to a season-low 1.6 yards per carry and 70 overall rushing yards. That is the Pioneers’ second-lowest rushing total in their past 35 games.

Seeing Red - Robert Morris finished the 2013 campaign ranked among the top 25 in the FCS in red zone defense, allowing opponents to convert at a .735 clip. After a one-year hiatus, the Colonials have improved that mark thus far this season. RMU’s foes are converting on their red zone chances at just a .697 clip, ranking the Colonials 23rd nationally. In fact, Robert Morris has allowed a touchdown only 42.4% (14-of-33) of the time when its opponent has reached the red zone. The Colonials have not posted a better such mark since 2006.

NEC Champions since 1996

Special Special Teams - Warren Robinson was named the NEC’s Special Teams Player of the Week Sept. 21. The rookie returned three punts for 89 yards Sept. 19, including a 66-yard return for a touchdown. It marked only the fourth punt return for a TD in RMU history, but it was the first ever by a freshman. In fact, he is the only true freshman among the 123 FCS programs to return a (non-blocked) punt for a touchdown in 2015. Robinson’s 66-yard scamper was the second longest punt return in RMU history. He leads the NEC and ranks among the top 10 in the FCS in punt return average (14.9).

Long And Short of It - The Robert Morris defense has refused to let opponents drive the length of the field for scores in recent weeks. The Colonials have allowed only two scor-ing drive over 50 yards in their past four games. 12 of the last 14 drives RMU has yielded that produced points have been under 50 yards.

Making the Grade - Current redshirt senior offensive lineman Nick Faraci and recently graduated wide receiver Duane Mitchell were both named Capital One Academic All-District First Team last November. It was the second straight year Faraci earned this honor and the first such award for Mitchell, as they continued the trend of academic successes in the football program. These two accolades gave the Colonial program at least one Academic All-District honoree in each of the past 12 seasons, a span in which Robert Morris has taken home 23 overall selections. To put that in perspective, no other NEC school has an active streak of football Academic All-District selections lon-ger than three years. Mitchell, a finance major, became the first RMU wide receiver to ever claim this honor.

Not Halfway Home – Entering the 2015 season, the team trailing at the half had won only 13.5% of games all-time in Robert Morris history. However, the team losing at the break in RMU’s games this season has a remarkable 5-2 record.

Times Two - One of the mainstays that returned to the RMU defense in 2015 is redshirt senior Forrest Mason. Mason earned his second straight All-NEC honor in 2014, making him just one of five Colonials ever to claim multiple all-league honors as a defensive lineman. What made that accolade even more impressive is that the league’s coaches voted him to the team despite the fact that he was only able to appear in seven games. Mason is third in the NEC in tackles per game among defensive linemen (5.4) and leads the team with 8.5 TFL. He returned his first career interception for a TD Sept. 19.

They'll Be Back - One interesting way to examine the state of the Colonial roster is to look at the number of players that started the season opener who will be finished with their careers after this season. Of RMU’s 22 offensive and defensive starters from its opener, only five Colonials—two on offense, three on defense—will have used all of their NCAA eligibility when the 2015 campaign is completed.

For Starters - When Robert Morris took the field in its 2014 season finale at Duquesne, it sported its 11th distinct offensive starting lineup in the 11th and final game. RMU had sported different lineups on offense in 21 consecutive games before it had a repeat in its starters last week. 23 distinct Colonials started on offense in the 2014 season. Through eight games in 2015, 19 Colonials have started on offense.

Wrap Him Up – One game after Jake Tkach posted a career-best 16 tackles, Gerald Ferguson tallied 15 against Duquesne Oct. 24. It marked the first time since 2009 that multiple Colonials contributed 15+ tackle efforts in one season. It was the first time since 2007 that two Colonials achieved the feat in back-to-back games within a season.

The Nurse Will See You - RMU's starting center, redshirt senior Nick Faraci, became the fifth Colonial in school history, and the first on the offensive side of the ball, to earn a prestigious Academic All-America award this past December. However, that may not even be his most impressive feat. Faraci graduated from RMU in May with the highest grade point average in his nursing class. He subsequently passed his nursing board exams in the summer to earn his registered nurse (RN) license. Faraci, who owns a 3.94 cumulative GPA, worked in four area hospitals as part of his clinical rotations over the past few years.

No Passing Zone - The Robert Morris defense did well in keeping opposing offenses from mov-ing the ball through the air near the end zone last year. The Colonials grabbed eight intercep-tions in 2014 within 20 yards of the end zone they were defending. RMU has tallied five such picks in the first eight games of 2015, giving it 13 grabs inside its own 20 in its past 19 games. Seven Colonials have contributed to that mark with Andy Smigiera leading the way with five.

The Third Phase - Connor Shennan is the only two-time winner of the Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week accolade in 2015. The junior was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals Oct. 3 at Wagner, including connecting on the game-winner in the final minute. He is one of three NEC athletes to hit three field goals in a game in 2015 and became the fifth Colonial to achieve that feat. Shennan had reset his career-long with a 46-yarder the week prior while drilling two of his three kickoffs for touchbacks. Shennan took over punting duties last week, due to an injury to a teammate, and averaged 41.0 yards on his five punt attempts.

Back-to-Back - Sophomore strong safety Ryan Richards Jr. was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week in the first release of the season. It marked the second straight weekly release in which he was honored, as he claimed rookie accolades to close 2014. Richards grabbed a pair of interceptions in the season opener, his fourth career start, while adding six tackles and a pass breakup. Richards is tied for the league lead with three interceptions in 2015, and owns four in his career, and has tallied 45 tackles and three pass breakups.

Ground Game - Robert Morris posted a sizeable advantage in rushing yards Sept. 26 at No. 6 South Dakota State (228-125). This was due in large part to the Colonials averaging 6.0 yards per carry compared to 3.5 for the Jackrabbits. It marked the 14th time in program history, but just the fourth since 2000, in which a Colonial team averaged at least 6.0 yards per carry. That effort helped RMU rush for 200+ yards in back-to-back games for the first time since 2010.

Meet Mr. Smith - Kimani Smith became the third distinct Colonial in four weeks to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors from the NEC Sept. 28. He posted eight tackles, six of which were solo, along with a tackle for loss, an interception and two pass breakups against No. 6 South Dakota State, helping him earn the second weekly accolade of his career. Smith is tied for third on RMU in tackles (46) and third in tackles for loss (7.5) despite missing the last two games due to injury. He ranks among the top 10 in the NEC in both of those categories.

Robert Morris in the 2015 NEC StatsThe Founding Father - The one constant in the first two decades of Colonial football was former head coach Joe Walton. Walton, the former NFL tight end and head coach of the New York Jets, started the program from scratch, com-pleting everything from hiring assistants to purchasing equipment. He was named NEC Coach of the Year four times in 18 seasons and guided RMU to a pair of NCAA I-AA mid-major national crowns during his time on the side-lines. Walton, currently a special assistant to the athletic director at Robert Morris, was inducted into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame in November 2013.

Get To The Chopper - A quick glance at RMU’s record when broken down proves how important it is the Colonials get off to a good start in contests. When Robert Morris is leading at halftime, the program owns an all-time record of 89-16 (.848). When trailing at the break, Robert Morris owns a mark of 15-82-1 (.158). Even going into halftime tied is beneficial, as the Colonials own an overall record of 14-10 (.583) in such games.

The Magic Mark - Since the Colonials began play in 1994, there have been 77 games in which Robert Morris has scored 30 or more points. In those contests RMU boasts a record of 72-5 (.935), including a record of 43-5 (.896) in games in which the team scores between 30 and 39 points. In games in which the Colonials score 40 or more points, RMU is a perfect 29-0.

RMU Football Historical Tidbits - The inaugural running back at Robert Morris, the late Tim Hall (1994-95), rushed for 2,908 yards in his two seasons as a Colonial. Hall still owns the FCS season and career records for yards per carry, with his season record of 8.7 yards per carry set in 1994 and his two-year career record of 7.4 established in 1994 and 1995 ... Hall also ranks fourth all-time in the FCS in both rushing yards per game (153.1) and all-purpose yards per game (194.8) ... Former Colonial linebacker James Noel (2002-05) ranks sixth in the FCS record book for career tackles per game (10.7), while his career tackle total of 437 takedowns ranks 15th all-time ... Former linebacker and assistant coach Alex DiMichele (2008-10) averaged 10 tackles per game over his three years in a Robert Morris uniform, which ranks 13th all-time in the FCS record book ... Robert Morris has topped the nation in passing defense twice in the past 16 years, based on passing effi-ciency defense rating. The Colonials topped the charts in 1999 (with a 80.80 rating) as well as in 2006 (with a 88.70 rating).

Did You Know? - Robert Morris owns the all-time FCS record for the most consecutive quarters while holding an opponent scoreless. During the 1996 season, the Colonials went 15 straight quarters without allowing a single point. In fact, the record-setting streak occurred at the beginning of the sea-son. RMU posted three straight shutouts -- 20-0 against Mercyhurst (9/7), 38-0 against Butler (9/14) and 7-0 against Towson State (9/21) -- to open the campaign and then held Central Connecticut State (9/28) scoreless for the first three quarters before finally allowing a point for the first time all sea-son. In all, Robert Morris went 234:04 before allowing a point in 1996. RMU went 9-2 (.818) in 1996, claiming a share of the NEC championship, and con-ceded just 12.9 points per game.

The Last Time a Colonial ... Rushed for 200 or more yards in a game: Myles Russ, 246 (10/11/08 vs. Duquesne - span of 79 games) ... Passed for 300 or more yards in a game: Paul Jones, 321 (9/28/13 @ VMI - span of 26 games) ... Passed for 400 or more yards in a game: Rich Demaio, 444 (11/15/03 @ Duquesne - span of 127 games) ... Scored three or more touchdowns in a game: Duane Mitchell, 3 (11/2/13 vs. Bryant - span of 22 games) ... Robert Morris CaptainsHead coach John Banaszak announced after the team's final scrimmage that four Colonials will serve as captains in the 2015 season.

OFFENSERedshirt senior Nick Faraci and senior Max Robertson are the team’s captains on offense. Faraci has started each of RMU’s past 41 games at center and was selected as an Academic All-American in 2014. Robertson started 31 games at left guard over the past three seasons, but he was shifted down a spot to left tackle prior to the 2015 season.

DEFENSERedshirt seniors Forrest Mason and Mike Stojkovic are the team’s captains on defense. Mason is a two-time All-Northeast Conference honoree and is one of just five defensive lineman in RMU history to earn multiple all-league honors. He owns 130 tackles and 13.5 sacks in his career. He became the first Colonial defensive lineman to be named NEC Defensive Player of the Week in over 15 years last October. Stojkovic, who served as a captain in the latter half of the 2014 season, was ranked among the top five in the league in tackles per game last year and totaled 82 stops. He owns 168 tackles and 18.0 tackles for loss in a Colonial uniform. The Texas native began his col-legiate career at FBS institution North Texas.

Gameday Colonial football games are heard live on ESPN Radio AM-970 Pittsburgh, the flagship station of Robert Morris University athletics. ESPN 970 and RMU reached a three-year agreement in the summer of 2013 to broadcast foot-ball, men’s basketball and men’s hockey games. The Voice of the Colonials, Chris Shovlin, and color analyst Brian Cleary call the football action. RMU Assistant Media Relations Director Spencer Kowitz joins Shovlin as color analyst for select Colonial road games. "The John Banaszak Show" is on 30 minutes prior to kickoff. Games can also be heard on the station’s website, www.970espn.com, as well as on iHeartRadio. RMU home and league games can generally be seen live for free on NEC Front Row, the conference’s online digital network. The league has added multiple upgrades in recent years, including the ability to transmit live events in HD as well as providing the ability for the viewer to use a DVR-style, in-game real-time rewind feature. Robert Morris will also have at least four games that will air on ESPN3 in 2015: 9/12 @ Youngstown State, 9/26 @ South Dakota State, 10/10 vs. Sacred Heart and 10/31 @ Central Connecticut State.Weekly Segments Coach Banaszak sits down for a weekly chat with play-by-play voice Chris Shovlin most Mondays at the All Star Sports Bar & Grill in either Robinson or Canonsburg. Their discussion is aired live on ESPN 970 from 8-9 p.m. Coach Banaszak also has a weekly segment on TribLIVE Radio that generally can be heard on Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. A Colonial student-athlete is sometimes featured on ESPN 970 during a weekday afternoon.

Colonials in the NFLSince Robert Morris played its first season in 1994, three former Colonials have appeared in a game in the National Football League (NFL), the most among current NEC members in this span as of August 2015. Many players have “rewritten” record books at various schools. At Robert Morris, however, Tim Hall wrote the record book. Hall rushed for 2,908 yards on 393 carries in his two seasons in a Colonial uniform and was named an All-American by the Associated Press in 1995. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round (183rd player overall) in the 1996 NFL Draft. In 1997, he led the Raiders in yards per carry average with 5.2 and was second in rushing yards to Napolean Kaufman. On Sept. 30, 1998, Hall was shot and killed in Kansas City at age 24. Hank Fraley, who played on the offensive line for Robert Morris from 1996-1999, carved out a niche for himself in the NFL for over a decade. Fraley was a three-time Mid-Major All-American during his years at RMU before he was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to a free-agent contract in April 2000. Fraley was later claimed by the Eagles and started at center for Philadelphia for the entire 2001 season, helping the team to the 2002 NFC Championship game. For four straight seasons with Fraley starting at center from 2002-05, the Eagles appeared in the NFC Championship game. In 2005, Fraley became the first RMU alum to appear in the Super Bowl when he started at center against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. Former RMU defensive back Robb Butler played for the San Diego Chargers during the 2004 season and was featured in special teams situations, including returning kickoffs.
