PARTNERSHIPS SERVING FRESNO NEIGHBORHOODS

2015a n n u a l REPORT

Page 2: 2015 annual report - Every Neighborhood

Artie Padilla ENP Executive Director

In Fresno, ENP has found a unique role. Our mission to mobilize our churches and community to serve our neighborhoods and schools has found us engaged in many facets of our city.

• Saturday Sports Programs have been an ongoing example of a health joint use approach and have been providing green space for kids for 8 years, this past year in 33 neighborhoods. The city has adopted a plan to expand this concept in coordination with Fresno Unified and Central Unified to open green space at 14 sites.

• Volunteer support on the school campuses has allowed our partnerships to serve alongside other organizations in addressing 3rd grade literacy and graduation rates through the “Birth to Third Initiative” and “Grad Nation”.

• Parent engagement work sees us connected with the Citizenship Academy and Better Blackstone Initiative.

ENP doesn’t create all of these amazing initiatives, but adds capacity with our city-wide network of churches, businesses, residents, universities, hospitals and other stakeholders. These partnerships are made up of people from churches and organizations who are engrained daily and deeply in our neighborhoods.

As you read this annual report, you’ll see and learn about some amazing things happening in our partnership neighborhoods throughout the community. The fingerprints of our partnership volunteers cover this city and we intend to continue so the impact will be even greater in the years ahead.

We thank you for your generous support. We truly couldn’t build this network of impact without your partnership!!

“ENP (Saturday Sports) has changed our neighborhood! To see kids who really have no place to play, who can walk over to school for a few hours on a Saturday morning, not worry about gangs, not worry about ten people living in a two bedroom apartment. They can just be kids!”

Sherry Tharpe, Olmos Principal

Glenn is a mentor, counselor and friend to kids and families in the Lawless neighborhood. In spite of a busy schedule Glenn has made it a priority to be a consistent presence in their lives. “We want the kids to know they can count on us, no matter what.”. . . . .Mario is a young man who attends Saturday Sports at Lawless. He is thankful for Saturday Sports because it is helping him be a leader.. . . Ricardo said that before Saturday Sports he was doing bad stuff and didn’t even know how to play sports. He said, “Now I’m really good at football!”. . .Katherine a mom who attends Saturday Sports with her kids said that Glenn is always there for them in a positive way.

Thank YOU Glenn, and team for making an impact! Glenn Jones, Saturday Sports Leader from Northpointe Church

“The kids always find a way to inspire me and show little glimpses of God’s presence; each Saturday has taught me something new about ‘service’. What ENP’s Mission boils down to is

being a better neighbor.”Erica Castanon,

Fresno State student & Saturday Sports Volunteer at Ericson

Thank You, to the Saturday Sports Teams who are touching lives in 33 Fresno neighborhoods!

FAITHFUL FEET is an annual event in SE Fresno coordinated by

Clovis Hills and hosted by El Encino. These two churches are

a true presence in this neighborhood. Clovis Hills hosts

Saturday Sports at Sequoia Middle School and Vang Pao They are a

consistent presence on the Sequoia campus and in the

neighborhood. This ‘presence’ gives them the ability to see both needs and opportunities to come

alongside families and be a blessing and encouragement

throughout the year.814 children received new shoes and socks before the 2015 school year

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

2012: 55 parents 2013: 110 parents 2014: 300 parents 2015: 375 parents

Francisca is not only an exceptional person but a natural leader. Through her involvement with Every Parent at Olmos Elementary she has discovered her ability to make a difference in her community. Over the last year she has also taken initiative to invite new parents, encouraging them to get involved in their neighborhood.

“Being a part of Every Parent gives me the opportunity to be aware of what goes on at Olmos. I learn about my neighborhood and I learn from my neighbors. I want my children to see that I care about their learning through my involvement.”

Francisce Damaso, Olmos Parent

PARENT ENGAGEMENT . . . consists of engaging, equipping, and supporting parents in our partnership neighborhoods, encouraging them to utilize their unique cultural gifts and talents to bless and serve the school and community. ENP believes that within each neighborhood, residents hold the values & assets needed to create healthy, thriving communities. Working together creates a greater capacity to strengthen our city.

EQUIPPING the CHURCH to SERVE

ENP EXISTS TO SUPPORT

OUR CHURCHES &

VOLUNTEERS

ENP provides interactive training at the start of every semester for our partner churches while exploring ways to support and build up other churches and cast a vision of our city fully engaged.

Andrew Feil ENP Associate Director

WE BELIEVE:• in the power of the gospel• that the local church is the core of God’s mission• and people are the key to impacting our city

We exist to equip and support our churches and volunteers from our community

ENP has grown quickly and we realize it is vital for us to also grow in our ability to equip and train the church. This will increase the potential of each volunteer and the capacity of The Church in Fresno, while supporting our schools and neighborhoods.

In my role as Associate Director, I oversee ENP Equipping and Training, including 20/TWENTY Equipping events for our volunteers which take place twice a year. In 2016 we will be offering City Training/Tours, as well as our 9-part Bible study on the Mission of the Church in Fresno to those interested in learning more about loving and serving our city.

We will also continue to support and lead efforts like No Name Fellowship and Fresno City Summit which expand the capacity and vision of ‘The Church’ in Fresno.

I’m excited to be a part of ENP. As we continue to grow in our capacity and vision let us know how we can support & serve you.

Thank you for being a part of the exciting work going on in our community!

In August of 2008 when ENP was formed, a small group of people who strongly believed

in the value and importance of churches playing an active role in our local schools and

neighborhoods made a commitment to support ENP financially for the first 3 years.

This gave us the ability to focus on the task at hand of finding churches to partner with our

Fresno schools and neighborhoods.

We are thankful for the number of individuals and churches who began partnering with us in

2015 and for those who have been faithful partners since ENP was formed in 2008.

*You may notice the absence of grant funding in 2015. This was the main reason revenue goals were not reached. Though not opposed to grant funding, we have always been an organization

that preferred to be sustained by the community we serve.

For 2016, as we expand our budget, we foresee a healthy mix of community funding and grants to financially support the work of our partnerships in the neighborhoods of our city.

“In our city, there really isn’t another organization that is engaging with the community in such a real and tangible way. ENP tends to be the “go-to” resource to hear the voice of the community.”

“As a woman of faith, I don’t think there is anything more powerful than mobilizing the church to serve the community. We are uniquely poised to be able to offer grace, acceptance and love without judgement in a way that no other organization can.”
