Dr Michael DixonMichael has been a practicing GP in Devon for thirty five years. He was Chair of NHS Alliance for eighteen years (1998-2016) supporting and representing primary care and is a past President and Senior Advisor for NHS Clinical Commissioners, representing Clinical Commissioning Groups. Since 2010, he has been Chair of the Council of the College of Medicine, which is a multi-professional College supporting and celebrating innovative approaches to health and care. He is Visiting Professor at University College (London) and at Westminster University (London), Honorary Senior Fellow in Public Policy at HMSC Birmingham and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Peninsula Medical School. Michael is also National Clinical Champion for Social Prescribing for NHS England.

He is committed to family doctoring, primary care and supporting patients, citizens and communities to self-care and create health. He believes that NHS sustainability depends upon a greater role for primary care and de-medicalisation, wherever possible and appropriate.

Dr Catherine ZollmanCatherine is a GP, who works as lead doctor at Penny Brohn a multi-disciplinary charity which delivers integrated healthcare to people affected by cancer. She also works part time as NHS GP in Bristol and is a Macmillan GP facilitator for Cancer Services advising and working for the Bristol Clinical Commissioning Group. She is honorary clinical lecturer at the University of Bristol and regularly teaches medical postgraduates, undergraduates and the general public. In 2010 she completed a 2 year Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. Catherine led the steering group to devise the programme for the Food Conference.

Professor Margaret RaymanMargaret is Professor of Nutritional Medicine at the University of Surrey where she set up the highly-respected MSc Programme in Nutritional Medicine in 1998. Her research largely centres on the importance of micro-nutrients, notably selenium and iodine, to human health. She has published a number of highly cited papers on selenium and human health including reviews in The Lancet in 2000 and 2012. In 2013, she published a paper in The Lancet showing that iodine deficiency in pregnancy was associated with lower IQ and reading ability in the children. She has authored three books: an academic book “Nutrition and Arthritis” (Blackwell Publishing) in 2006 and two evidence-based cookbooks “Healthy eating: the prostate care cookbook” in 2009, and “Healthy eating to reduce the risk of dementia” in 2015.

Dr Phil HammondPhil is an NHS GP, campaigner, health writer, investigative journalist and broadcaster, speaker and comedian. He has done all these jobs imperfectly and part-time since 1987, and was also a lecturer in medical communication at the Universities of Birmingham and Bristol.

Dr Eleni TsiompanouEleni is Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Pembridge Palliative Care Centre, Central London Community Healthcare Trust is the founder of the Health-Being Institute (healthbeing.co.uk).

As part of Eleni’s Master’s Degree in Nutritional Medicine at the University of Surrey, her specialist thesis was on “Food as Medicine: from Hippocrates to Modern Times”. She has a Diploma in Ayurvedic Lifestyle and Nutrition.

Dr Andrew Weil Andrew the founder and Director of the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. He is an American physician, author, spokesperson, and broadly described “guru” for holistic health and integrative medicine, whose names also constitute an emerging brand of healthcare services and products in these fields in the US. He is also a founder and co-owner of the growing group of True Food Kitchen restaurants. Dr. Weil writes a monthly column for Prevention magazine and the popular Dr. Andrew Weil’s Self Healing monthly newsletter. A frequent lecturer and guest on talk shows, Dr. Weil is an internationally recognized expert on medicinal plants, alternative medicine, and the reform of medical education.

Dr Alex RichardsonAlex is Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Evidence-Based Intervention, University of Oxford; and Founder Director of the UK charity Food And Behaviour (FAB) Research. Dr Richardson is internationally known for her research into the role of nutrition (especially dietary fats) in brain development and function, and its implications for mood, behaviour and learning. Her work is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary, having generated more than 90 research publications to date in areas including genetics, neurophysiology, psychology and education – and covering both normal individual differences and developmental conditions such as dyslexia, ADHD, depression and schizophrenia. Her current research centres on the role of omega-3 fatty acids in child behaviour and learning, and includes controlled treatment trials as well as experimental studies

Dr Steve DevriesStephen Devries, M.D is a preventive cardiologist and Executive Director of the Gaples Institute for Integrative Cardiology, a non-profit with the goal of advancing the role of nutrition and lifestyle in medicine. He is also Associate Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago Dr. Devries received Cardiovascular specialty training at Washington University in St. Louis and later completed a Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona Dr. Devries wrote “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Cholesterol” and co- edited the book “Integrative Cardiology” in the Dr. Weil Library series. He was also selected to contribute a section on Integrative Cardiology for the major US cardiology textbook, “Heart Disease.” Dr. Devries and his work in integrative cardiology have been featured on National Public Radio and PBS.

Professor Tim SpectorTim is a Professor of Genetic Epidemiology and Director of the TwinsUK Registry at Kings College, London. He trained originally in rheumatology and epidemiology. In 1992 he moved into genetic epidemiology and founded the UK Twins Registry, of 13,000 twins, which is the richest collection of genotypic and phenotypic information worldwide. He is past President of the International Society of Twin Studies and directs the European Twin Registry Consortium (Discotwin) and collaborates with over 120 centres worldwide

Dale Pinnock Dale is the medicinal chef, is the pre-eminent voice in eating for good health. He has degrees in Human Nutrition and Herbal Medicine and a Masters in Nutritional Medicine, so he knows what foods really do your body good, and why. He has worked as a chef and knows the importance of using affordable, accessible ingredients to make it easy for everyone to unlock the full potential of the nutrients. He also collaborates regularly with GPs and other health professionals to teach people that good diet is instrumental in good health.

Professor Robert Thomas Robert is a Consultant Oncologist at the Primrose Oncology Unit, Bedford and Addenbrooke’s, Hospitals, a professor of Biological and Exercise Science at Coventry University and Senior Clinical Tutor Cambridge University. He is author of the book “Lifestyle after Cancer” and editor of the lifestyle and cancer website Cancernet.co.uk. He has an academic interest in the evaluation of nutritional, lifestyle and self help strategies after cancer. He has designed, conducted and published numerous UK RCT’s including the worlds largest evaluation of

a polyphenol rich nutritional supplement in men with prostate cancer (Pomi-T study). He was an author for the evidence review for the National Cancer Survivorship Initiative and designed the UK’s first government approved course and qualification in cancer rehabilitation. In 2007, he was awarded The British Oncology Association’s “Oncologist of the Year” and in 2014 the Royal College of Radiologist’s Frank Ellis medal.

Dr Sheldon Cooper Sheldon is a consultant gastroenterologist with an interest in intestinal failure and is the clinical nutrition lead at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS foundation Trust. Previously he led and subsequently transferred the Home Parenteral (HPN) services from the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. His Masters degree is in Nutritional Medicine from the University of Surrey and doctorate (MD) from the University of Birmingham investigating the causes of oesophageal adenocarcinoma. He has been active within the British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN) over the last 7 years, previously chairing the Education and Training committee during which time he led the development of the BAPEN Decision Trees, is currently chairing BAPEN Medical, sitting on BAPEN Council, and previously BAPEN Executive. Dr Cooper is also co-chairing a working group to define competencies for healthcare providers to join the UKs voluntary register for nutritionists held by the Association for Nutrition.

Dr Ali Khavandi Ali is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Foundation Trust. He specialises in complex angioplasty and advanced rhythm device implantation. He is also part of the Consultant team providing emergency treatments for the 24/7 regional heart attack service. Ali is editor of the UK Core Cardiology training textbook and is currently working on the pan-European second edition in collaboration with Oxford University Press. He is director and a founder of the surgical skills for cardiologist’s courses and simulator training lead within the British Cardiovascular Society.

Dr Marie PolleyMarie is a Senior Lecturer in Health Sciences and Research at the University of Westminster. Marie has a PhD in molecular carcinogenesis and started her research career as a biomedical scientist. Marie has played a central role in developing Measure Yourself Concerns and Wellbeing (MYCaW), an internationally used and brief outcome measure - in response to the need to have an outcome measure which captures all relevant information when patients are receiving holistic support and treatment. Marie has Chaired the British Society for Integrative Oncology for the past 3 years and is collaborating internationally with integrative medicine clinicians and healthcare professions to develop global guidelines for measuring patients outcomes in integrative oncology. Marie is PI on a project in using a social prescribing approach to supporting patients with pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. This has led to them forming the Social Prescribing Network to bring all stakeholders of social prescribing together to share learning and progress this field.

Ruth TuckerRuth is a Health Facilitator at College Surgery, Cullompton. Ruth worked for Mid Devon Leisure as a fitness professional for more than 18 years as a gym instructor, specifically in exercise referral, and was one of the original members of staff involved in the first Exercise Referral Schemes in the country which was an initiative between local surgeries and the local Council. She later trained in cardiac rehabilitation, where she was involved in Phase III and IV Cardiac Rehabilitation in the community and progressed to coordinating the Exercise Referral Scheme across all the Mid Devon leisure centres.

Joanna LewisJoanna is Strategy and Policy Director for Soil Association Food for Life, an award-winning national programme which is about making good food the easy choice for everyone, whoever and wherever they are. Joanna was a member of the Department of Health’s Hospital Food Standards Panel in 2014. In 2009 Joanna founded the Food for Life Catering Mark, a quality assurance scheme for caterers

committed to high standards of nutrition, freshness, welfare, sustainability and provenance that now certifies over 1.5 million meals a day. Food for Life’s work to transform the food culture in early years settings, schools, hospitals and care settings is delivered with our national partners the Royal Society for Public Health, Focus on Food, Garden Organic and the Health Education Trust, and funded chiefly via local authority public health commissions. In 2011 Food for Life was awarded the BBC Radio 4 Food & Farming Awards ‘Derek Cooper Award’ for the organisation doing most to change our relationship with food. Joanna’s previous roles have included Convener of Defra’s Sustainable Consumption Roundtable and Head of Policy for think tank Green Alliance.

Dr Steven CleasbySteven has been a GP in Calderdale since 1999, when he started at Spring Hall Group Practice. His specialist area is diabetes and also has a keen interest in obesity. As Assistant Clinical Chair at the CCG, he holds a number of lead roles, including being a member of the Audit Committee, clinical lead for Safeguarding, Cardiovascular Disease, and the 3rd sector. He is also Vice Chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board in Calderdale. Steven is keen to develop the prevention agenda alongside Public Health, as well as see innovation in primary care.

Helen CookeHelen has a nursing background and during the last 25 years has specialised in the field of integrative healthcare. Qualifications include: BSc in Nutritional Medicine (Thames Valley University)/MA in Complementary Health Studies (Exeter University). Helen worked at Penny Brohn Cancer Care as Director of Therapy (2000-5) and Head of Information and Research (2005-8). She was also National Lead of the College of Medicine’s Innovations Network (2012-15). As well as working as a freelance nutritional therapist, Helen is currently Kitchen on Prescription and Nutrition Lead for the Portland Centre for Integrative Medicine.

Patrick Holden CBE Patrick is founding director of the Sustainable Food Trust whose mission is to promote international cooperation between all those involved in sustainable food production. Previously he was director of the Soil Association. He studied biodynamic agriculture and started a community dairy farm in West Wales in 1973. It is now the longest established organic dairy farm in Wales, with a herd of 75 Ayrshire cows - the milk from which is made into an award winning cheddar-style cheese by his family. He received a CBE for services to organic farming in 2005. Other positions include Patron of the Biodynamic Agricultural Association.

Duncan Selbie Duncan took up post as Chief Executive Designate of Public Health England in July 2012 and as permanent Chief Executive on 1 April 2013. From 2007 to 2012 he was Chief Executive of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals, the regional teaching hospital for the south east of England. From 2003 to 2007 he was the Director General of Programmes and Performance for the NHS and subsequently the first Director General of Commissioning. Prior to this he was Chief Executive of South East London Strategic Health Authority and before that South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust. He joined the NHS on 1 January 1980.

Professor Annie S. Anderson Annie is Professor of Public Health Nutritionand Co-director of the Centre for Research into Cancer Prevention and Screening at the University of Dundee. Her research focuses on theory-based, behaviourally-focused interventions in both populations and individuals to reduce lifestyle-related cancers. Annie’s advisory work has included membership of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Taskforce on Cancer Prevention and she represented UICC on the WorldCancer Research Fund / American Institute of Cancer Research Review on Food, Nutrition and Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer. During 2013-14 she was a member of the IARC working group developing the update on the European Code Against Cancerand is currently working on the IARC monograph on Obesity and Cancer. She is a policy advisor to Bowel Cancer UK and

Professor Dame Sally DaviesDame Sally became Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for England and Chief Medical Advisor to the UK Government in March 2011. Dame Sally is independent advisor to the Government on medical matters, with particular responsibilities regarding Public Health. She provides professional leadership for Directors of Public Health. Sally was actively involved in NHS R&D from its establishment and founded the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). In March 2013, as CMO, Dame Sally published her 2011 annual report on infectious diseases. The report focused on and brought to light the increasing threat of antimicrobial resistance, calling for national and international action to address the key areas of stewardship, monitoring and surveillance and antibiotic development. Dame Sally has since been advocating globally on this topic: she has spoken on AMR at numerous events, including the WHA side event in May 2013, the G8 Science Ministers’ meeting in June 2013, the 2013 Global Health Security Initiative in Rome and a number of Chatham House conferences. She was chair of the 2013 AMR forum at the World Innovation Summit for Health in Qatar and is chair of the Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on AMR to the WHO. She has also raised public awareness of the issue through publication of a Penguin book and a TED talk.

Dr Clare Shaw Clare is Consultant Dietitian, Royal Marsden Hospital and member of the Food, the forgotten medicine steering group. Clare has worked with cancer patients for over 20 years and is passionate about the importance of nutrition during treatment and for those living with and beyond cancer. She has authored a number of research papers, articles and books including the Royal Marsden Cancer Cookbook which was published last year.
