Why are we concerned?Latinos comprise the nation’s hungriest demographic:More than 1 in 4 (26.9%) Latinos are food insecure. Latinos have the
highest rate of food insecure households with children. Hispanics are disproportionately affected by food-related health
disparities:One in three Hispanics are obese. Hispanic children are more likely to be
overweight/obese and more likely to die of diabetes.Hispanics access nutrition assistance at the lowest rates:Hispanic participation in SNAP is 10% lower than the national average
(56% compared to 66%). Among food bank participants, only 41% of Hispanic families participate
in SNAP, a rate significantly lower than black and white families.

1. USDA is committed to lowering food insecurity among Hispanics by providing access to adequate quantity and quality of food and nutrition.
2. USDA invites Latinos to have a seat at the decision-making table in the national discussion of food and nutrition issues affecting the Hispanic community.
3. USDA programs can provide the food and nutrition assistance Latinos need to set a full table for their families.
