CHAIRMAN’S CHAT
At the time I am writing this, which is, as usual, very late, our Edenvale
Digital Salon has closed. John tells me that there were 3415 entries
altogether, shared amongst the different categories. The number of entries
is pleasing and the club will benefit significantly from it. Our thanks goes to
John and his organising committee; Ted, Dave and Des for their hard work.
Although they make it look easy, a lot of work goes into organising a salon,
from organising judges, setting up the administration, getting the medals,
etc. Edenvale Photographic Club is very fortunate to have people who are
willing to work for the club which keeps it going successfully. Thanks to the
financial success of the salon the club will be in a position to buy a new laptop
to add to the new projector to produce the highest quality images for the
members.
I am also pleased to report that Dave Wolstencroft has offered his services
to assist with the website. We can now build on the work that has already
been done by Andrew Stephens to take the website to a higher level. The
design of the website allows it to be very interactive for the members so if
you haven’t seen it yet take a look. The address is
http://edenvalephotoclub.co.za.
Tonight we will be selecting the images for the PSSA interclub competition.
This is where all clubs in South Africa are invited to compete against each
other. There are 15 images from the 1 – 3 star workers and 15 images from
the senior workers. The selection committee will look at all of the images
submitted over the last year and choose the best 30. This is always a
challenge as it is impossible to know what the judges will prefer. Anyway, it
is good fun and it shows that Edenvale is a good solid club.
See you at the next meeting.
Colin

boarder to the image and make your adjustements. If you do not wish to add a boarder, go to
Step 2.
2. Select Image Size under the heading “Image” in Photoshop. Tick the following boxes: Scale
Styles, Constrain Proportions and Resample Image.
3. The maximum size of the image must not exceed 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high.
4. When resizing a horizontal image (Landscape) enter 1920 pixels in the Width Box and the
vertical size will be adjusted automatically if you have ticked the “Resample Image” box. If
the vertical size is 1080 pixels or less, the resizing is correct. If the vertical adjusts to a value
more than 1080 pixels (say 1096 pixels) then adjust the vertical size to 1080 pixels and the

6. The maximum image data file size is 1,500Kilobytes in the JPEG format. Note that if a border
is added to the image, this must be added before resizing and reducing the file size to a
maximum of 1,500 Kilobytes to ensure that the image remains within the specified 1,500Kb.
7. It is recommended that the image be displayed in the sRGB Colour Profile. This can be
selected in the camera or changed in Photoshop under Edit/Convert to Profile.

HUMOUR
Sniffer dog A man had just settled into his seat next to the window on the plane when another man sat down in the aisle seat and put his black Labrador Retriever in the middle seat next to the man.
The first man looked very quizzically at the dog and asked why the dog was allowed on the plane.
The second man explained that he was from the Police Drugs Enforcement Agency and that the dog
was a 'sniffing dog'.
'His name is Sniffer and he's the best there is. I'll show you once we get airborne, when I put him to
work.'
The plane took off, and once it has leveled out, the Policeman said, 'Watch this.'
He told Sniffer to 'search'.
Sniffer jumped down, walked along the aisle, and finally sat very purposefully next to a woman for
several seconds. Sniffer then returned to his seat and put one paw on the policeman's arm.
The Policeman said, 'Good boy', and he turned to the man and said, 'That woman is in possession of
marijuana, I'm making a note of her seat number and the authorities will apprehend her when we
land.
'Gee, that's pretty good,' replied the first man.
Once again, the Policeman sent Sniffer to search the aisles.
The Lab sniffed about, sat down beside a man for a few seconds, returned to its seat, and this time he
placed two paws on the agent's arm. The Policeman said, 'That man is carrying cocaine, so again, I'm making a note of his seat number
for the police.'
'I like it!' said his seat mate.
The Policeman then told Sniffer to 'search' again.
Sniffer walked up and down the aisles for a little while, sat down for a moment, and then came
racing back to the agent, jumped into the middle seat and proceeded to sh*t on the seat.
The first man was really disgusted by this behavior and couldn't figure out how or why a well-
trained dog would behave like that. So he asked the Policeman, 'What's going on?'
The Policeman nervously replied, 'He's just found a bomb.'"
