ESC PROJECT 3

Peräpohjolan Opisto is a seasoned, independent folk highschool which was founded already in 1901. It is located in atraditional, scenic landscape of Tornio Kiviranta by the famousfree flowing Tornio River. Close proximity to the Swedishborder offers wide range of cultural opportunities to ourstudents. Peräpohjolan Opisto provides education, vocational trainingand additional training in the fields of education and guidancesector. Students  can study a profession, complete basiceducation or just individual courses.

THE HOST ORGANIZAT ION

We hope that our volunteers couldorganize activities and instruct ourstudents living in a dormitory. S/he could work with educationexport by building a network toher/his own home country. Our volunteers are welcome toparticipate in Finnish language andculture education. One of the volunteers will do co-operation with the youth office inthe town of Tornio and have sometasks with the local youth workersand young people.Of course we are also open fordiscussion to the volunteer's ownideas of her/his work!

Our personnel consists of 20people and 3 of them will beworking with the ESC volunteer.Currently we have approximately250 students, most of them areyoung adults. Peräpohjolan Opistoalso has a substance- and smoke-free student dormitory whichaccommodates up to 32 persons. Volunteers will be accommodatedat the student dormitory in 1-2persons per room. Meals areserved at school canteen sodifferent diets can be taken intoconsideration.
