MATERIALSOddments of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in Grey 09 (A) and Hot Pink 68 (B) and oddments of Plum 67 (C).Pair each 4mm (US 6), 5mm (US 8) and 10mm (US 15) knitting needles.

ABBREVIATIONSbeg = beginning; cm = centimetres; k = knit;p = purl; st(s) = stitch(es); st st = stocking stitch.

NOTEThe flower can be made using any colours, the one shown was previously made in some shades that are no longer available, but we have tried to match them as closely as possible.

OUTER PETALS (make 3)With 10mm (US 15) needles and A, cast on 3 sts.P 1 row.Next row (right side) K1, [m1, k1] to end.Rep the last 2 rows once more. 9 sts.P 1 row.Next row K1, m1, k2, m1, k3, m1, k2, m1, k1. 13 sts.Work 3 rows in st st.Cast off.

INNER PETALS (make 1)With 5mm (US 8) needles and B, cast on 70 sts.1st row (wrong side) [K2tog] to end. 35 sts.2nd row P1, [p2tog] to end. 18 sts.K 1 row.Cast off.

FLOWER CENTREWith 4mm (US 6) needles and C, cast on 15 sts.Beg with a k row, work 6 rows in st st.Picot row [K2tog, yf] to last st, k1.Beg with a p row, work 6 rows in st st.Cast off.Join row-ends to form a tube, fold in half along the picot row and join the cast on to cast off row, pull up tight and secure with a few sts.

TO MAKE UPOverlap the 3 outer petals and secure in place. Allow inner petal to curl around itself into an overlapping circle and secure with a few sts. Stitch in place to centre of outer petals. Stitch flower centre in place.

This flower, together with another two, was originally used to decorate a moss stitch bag

in 9-5, one of Debbie’s books of knitting designs for children of those ages. It was also

used as a corsage on a pinafore dress from the same book. Both of these designs, the

bag and pinafore, are now available as single pattern leaflets with another 9 designs taken

from the same book.
